The Bachelor 9: Episode 3
Episode 903 Air Date: 10/16/2006 The nine remaining Bachelorettes find out there's going to be a group date, a two-on-one date and a solo date with Lorenzo. Host Chris introduces an opera teacher who selects who will go on the individual date. The women have to perform an opera aria -- in Italian! She declares Jami the winner, which means she gets to join Lorenzo for a glamorous night at the opera. Lorenzo is excited about the selection because he thinks Jami is a lot of fun and has a great personality and loves music as much as he does. He's impressed when she walks in wearing a red satin gown with white gloves. It's her turn to be blown away when he presents her with diamond earrings and necklace worth $2 million from Chopard to wear for the evening. The other women can only watch in envy as Lorenzo puts the jewelry on her. True to form, Erica still thinks Jami and Lorenzo aren't compatible and that there's "no way" Jami is getting a rose tonight. They drive through the beautiful Italian countryside to the opera house, where they are the only people in the audience. Waiting for them is a couch and champagne. Lorenzo asks Jami to show off her winning opera aria, so she gamely gets up on stage and sings it for him. Back at the house, a small chest arrives with a few names taped to it: Sadie, Desiree, Jeannette, Erica, Jennifer, Lisa, and Gina. Inside are red and green grapes and an invitation to enjoy the Tuscan sun the next day. The women are all ecstatic, except for Erica, who's quite blasé. In return for singing for him, Jami insists he tell her "something really good" about himself. He tells her how important his family is to him, and how difficult it is being apart from them and she talks about how her parents get along better now that they're divorced. FInally the curtain opens, revealing opera singer xx (I couldn't catch his name!) and Lorenzo admits to an impressed Jami that he was in on the secret. He invites Jami to dance and she kisses him on the cheek. He tells her it was the most romantic night of his life, but dancing with her was like dancing with his best friend. He doesn't want to hurt her, but he can't give her the rose. She appreciates his honesty but admits her ego and her pride are crushed. She says she really let down her guard with him and cries as he puts her into the limo that will take her home. On the group date in Tuscany, Gina hopes Lorenzo notices her and Lisa is anxious about having to share him for the first time. After the wine-tasting, Jeannette makes her move and pulls Lorenzo away to sample grapes. He tells her she's hard to read, but he likes that about her. She says she's not comfortable vying for his attention but that she came on the show to find someone special and that she thinks he is special. Meanwhile, Lisa tells the other women she doesn't find the setting romantic, not compared to her one-on-one date with Lorenzo. Desiree has to "bite her lip" not to tell Lisa off. The only two women left at the house are Agnese and Erica, who are getting on each other's nerves. They open a music box from Lorenzo. Inside is a note that reads, "One rose. One stays. One goes." Agnese laughingly says the rose will be hers and Erica responds,"I don't think so, bitch." Agnese shrugs it off. She thinks Erica is crazy "and not so beautiful." Erica decides they need their beauty sleep for their date with Lorenzo. She explains that she can communicate with Agnese the best of any of the girls because "she speaks English slowly and with an Italian accent." The mood in Tuscany changes when the girls come down to the pool that evening and see a single rose laid out on a pillow. "It's kind of nerve-wracking," says Desiree. Sadie takes Lorenzo aside and tells him she's saving herself for marriage; she doesn't want one of the other girls spilling her secret first. He says he would never have expected it, but he admires that she's waiting for the right person and gives her a kiss on the cheek and a hug. Lorenzo grabs Lisa, whom he hasn't had any alone time with since their date at the Villa Borghese. Jeannette thinks Lisa has a "weird vibe," and that she can't be trusted. But Lorenzo obviously feels differently, because he asks Lisa if he can kiss her. He says he'd like to do it "again and again and again" but they have to get back. She's excited that her five-year-plan is right on track. The women and Lorenzo frolic in the pool and then retire to his bedroom, where things get steamy once a game of Truth or Dare starts. Desiree is dared to feed Lorenzo a grape with her mouth and Jennifer has to drink wine out of his belly button. Sadie asks him which of the girls in the house he's already kissed. He says he's kissed all of them, at least on the cheek and Lisa is glad he didn't reveal their kiss because it would "just add more fuel to the fire." The next morning, Lorenzo spends some time alone with Jennifer. He asks her why she became a teacher and she says she sort of fell into it but that she's found it very rewarding. She gets choked up, thinking of the kids she's missing. Before they rejoin the others, he gives her a kiss that's more than a peck but not quite the kiss he gave Lisa. When it's time to present the rose, he wishes he had a rose for each of them, but he gives it to Jeannette. She's glowing, but Lisa admits she's let down. And Sadie begins to second-guess having told Lorenzo she's a virgin. Erica is sure she's going to get the rose over Agnese, whom she doesn't consider "princess material." When they arrive at Lorenzo's, he says there's a change of plans. He was going to take them out on the town, but he's decided to have the date at his house because that's the best way to get to know someone. He lets them go into his closet and pick out something to wear to be comfortable, so they end up in his shirts and boxers. Instead of a fancy dinner, they have pizza with beer and wine on Lorenzo's bed. Erica mentions the rose on the night stand, which is Lorenzo's cue to start making his decision. Alone with Erica, he asks if she feels she has a stronger connection to him than the other girls do. She says because she's been to Rome before, the most exciting thing about the whole adventure is him. She says she's "not going to name names," but she is dismissive of how wowed the other girls are by their first helicopter ride or their first time being in Rome. She says to ask anything he wants to know about her so that he can know who she really is, but he says he already knows. To the camera, she says she thinks she's several notches above the other girls and that Lorenzo "needs to stop being a dumbass and show some interest in me." Back at the house, the other women predict who Lorenzo will pick and they all choose Agnese. During his time alone with Agnese, Lorenzo tells her he's astonished how much better her English is since their first date. Erica sneaks out onto the balcony and says hello but Agnese waves her away with, "See you later. Bye!" It's time to present the rose to one of them. Lorenzo tells Erica she's beautiful and bright but he feels she's trying to be someone else to please him, so he's giving the rose to Agnese. As he's leading her out, Erica tells Lorenzo she thinks he judged her on that first night when she said he wasn't compatible with Jami, which ended up being true. He says that she was so different from the first date that he felt that she was putting on an act. Still protesting how unfair he's being and that he's been judging her from the start, Erica is driven away in a limo. Her last words to him, "I'm sorry you made a really bad mistake." When they see whose luggage is being taken away, the girls proclaim, "Our drama queen is going home." Alone with Agnese, Lorenzo shows her the lights of Rome from his balcony. She's happily nestled against him -- until the fireworks start! She's still holding the rose as he kisses her. Lorenzo has four roses left to give. The one girl who doesn't receive a rose will be on a plane back to the U.S. that night. He starts off by saying they all have so many great qualities, and that tonight's rose ceremony will be the hardest one yet. He presents Roses to: Sadie Lisa Jennifer Desiree Gina is devastated but tries her hardest not to cry as she says her goodbyes. She says she was "ready to give him her everything" and that she doesn't know what he saw in the other six that he didn't see in her.

The Bachelor: Rome, Episode 3 – Princess Material by Ashley Lundy -- 10/17/2006 Last week, the bachelorettes were narrowed down to nine after a sleepy day at the beach. This week they get narrowed down to six after a group date, a special two-on-one date and a heart-wrenching individual date. Who sings their heart out to go to the opera with Lorenzo? Who gets to wear a $2 million necklace? And what happens to Ashley’s nemesis, Erica (right)? Find out here! Welcome back for the third episode of The Bachelor: Rome! Let’s get right to it, shall we? Chris greets the ladies and tells them that there will be one group date, one two-on-one date and one individual date this week. He also informs them that they will compete for the individual date right now! The bachelorettes will be taught an aria by Rina Infintino, one of the foremost opera teachers in Italy. Then, they will have to perform the aria, in Italian, for Rina and the other bacherlorettes. Rina will listen to them all and pick a winner. Whoa, that sounds hard. The ladies get their voices warmed up. Jeanette says she doesn’t have a single vocal cord in her. Uh. I’m just going to leave that alone. Desiree says, fortunately, the performance was not based on talent, but rather on how hard you tried. We see the girls singing and it’s not great. Gina is screechy, so is Sadie. Jeanette is shaky and squeaky. Jami isn’t hideous. Erica and Jennifer are horrible. Lisa’s has a little Betty Boop flare to it. In the end, Jami wins the contest! She opens a note from Lorenzo saying their date will be at the opera. Lorenzo is excited because he thinks Jami is a lot of fun and has a great personality. She loves music and he loves music. He thinks it’s going to be the perfect date. Jami comes out in a red dress with white gloves, and her hair is pulled up. She looks just like Julia Roberts from Pretty Woman. Then, in perfect Richard Gere from Pretty Woman fashion, Lorenzo opens a giant jewelry box and reveals a $2 million Chopard diamond and ruby necklace, with matching earrings, which Jami can wear for the evening. It’s all cool, but not the most original idea. Erica, of course, has to be a little tarty brat and say that she still doesn’t think Lorenzo and Jami are compatible. She thinks Lorenzo dressed up Jami with gloves to cover up her tattoos and there is no way Jami is getting a rose. I wonder if she ever listens to herself. Lorenzo and Jami are taking a lovely ride through the countryside on the way to the opera. Jami tells Lorenzo she is glad to have some time alone with him. He tells us that Jami was wearing two million dollars worth of diamonds and he felt like the luckiest guy alive. They arrive at a gorgeous opera house and sit down for wine and talking. Jami says she is just a small town girl from Texas and arriving to the opera house with Lorenzo was the most surreal and amazing moment of her life. Lorenzo asks Jami to sing for him since he heard she won the singing contest to get this date. He even pulls out the lyrics to the song she had to learn. Jami complies, but she doesn’t sound quite as good as she did earlier. Still, Lorenzo gives her a standing ovation and tells her that was the best opera he has ever heard. Back at the castle, Desiree, Jeanette, Jennifer, Lisa, Gina, and Sadie get a treasure chest date box. They open it up. It has grapes in it and a note that says they will be spending the day under the Tuscan sun. Jami tells Lorenzo that since she sang opera, he has to tell her something about him. He says he loves his family and his friends. Being on the show is difficult for him because he usually talks to them every day. Jami begins to tell him about how much better her holidays are now that her parents are divorced, when the curtains open on the stage and out comes some Italian singer, Vittorio Grigolo! The two get up and begin slow dancing together. Lorenzo says in voiceover that Jami is a great girl, but he’s not sure the physical connection is there. Afterward, the rose is looming on the podium nearby, and Lorenzo knows that Jami is thinking about it. He tells her that it was the most romantic evening of his life, but he felt like he was dancing with his best friend. He wants to be honest with her and doesn’t want to hurt her, so he can’t give her the rose. She is understandably emotional. She says her ego and pride are crushed. She felt so special tonight and this is the most horrible feeling in the whole world. Poor thing. And I hate that Erica was right. Oh, how I hate it. Lorenzo doesn’t want to give Jami the wrong impression. He doesn’t have a physical attraction to her and he did not want to mislead her. I can actually respect that. She won the singing contest, so it’s not like he picked her for the individual date just to dump her. With that, Jami is out of the competition. After a break, Lorenzo rolls up to the castle to pick up the girls for the group date. Gina says there is a lot of competition at this date. Lisa, Sadie, and Jennifer have all received roses on dates and Gina wants it this time. Lisa is on her first group date and she says it will be interesting because she has never had to share Lorenzo before. They travel to Castello di Velona for wine tasting. Lorenzo pops the cork on a few bottles and pours it for the ladies. Desiree says wine tasting under the Tuscan sun is incredible and she is so excited she can’t even breathe. Out of nowhere, Jeanette asks the girls if she can have some time alone with Lorenzo. Amazingly, they all allow it and the two go for a walk through the vineyard. Jeanette says one-on-one time is so important and she wants Lorenzo to know she likes him. They eat the grapes and talk. Lorenzo tells Jeanette that it is hard to read her, but he likes it. She tells him that she’s not going to throw herself out there because it’s vying for attention. But asking all the girls if she can have time alone with Lorenzo in the middle of a group date isn’t vying for attention? Hmm. Jeanette thinks Lorenzo is a unique and special person. Lorenzo thinks that he and Jeanette had one of the most meaningful conversations he’s had since he got there. He adds that he is obviously attracted to her because she is a beautiful girl. He was blown away with her honesty and everything was perfect. The other girls on the date are looking out over the vineyard. Lisa asks the girls if they think Lorenzo finds this romantic. I guess she means the group date. The girls all think that he does, but Lisa says she doesn’t. She says being there with five other people couldn’t feel romantic. Her individual date was more romantic. Way to ruffle feathers, Lisa. Desiree tells us that she is biting her lip with Lisa. Lisa got the first rose, the diamond earrings, and the first rose on the individual date – and a girl like that really shouldn’t be worth her time. I’m not sure I get that. I think Desiree is just annoyed with Lisa. Agnese and Erica get their date box. Erica says that everyone she likes is on the other date and Agnese, whom she calls “Agnes,” is unavoidable because she hangs around annoyingly. The date box is a music box with a note in it that says “One Rose. One Stays. One Goes.” Erica thinks it’s scary. Agnese says, “The rose is mine,” and Erica says, “I don’t think so, bitch.” Agnese says Erica is so crazy bad, not very beautiful. That was too polite for me. Everyone comes back from the group date for some poolside cocktails. Sadie and Lorenzo walk off for a little chat. Sadie wants to tell Lorenzo that she is saving herself for marriage before the other girls get a chance. Lorenzo says it shows him her values. He thinks it’s amazing that she’s waiting for the right person. He never would have expected that. He’s sure every guy wants to date her and she’s held off this long, so he admires her even more. Sadie loves that Lorenzo thanked her for her honesty because you never know how guys are going to react to that. Lorenzo invites Lisa to go on a little private chat. They sit down and Lorenzo says that he had a great time with her at the park and he was glad she was his first one-on-one date. He was wondering if he could kiss her. She says yes and they kiss. They look a little stiff, but they both agree it was good. Lorenzo tells Lisa he would do it again and again and again if he could. She says they can do it again later. Sluts. Cue the brat. Erica is lying on her stomach on the bed telling Agnese that they need to get their beauty sleep so they don’t look tired for their date tomorrow. Erica says she communicates with Agnese better than anybody because she speaks very slow English and uses words that sometimes Agnese would confuse. She also speaks in an Italian accent and that helps. I can’t even hate Erica right now. That’s hysterical! Back to the group date and the girls are jumping in the pool with Lorenzo. It’s splish splash fun. Then it’s up to Lorenzo’s bedroom for a little truth or dare. Jennifer dares Desiree to put a grape in her mouth and feed it to Lorenzo. She does. Gina dares Jennifer to do a body shot off of Lorenzo. She does. Lorenzo foolishly says truth when it’s his turn, I guess, because suddenly Sadie is asking him which girls in the house he has kissed. He says he’s kissed every single girl in the house. Lisa tells us that Lorenzo said that because he’s kissed every girl on the cheek. She thinks he is trying to protect her. If the other girls knew about her and Lorenzo’s kiss, it would just add more fuel to the fire. The next morning, we see Lorenzo walking hand-in-hand with Jennifer. He wants to chat with her more because he didn’t get to the night before. I guess someone had too much to drink. He asks her how she became a teacher and she says she fell into it. She gets choked up talking about her students and says it’s a rewarding profession. Jennifer tells us that they had a great conversation and she feels a connection to him and she really hopes she gets the rose. Lorenzo gives her a solid kiss before heading back. All the girls are curious to know who gets the rose. They all sit with Lorenzo at the breakfast table as he gives the rose to Jeanette. He says he enjoyed their chat in the vineyards and appreciates her honesty. Lisa is surprised that, even though she got the first kiss, she didn’t get the rose. It’s a letdown. Sadie thinks she shouldn’t have been as open about saving herself for marriage. She doesn’t know if she is going to get a rose now. It’s time for the showdown between Erica and Agnese. Come on, Agnese. My future recapping happiness rests in your hands. Lisa thinks the two-on-one date is going to be some drama. Erica just knows that whoever gets the rose stays. Of course, Erica does not think Agnese is princess material. Agnese tells the camera that she is getting a rose on this date, no matter what. Bring it on, Erica! As the girls get out of the limo, Lorenzo says he is bummed out because he has to send one of them home in the middle of the date. He tells the girls that he was going to take them out in Rome for their date, but decided to stay in instead. He says you never know anyone better than when they are in your home. The girls can go through his things and wear his clothes. They are going to order some pizza and drink beer and wine. Dude, I would be some bummed out that some girls went to a wine-tasting in Tuscany, but I get beer and pizza. We see all three of them sitting on Lorenzo’s bed and munching down on pizza. Erica points out the rose and Lorenzo says he knows it’s time and starts to get more serious. Erica tells Lorenzo that the most exciting part of the experience is him. She has done all the other stuff, helicopter rides and all, and it’s not a novelty to her. It’s not a big deal. She’s all about Lorenzo. She tells us that Lorenzo needs her and no one else could do the job. She thinks Agnese is a gold-digger, he can find a girl like Jennifer anywhere, Sadie’s virginity is a little bit weird, and Lisa is only one notch up from that. Erica is seven notches up from that, no wait, 100 notches from that. She wants a rose and then would like Lorenzo to “stop acting like a dumb ass” and show some interest in her. Lorenzo is hanging out alone with Agnese. He tells us he is still worried about that pesky language barrier. We see Lorenzo tell her that her English has already improved since their first night. Then we see Erica tip toe up on a balcony to spy on Lorenzo and Agnese. She comes right up to the edge and yells down to them, “hi guys.” They yell hi back and Lorenzo asks her if she misses him. Agnese yells, “bye.” I like Agnese. It’s decision time. Lorenzo tells Erica she is an amazing girl. She’s beautiful and bright, it’s tough to find fault with her. He feels like she would change and be whoever he wanted her to be. Erica says that’s not true, but that’s how he felt. He has to be honest with her. He asks Agnese if she will accept the rose. She does and they hug. He apologizes to Erica and offers to walk her out. I’m ecstatic. This is one long walk. Erica starts rambling how Lorenzo is holding something she said the first night against her. She was right; he’s not compatible with Jami. He tells her that she took a complete 180. She says she wanted him to see a different side of her. He hasn’t seen her yet. She’s had people judging her for her entire life and she thought they would have that in common and it’s not fair. What a crybaby. Lorenzo tells us that he understands people having two sides, but doesn’t understand people having two such polar sides. He realized he doesn’t know Erica and that’s why he had to let her go. She gets in the limo, rolls down the window, and starts arguing with Lorenzo some more. She feels like he didn’t get to know her the first time. She tried to do her best to be who she was but he was so unfair and wouldn’t come into tonight with an open mind. He says he did come with an open mind, but he thinks she is too quick to judge. She admits that is true, but that she wants to change that. He says he has no idea who he is getting. He tries to politely say good night, but she’s not really having it. As the limo drives away, Erica whines to the camera that all the guys she dates always judge her for being pretty, smart, and for being from a privileged background. She thought if she met someone like her, he wouldn’t judge her, but it’s not true. What a delusional view of things, Erica. Erica goes on to say that every guy wants a poor girl so he can be Prince Charming to Cinderella. She just wants her co-equal. Now, she is going to go boil Lorenzo’s rabbit. Agnese and Lorenzo are on a balcony looking at the view of the night sky, when suddenly, fireworks start bursting in the air. Agnese and I both jump. Lorenzo and she share some sexy kissing. Now, we are back at the Borghese castle, and it’s time for the rose ceremony. Jeannette and Agnese are safe because they received roses on their dates. Lorenzo comes out and tells the ladies that tonight’s ceremony is going to be the hardest it’s ever been. The first rose goes to Sadie, who he calls “cute little Sadie.” They kiss and Sadie gets back in line. The next roses go to Lisa and Jennifer. For dramatic flare, Chris reminds everyone that there is one rose left. The final rose goes to Desiree. Gina is going home. She gives a teary-eyed sourpuss face one more time before she goes. Gina is devastated. Lorenzo chose six women over her and she was prepared to give Lorenzo everything. This is not her fairytale ending. She thought she would stay. She doesn’t understand. Her Prince Charming is out there for her. She knows it in her heart. Next week, we get chariot rides, plane rides, lots of kissing, streaking, drama with Lisa, and, oh no, Erica returns. We close out the show with the girls doing a runway show by the pool for Lorenzo.
