User rankings While I was on vacation, my nephew and I worked on user rankings for this board. I'm still fiddling with how to add a small image with the title so bear with me if you notice a red x in your avatar area. I have to go now but later I can fill you in on the user rankings we came up with.

Does this have anything to do with my suddenly being a "Mudskipper"?
And what the heck is a mudskipper???

Looks like we're all mudskippers?
What is a mudskipper, exactly?

 I saw Ruca's earlier and thought that was something she asked for

Well if it refers to my penchant for playing in mud puddles, than yes, it would be correct

Embrace your inner-mudskipper. I have, AND I'VE NEVER BEEN HAPPIER!

A mudskipper is a little fish that can crawl on the land and swim. My nephew and I thought that would be a hilarious name for newbies at the island and rather appropriate. New people are just getting their feet wet and haven't fully made the plunge into this site yet.
This is the image I wanted to post with the ranking but I haven't been able to get it to work yet:
Here are the rankings as I have them now. I may change them, depending on if I'm not able to get the images I want.
Newbie (up to 499 posts)/mudskipper
500 posts/starfish
1000 posts/seahorse
2000 posts/stingray
3000 posts/pufferfish
4000 posts/crab
5000 posts/flounder
6000 posts/parrotfish
7000 posts/dolphin
8000 posts/octopus
9000 posts/manatee
10000 posts/orca
11000 posts/barracuda
12000 posts/swordfish
13000 posts/sawfish
14000 posts/hammerhead
15000 posts/great white

Those sound great Pika! Are you still going to allow people to choose their own title when they hit, say 500 posts? I don't know if I'd want to, I like those names! Where are the images going to go? Really tiny beside the title above our avatars, or in place of our avatar?
Great idea!

Yes. Tif and I discussed and we want to allow people to choose a speciality ranking of their own when they hit 500 posts. You may also change it once every six months, possibly a bit more frequently if you really suck up to one of the administrators (wink-wink) but we're certainly not going to change it once a week. Try to choose a title you'll be able to live with for a few months.

I think the names are cool, and the pictures are fine, but is a newbie still new up to 500 posts? Some people can be around for years and still have less than 500 posts. Not that I'll have a cow over it, but I'd say newbies ought to have their fins pretty wet by 100 or 200 posts. Maybe 250.
Speaking of cows, I didn't notice a sea cow on your list. I want to be a sea cow!

It's still possible to make changes to the rankings. I think I'd rather call it a manatee instead of a sea cow and we could replace one of the other rankings, like scorpionfish, with manatee.
I don't want to have too many rankings. I already have 17. Someone would just need to post more than 500 posts to get to the next ranking. If they don't post more than that, they're stuck being a mudskipper.
Or maybe we could make sea cow a special ranking and if someone doesn't make a post in six months, they get stuck with the ranking of sea cow.

 As long as sea cows are equally represented, that's all I can ask.

Re: 15,000 Posts So what's after 15,000? Or is great white as high as it goes?
pika- 03-27-2005
15,000 is all I have. If this site is still around after someone makes 15,000 posts I could add more rankings
