Set ups Is it just me or does it seem like every year there are more and more 'set up' contestants? They've always done it, but either they're doing it more and more every year or the acting is getting much worse.
Some of the 'devastated' wannabes are so transparent it's pathetic.
And can I just say agin how much Ryan Seacrest makes me ill...

I watched the show last night but I left my notes at home so I'll have to post my thoughts later. I don't understand why so many truly bad singers make it long enough in the competition to end up in front of the judges. If American Idol wants to be taken seriously, they should only put through people with at least some spark of talent.
I do love watching Randy crack up over some of the bad contestants but maybe they could put outtakes in a special show at the end of the season.

I have never really watched Idol before. You can probably count up all the Idol I've seen and get less than an hour of time total.
Until last night.
I was at the YMCA working out...shutup, I was too...and Idol was on. I really enjoyed it.
My favorite moments: The teenage boy who got the nod to go to Hollywood, the Rocker kid who sang EVERYTHING like he had a sore-throat (heh...Dancing Queen), and the "Kiss" montage...(Randy - "Prince is never gonna come on the show again!).
So...I may watch some more Idol this year. Or...at least until the RACE returns.
OH....and count me in the "Paula is on drugs" crowd. Heavy, heavy, heavy drugs.

Here's the thing:
There are plently of people that are willing to make fools of themselves on television. I'm fairly confident that these people are aware that they have no singing ability; they're all there for the possible 15 minutes of fame. To get on TV you've either got to be good (really good), really unique (very werid..), or really terrible.
It's all for entertainment, and Idol likes money. But I don't think that you can blame them for setting anyone up.

What I don't like is Idol shows more bad singers than good ones. It gets boring after a while. Sure, those poor pathetic fools know they can't sing worth a damn and all they want is their 15 minutes of fame but give the ones who make it through to Hollywood just as much or more airtime.

I get tired of these first auditions. For me the real fun begins when the field is narrowed down and they start auditioning in groups. I love the group turmoil and drama.

I believe it was mentioned last year that the reason we may not get to see all the good ones audition is because of Idol not being allowed to show their song choices due to copyrights or something. And with the auditions so far it seems that there were precious few that actually were good enough to make it through. I think for Seattle it was only around 14. So of the thousands they had to listen to each day, thank goodness we didn't have to see all of them. So far I think the auditions have been the worst of all the seasons, but I will still watch and look forward to the LA portion and the rest.

I would actually LOVE to try out for Idol.
I have absoutely NO talent in terms of singing ability- ZILCH.
I want to do it for the experience; and I'd probably want to be shown on TV too.
