TAR8 Pool
It's time to start thinking about your TAR pool! I've wanted to run one in the past but have been hesitant because I don't have any fancy website skills like Jeremy's Survivor pools or some of the others. But with Jay's low-tech TAR7 pool last year I was emboldened to take a shot at it. So, I guess I'll be running the Island's TAR8 pool.  So, what do you Islanders want in a pool? What do you not want in a pool? Would you be willing to pay the Pool Master to win? You know, the important things that make a pool fun.  I'm tinkering with some ideas on incorporating the Fast Forward and/or Yield into the pool in some way. For the most part, it will look a lot like Jay's pool last year, I should think. Idolfan should be doing the quiz, and I like the idea of two separate facets of an overall "TAR Grand Poobah" thing like Jay did at RTVP for TAR7. Who was it that won that again? Anyway, people who don't want to mess with a weekly quiz can still do the pool without losing any points for not doing the quiz; and those who want to do the quiz but not the pool can likewise participate. Of course, the Grand Poobah of TAR must participate in both. I liked the lower scoring pool & quiz Jay had, so that no one really ran away with either one--it's always a bummer when the winner is obvious halfway through the season!  Other than that, I'm entertaining ideas so don't be stingy if you have a brainstorm!

I'd love to have a pool for TAR 8 but please, in the name of all that's holy, don't have challenges like the TAR Team Game at RTVP!!! I'm still going to counseling to get over the horror of that experience. I'll have to think of ideas for the pool this weekend.

I, for one, will not only participate but enthusiastically endorse the pool and quiz. It's a time consuming job...but it can be so much fun! Good luck Brad...and if you need any help...just sing out (But not "U can't touch this!")

Oh, I loved Spidey's TEAM game for TAR7, but it was very time-consuming. For the pool, I'll steer clear of required weekly activity, though I may have something to be done each week...but I'm not saying what it is just yet. Jay, how 'bout "Hammertime" when I need to call in Mighty Thor for some consultation? Seriously, let me know of any ideas or aspects of the pool that did or didn't work for you. I'm trying to remember points categories from the past, plus new ones that would be something new.

pika- 07-22-2005

Maybe I'll just sit out of this pool, then. I don't know if I might be in school again when it starts. If that's the case, I won't have much time to participate.

just bradley- 07-22-2005

No no no, pika! If you have time to post, you'll have time for the pool, I promise! I already have a rough framework in mind and I'm just working out the details, but once your team is set, you won't have much to do at all--you can even just let it ride if you want, and not do a thing each week. At least wait 'til I get the rules figured out and posted before you (everyone!) decide. I'll try to have 'em done by mid-August, and that will give everyone about 3 weeks to pick their teams before it starts.

Kitri- 07-24-2005

Count me in!!

just bradley- 07-25-2005

yay Kitri! Maybe I'll give bonus points to people who commit before all the details are worked out. heh

Would you be willing to pay the Pool Master to win? You know, the important things that make a pool fun.  DEFINITELY...let the haggling begin!  Maybe I'll give bonus points to people who commit before all the details are worked out. heh Excellent idea! I hereby commit to both pool and weekly quiz!

Pepette- 08-06-2005

Ill play on one condition...and Jay knows what that is. Id to see something in a lepoard print if you can find one  On second thought, Brad too..  Put this on Brad....

It's way too hot for a skull cap, Pepette! Plus, those dang ear holes are way too big.

Pepette- 08-06-2005

The Amazing Race 8 site is up (The Amazing Race 8 Site) and we finally get to see the new batch of contestants, so I will be getting the pool ready to start soon. In a nutshell, this is what you can be thinking about as you peruse the Amazing Race 8 site. Pool players will pick a Squad consisting of 4 Family Teams. Points will be awarded for various things like winning a leg, finishing a Roadblock first, using good strategy, etc. The longer your Squad teams stay in the Race, the more points you will earn, so don't pick any losers! It's not all worked out yet, but as a teaser you can expect: to pick specific a player(s) who will earn points just for participating in a Roadblock; a Detour in which Pool players will choose 1 of 2 ways to earn extra points during the course of the Amazing Race; the opportunity to Yield fellow Pool players. I think it's gonna be fun, and I promise that once you pick your Squad and Detour choice, you won't have to commit large amounts of time (if any) each week to the Pool. But you will want to, 'cuz it's gonna be fun! I'll get the ends tied up and post the Pool Rules by September 1st, so there's still time to share with me your ideas on what might be fun to include in the Pool. I'm not saying all ideas will be incorporated, since it's pretty much ready to go right now, but if you come up with something cool that I can fit into what we've got, you never know.
