What's new?
There hasn't been much going on at this board lately so I assume everyone is off doing other stuff. What have you been up to? I just got back from a vacation to the Keys. My dad messed up our reservation and made it for October instead of November. I'm not sure if we'll still be able to go in November. My dad asked my cousin, Kevin, who works at Bahia Honda if he could get us a reservation and he's going to try. They reserve some spaces for volunteers and he might be able to get us one of those. My dad and Melody got a new cat. They named him Bobby McGee after the Janis Joplin song. He's part bobcat so that's why they wanted to name him Bobby. The poor little thing had a cold while we were on vacation and kept sneezing so I nicknamed him Sneezy. Even Dad and Melody were calling him that by the time I left, lol. I started a new job at the end of August and didn't like it so I went back to my old job. I was able to go back because they were both jobs in my same office. I'm planning on going back to school next term but I might change my goals and pursue a degree or certificate in computers instead of crime scene investigation. I'm still dealing with repairs from the water leak in my condo. The real estate agent handling the unit above me said he would pay me $125 to go toward painting my unit but to give him a few months to come up with the money. I sent him an email recently because it's been a few months and now he's saying wait until December. If I have to I'll get my uncle involved because I really need that money. He's lucky he's getting off so cheap. I've spent much more than that on repairs already and I have much more to do. No dates or new friends. Nothing like that. My nephew has been getting into trouble lately. He had to go to teen court and will be doing community service and he has to pay money to his parents for damage he did to their house. He recently got accused by a neighbor of stealing gas from his car so my uncle is helping him out with that. It looks like there isn't any evidence against him but I new charge on top of what he's already dealing with doesn't help. Plus, Roger quit his job which is going to make it more difficult to raise the money to pay his parents. He better get a new job soon.

Pictures from my recent vacation: The first one is a bridge right before Grassy Key. The next few are sunset from our campsite Monday night. The rest are Melody and dad's kitten, Bobby aka "Sneezy".

Those are beautiful pictures pika. Let's see, what is new....I have a new job. I hated my last job because it was not the job I interviewed for and they lied to me in the interview. They wanted me to do billing but I didn't know how and they didn't train me. So I listened to my husband and put my resume back on Monster and the day I did I saw a job for the Medicaid Contractor. I applied and waited and waited for an interview. We scheduled a date for the phone interview and when I got home for it they had called to reschedule it. I tried calling the person for a week and left messages but didn't hear from her. Finally, we had the interview and I really thought that I had not gotten the job. A few days later I got a call from the recruiter offering me the job. Of course I accepted the job. I just got home from spending a month in Austin going through training and now I am a Texas Medicaid Provider Relations Represenative for North Texas. I will be doing workshops, calling on providers, recruiting providers for Medicaid and answering issues that providers call my office to have resolved. I work from my home and have set up a home office. I am just starting to work with providers and I attend workshops to learn how to give them. I love this new job and feel that while it can be overwhelming at times it is doing what I want to do. Yesterday with my birthday and I had a wonderful day shopping with my daughter and granddaughter, then dh took us to a nice restaurant to have dinner. It was a very nice relaxing day. We are hoping to go on vacation next year to Hawaii or back to the Bahamas. I am so looking forward to having a vacation. I want to lie on the beach next year and relax. So that is pretty much what is going on with me. How you doin?

I would love to go to Hawaii sometime, LadyK. I'm glad you got a job you like better than the previous one you had. I was also deceived about which job I was hired for at the lab. It was my understanding I was going to clean glassware and weigh samples only. The day I started they told me I was going to be working with another supervisor instead and I would be doing Controlled Release on top of the other duties. If I had known that was the type of work I would be doing, I might not have taken the job. I'm just glad I was able to get out of it and go back to my other job. I would have done so sooner if I had known that was an option.

Don't you hate that some people think they have to lie to you when you interview for a job? Do they not realize that you are going to be unhappy and find something else? Idiots. I am glad that you were able to get out of that job and were not stuck doing something you hate for years. Did you get to go back to your old job or did you have to find another one someplace else? I hope the new job makes you happy too.

I am 35 days away from being completely finished with college! I'm going to be graduating with honors (Magna Cum Laude). I've been interning as a marketing coordinator for Habitat for Humanity, finishing up my classes and working almost full time. When I am finished with my degree I am going to seek a job that relates more to my degree. My current job has a bunch of mailings lined up for me to do come the end of the year...yeah I really don't want to do that. Next "semester" I am going to take statistics and economics then apply for graduate school ASU for a masters degree in public policy and a certificate in non-profit management.

That's fantastic, La Belle! Graduating with honors and moving on to graduate school....your family must be so proud of you.

Have you heard from Smurfy lately, Brinna? How is she doing?

Brinna- 11-02-2007

Have you heard from Smurfy lately, Brinna? How is she doing?I talked to her last weekend. She's good. New stuff in her life is that she's seriously dating a new guy (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this one works out. So far, so good.) and she's very annoyed with her son's school and his teachers this year...and she's not the only one.

What have I been up to? Well, let's see. I got home in April after doing 3 months of doing volunteer work in Hawaii. I didn't adjust too well to being back on the mainland, hated having to get dressed up in a tie and nice pants and shoes to drive an hour in crappy traffic to go to a job I never liked to begin with where I spent the whole friggin day with people I didn't fit in with so I put my house on the market and it sold amazingly fast and now I am back in Hawaii where i have bliss. A very wonderful friend I met here earlier this year will be back in a month, she and i are going to start a healing arts/tarot/astrology business with the high hopes of having our own psychic/metaphysical cafe/bookstore. I've been working on our website. Also, I watched Spider Man 3 on DVD and i thought the blooper real on the bonus features was pretty funny.

my 14 year old son has had 2 seizures in the last 5 weeks... we thought the first was a faint and then head trauma which caused seizure like activity but then he had the second with no head contact (though it could still be a post traumatic one...but those "aftershocks" usuall happen soon after (days) or late after (months), and his fell in the middle (being weeks)... anywho, we're a little worried and stressed but have him scheduled to be seen at the Barrows Neurological Institute down in the valley... that's all that's new...hopefully it will turn out to be what's old and no longer a problem...

pika- 11-09-2007

From what I understand, Qbone, seizures in children are relatively common and don't always mean they will continue to have seizures as adults. In fact, I had seizures when I was little and was on Dilantin until I was 15. They believe my seizures were related to teething (I'm not sure how) and once I had my wisdom teeth removed, I stopped having seizures. I hope something like that is all that's happening with your son. Have is wisdom teeth come in? Do they look like they're hung up, like there isn't enough room in his mouth for them to clear the gumline? Some kids have seizures when they get a fever or when they have a hormonal imbalance. I hope whatever it is it's something minor and fixable. Keep us updated, Qby.

Holy cow qbone! Please take care and let me know if you need anything here in the Valley!
