TAR8 Pool Scoring The object is to pick teams that will not only make it to the end, but will also play the game competitively along the way. More points are given for the more objective components of the game. Racers that consistently win or finish in the top half of legs, Detours, and Roadblocks will accumulate big points. I have included some subjective categories to help keep the scores from being all the same, and to make it a little more fun. :D
+ ? - Each Fast Forward accurately predicted in the Shoot Detour.
+25 - Team still in race at beginning of leg
+25 - Team finishes in top half of remaining racers (rounded up when there is an odd number of racers)
+25 - Team finishes leg first
These three are cumulative, so if a team wins the leg they will get 75 points; everyone else will get either 50 or 25, depending on how many teams are left in the race.
+20 - Each time the eliminated team matches your elimination list in the Boot Detour.
+15 - Uses Yield, 'cuz I wanna see people play to win, dangit!
+15 - Completes Fast Forward, see Yield
+10 - Finishing Detour and/or Roadblock in top half of racers
+10 - Finishing Detour and/or Roadblock first
+10 - "Currently in First" at any time in episode
+10 - Roadblocker participates in Roadblock
+10 - Roadblocker finishes Roadblock first
+7 - Starts a leg 1 hour or more ahead of any team (per team), 'cuz kickin' booty should be rewarded! :)
+7 - Injured/faces a fear/etc. for the team, 'cuz it makes you feel good to see people suffer for the cause
+7 - Wins footrace to any mat (Pit Stop/Yield/Fast Forward), 'cuz it's just good competition and TV :D
+7 - Strong/strategic/smart play, assuming there is any!
+5 - Attempts Fast Forward
+5 - Equipment malfunction beyond control, think of it as consolation points.
+5 - Quoted in Episode Title, meh, why not?
+5 - Finishes leg first but gets no prize, 'cuz that's just wrong
+3 - Each team member that hugs Phil; double if they hug Phil's Mat Guest as well, 'cuz spreading the love is nice
+3 - Team member calls "shotgun" when riding in cars, 'cuz it's funny!
+3 - Helps another team in some way, 'cuz it's nice to be nice.
+3 - Family secret revealed/exposed, 'cuz that's entertainment!
+3 - Drives their Yukon through the drive-thru for a quick meal, 'cuz it looks like they're gonna have those Yukon's for a while, and I just think it's funny to stop for McNuggets during the Amazing Race.
+3 - Recognizes past TAR racers, 'cuz they just ought to, that's why. 8)
-1 - Catches group due to HO (per team in front of them), 'cuz I don't like Hours of Operation helping the slackers!
-3 - Loses a clue, stupid
-3 - Pulled over by law enforcement, 'cuz getting caught is just not good racing! 8O
-3 - Says "I hate you!" or "Shut Up", 'cuz that's just not nice...even though it's kinda funny
-5 – Quitting a Roadblock or Detour (doesn't include switching tasks at a Detour)
-5 - Bad strategy or play, not necessarily resulting in elimination (like putting unleaded fuel in a diesel car, getting stupid lost, not reading all of a clue, etc.)
-10 - Penalized for breaking a game rule
-15 - Initiates a physical confrontation with another racer (or bystander)
-40 - Finishes last in non-elimination leg
-60 - When Yielded by Pool players

I changed one thing about the Yield scoring: If there is a tie in Yield nominations, each player tied will lose 60 points.
I also had an idea regarding scoring that I want to run by you players. Since I can't give out trips or $20,000 to the winner of each leg, I thought I'd give you the option of creating a scoring category for the next leg. It wouldn't be anything big like 500 points, but 3 or 5 points for whatever you can come up with to look for.
Since bjb544 had more points after the first leg, you would get to choose the category (like, "Makes a love connection with another racer" or something). I would then use that category in scoring leg 2 only. Then the person with the most points in leg 2 would get to pick a scoring category for leg 3.
It could be fun, and shouldn't drastically affect the overall scores since I'm giving bigger points to Roadblocks, Detours, and placing in each leg. Let me know what you think; and if you want to do it, I'll need your category before the start of the next episode.

Week 2 Family Scores Here's how the families fared in Week 2 of the Pool. When there are an odd number of racers, I will use the larger number when determining who the top half of teams are. For example, with 9 teams the top half would be 4.5, but I will include 5th place in the top group since I can't divide the teams in half.

Here is the formula for determining how many points you will lose if you want to trade teams.
After leg 1: -35 per team, -70 per Squad Leader
After leg 2: -70 per team, -140 per Squad Leader
After leg 3: -105 per team, -210 per Squad Leader
After leg 4: -140 per team, -280 per SL
After leg 5: -175 per team, -350 per SL
After leg 6: -210 per team, -420 per SL
After leg 7: -245 per team, -490 per SL
After leg 8: -280 per team, -560 per SL
After leg 9: -315 per team, -630 per SL
After leg 10: -350 per team, -700 per SL
And if there are more legs, it will continue in the same pattern...though really, trading at that point probably won't be worth it.
just bradley- 10-06-2005
Winner's Choice I'll post this here so hopefully everyone will see it. I mentioned it in another thread and never added it to the "official" scoring thread.
Each week there is a high scorer among the pool players. Since I can't award $20k or trips to leg winners, I'm going to let the highest scoring player come up with a scoring category for the following week.
bjb544 won the first week, and submitted the category "Asks stranger for directions". So during leg 2 I included that category in my scoresheet. It will not be a category for leg 3, unless the leg 2 winner--Buckets--chooses to keep it, as he is free to come up with an entirely different category, like "Picks Their Nose" or "Does Not Wear Seatbelt" or whatever.
This is just a little funzy for the high scorer of each leg, as it won't generate enough points to catapult someone into first place, but it might add a few points that could make the difference between first and second, second and third, etc. You don't have to submit a category if you don't want to.
And Jay, I'll just let you know in advance in case you happen to win one of these legs...I ain't gonna allow any categories like "3 points per breath taken" or "3 points per tire revolution".

Pool Strategy Don't forget to change out the Aiello family from your squad this week, if you are planning on doing so. Some of you have indicated you are leaving your squads "as-is" for strategy reasons so as not to lose the points.
For those playing the "Shoot" Detour, however, consider that if you spend 105 points to trade a team, and then correctly guess the leg that has a Fast Forward in it, you will effectively negate the loss of points due to the fact that the "Shoot" Detour will award you as many points as necessary to take over first place on the leaderboard(see rules in the event that more than 1 person pick the Fast Forward in the same leg).
Of course, if you don't pick the right leg for the Fast Forward, you're just plain out of luck. :?
Just something to complicate your strategies.
Happy Yielding, everyone!
