I can't believe it...our vacation to the Keys is back on! My dad got a call from the state park that they've opened up just the cabin area (where we had reservations) and they're going to honor our reservations. So our trip isn't cancelled after all! I'll still be holding my breath unitl the actual day we leave for vacation in case things change again but I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best.

A colleague came into my classroom today to discuss a mutual student. He gave me a very nice compliment about my room. He said it was bright and warm and inviting...unlike most of the classrooms in the high school which have bare white walls with no decoration or personalization. I thought that was very nice of him to tell me that.

I should have posted this yesterday since that when it happened. I had to go to the eye doctor and, I thought, order new frames because the little rubber nose guard thing came off the one side. Since I got them years ago, I figured Id have to get new frames and possibly lenses because they probably dont make these anymore. My ins. already paid for my supply of contacts so I was pretty sure they wouldnt cover the new glasses. So I get there and as usual the parking lot is full...one open spot and its right next to the door. Cool! This place is always packed when I have an appt, and with the lot so full, I was expecting a lot of people in the waiting room. I walk in and its empty. Coolness #2! I signed in and sat down, within 5 mins. the lady motions me to the desk. Nice! I tell her my problem, she calls over the optician and we set down at her little table. She says did I want new frames or do I just want to replace the nose guard. I didnt know they could do that so I said yeah lets do that. Coolness #3! She takes them to the back and comes back less than 10 mins later, hands them to me and says there ya go, theres no charge today. I thought it would at least cost me a couple dollars. Coolness#4! I thanked her and wished her a Merry Christmas and went on my way. A good start to the day I think.

I had a similar thing happen with my glasses. One of the plastic guards snapped off and then the glasses wouldn't sit right - they kept getting crooked - so finally I snapped off the plastic guard on the other side to balance them. When I went in for an eye exam, they said they could fix the broken parts and clean the lenses to remove any small scratches on them and it wouldn't cost me anything. If I had known they could do that, I would have taken them in sooner but at least I know for future reference.

  That cracks me up. People come in all the time to get new nose pads because theirs fell off. They always freak out when I tell them it's free of charge    We're one of the only eye places that does all repairs for free though, so maybe that's why.

Glasses, frames and eye exams are all so expensive I think it's just natural to assume that getting glasses repaired is going to cost an arm and a leg, too.

The fact that anything is free now days is surprising.

Snow day today!! First one of the year! I was accepted to Augustana College, so I will be attending there next year!! I found out yesterday that I made the all-area volleyball team this year!!!(it's a big honor) I made it last year, but I was still scared this year. So yeah, I'm just waiting to graduate and get on with my life. I'm way ready to end this chapter.

I had to laugh at the store today. I went down the aisle marked feminine products and they had the candy right across from the feminine stuff. I had to wonder if the person who decided what goes where considers chocolate to be a feminine product and placed it where pms'ing women in need could find it easily.

Yesterday was a horrible day for me, professionally. Today was much better and I have three things to rave about. 1. My male assistant and right hand was back after an extended leave due to the death of his father-in-law. YEA!!!! 2. One of my students, whom I have long suspected to be highly intelligent, was tested for the TAG (talented and gifted) program this morning. He scored in the 95th percentile...better than 95% of the population. I knew it! The TAG teacher wants to conference with me next week so we can see how to better serve this student. YEA!!! 3. Three of my four pain-in-the-butt students chose to be absent today.
