When good movies go bad
Some movies start off great but the sequels get progressively worse until they're unwatchable. I happened to catch the end of a movie this weekend and it looked like Aliens but I had seen all of them (or so I thought) and didn't recognize it. When I checked the tv guide later, I saw it was Alien Resurrection and I guess I never saw it at the theater. It was bad and just plain weird. Here are some movies from my list that started off good but should have quit while they were ahead: Alien The first one was great. The second one was good, better in some ways than the original. All the others after those two should have been scrapped. Police Academy The first one was funny. The second one, some of the same old jokes got lame. Third and beyond...enough already! Austin Powers I actually saw the second one first and it remains my favorite. The third one was an embarrassment. Only the ending spoofing the movie was good. Caddyshack, Grease, Mannequin The same applies to all. The original was great, the sequel was a mess and wasn't meant to be.

Don't forget Highlander. There was never meant to be sequels...the first sequel was so horrible that they had to make another to try and correct the mess. There never should have been an series either (although I loved the series). The whole premise of the Highlander storyline is about getting "the prize" and "there can be only one". At the end of the first movie, there is only one and he gets "the prize". Therefore...no need for sequels. DUH!

I've never seen Highlander so that's why I didn't count it.

I actually saw all of the Alien movies in the theatre and my favorite is the Aliens (the second one.) My least fave is Alien 3 where Ripley is in the penitentiary. That movie was so claustrophobic and depressing!

The first Alien had the most impact because it was new. I didn't know what to expect so it was genuinely shocking at many times. The dialogue left much to be desired and it takes a long time before you get a good look at the alien but all in all, it was very good. I liked the guy in the second movie. He was a hottie. The second movie was more polished than the first movie. Alien was the diamond in the rough and Aliens was a bigger budget, more complete extension of it. After the second movie, they went over the top. Wow, I could start a whole thread to talk about Aliens, especially the first movie.

My brother saw Alien in the theatre and told me about it, including the alien bursting through the chest scene (which he said scared the crap out of him!) so when I saw it (with my cousin and her friend) it didn't have the shock value for me as it did for others like my cousin (who grabbed my wrist and was squeezing the life out of me!) James (The Terminator) Cameron directed Aliens (the 2nd one) so I knew it was going to be one kick-ass movie! That man doesn't play. You must be talking about Michael Biehn who played Cpl. Dwayne Hicks. Yep, he was a hottie, alright!

Re: Aliens vs. Alien
Aliens is so much better than Alien. It's one of the rare times a sequel is better than the original. The thrid and fourth movies were ok, but nowhere near as great as the second movie.

Re: Bad Movies
Sometimes even though a movie is bad to begin with, sequels are made. The Fast & The Furious is a great example. That movie wasn't good to begin with, and now there's a thrid one out. Ugh.
