Theme dinner parties My mom had a lot of cookbooks and I liked to look through them when I was little. One of my favorite ones had ideas for theme parties, specifically buffets in this book. They had a section on how to choose your menu, recipes for foods to go with your theme (Mediterranean, BBQ, Greek, Chinese, etc), decorating tips, all kinds of neat stuff. I always wanted to do a theme party like that but haven't tried it yet.
My dad always talked about wanting to have a Hawaiian themed party for he and my mom's 50th anniversary, with tiki torches, a clambake, etc.
Have you ever done themed dinner parties or been to some hosted by others? If you haven't done one before, would you be interested in trying it sometime? What are some of your favorite themes?

Never been to one and the closest I ever came to giving one was my mom and dads 50th anniversary,
but the theme was "50th wedding Anniversary" so I guess that dont really count.
I dont know how Id fare at a theme dinner party, Im a picky eater so Id be afraid I wouldnt care for the food,
and if you dont eat you might insult the host.

I've never done a "theme" dinner party, but have been to several theme Birthday parties.
Adults attending (not just kid parties).
Pirate themed, Luau, and cowboy have been the themes. I think it would be fun. The trick is to have enough people over to make it work. Four people having a "Mexican-themed" dinner kind of says, "Dorks." Fourteen people having a "Mexican-themed' party says, "Fiesta!"
As for kids...we have done a few birthday theme parties in the past. But none in the last couple of years.

Hmm, guess that's why I've never done a themed dinner party--not enough guests. If 4 people having a themed dinner party screams "dorks" then one person having a themed dinner party with their cats screams "cuckoo bird" or "total loser".
Maybe I could host one and pull in people off the streets to attend. Not the homeless. I mean people hanging around the mall, the grocery store, etc. Kind of like the show "Take-Home Chef", but it would be come-to-my-home dinner host.
