"Not While I'm Around" (1/14/07)
The show starts with Mary Alice telling us how the average housewife worries, so they carry things to make them feel safe. Lynette with alarms, Gabrielle with pepper spray, Bree with a gun in her drawer. She tells us inmates worry about the dangerous people they're around so they use ordinary objects and turn them into weapons. We see Mike taking a toothbrush and making some sort of little knife with it, keeping hidden in his sock. We see an inmate go up to Mike and say "Mr. Delfino, right?", Mike says yeah and the guy punches him out, then another guy punches him too and Paul Young comes in and knocks both guys out and "protects Mike". Mary Alice "Yes, we all need protection from those who would do us harm and sometimes those who protect us". Later Mike thanks Paul and says if there is ever anything he cold do for him, to let him know. A guard called Mike over and warns him to watch out for Paul saying he saw him pay the two guys that punched him. Gabby Gabby walked in her house and saw a mannequin wearing a dress in the entrance. She freaked out and went to Carlos' and asked him to sleep over and protect her, because her stalker had broken into her home. He told he he was going to go back home the following day and she tells him he can't, she is scared. She comes out wearing the dress that was on the mannequin and tells him she wasn't scared of the dress. She was laying in bed, heard a noise, looked out and saw a guy. She ran to get Carlos, they opened the door and he pinned the guy down. The guy said he had to call his boss to tell him delivering the gift didn't work. It was a bracelet. Gabby grabbed the phone and when the person was telling her how much he spent on all the gifts she agreed to meet him for lunch, while Carlos was yelling in the background to tell the guy she'd call the cops, etc... Gabby was at the table and waiting for her admirer to show up. Then Zack with long hair shows up. She says hi to him and tells him she is waiting for someone, he said he knows, he was the guy. Gabby was shocked. She said he was too young for her, he reminded her he was 2 months older than John, she turns him down, but thanks him for the lunch. She kisses him on the forehead and he kissed her on the lips, she gets really upset, says "Don't hijack a Ferrari if you don't know how to drive it" and leaves. When she got back home, Carlos asked about the date. She was trying to lie and he told her he thought she and Zack would make a cute couple. Said he was parked across the street, she got upset but he said it may have been a psycho killer she was meeting. She tells him she doesn't want him to look after her anymore, she wants to look after herself, she will install an alarm. He looks hurt and tells her that if she needs him he lives right down the street. Lynette Lynette was telling Tom she was anxious to see the restaurant, he told her she would have to wait. She asked if there was a VIP visit for the one who bore his kids and he said not until everything was done. He didn't want to hear her snarky remarks about how he should do things, she got upset and he told her she was banned from the opening. She said goodnight and went upstairs and he said "We're not having sex?" and she said " Hey, you banned me from your opening!" Tom was at the restaurant and she called to ask if they could meet for lunch but he had to get napkins. He left the restaurant and she was waiting near by watching him from her car. When he left, she went in. Andrew was there, she told him not to tell Tom she was there. He told her they couldn't get a liquor license and she was livid because liquor is what makes half the business. Andrew said not enough people signed in the neighborhood to agree to it. Lynnette decided to take matters into her own hands and had the people sign for the license. She got to one guy's place and he said he refused to sign it, he didn't want drunks puking on his porch. She was wearing a low cut blouse and he was looking at her boobs and she said to look at her face. After a couple times of doing that he told her he hadn't laid eyes on a beautiful woman's bossoms in a long time. She asked if she could refresh his memory and handed him the paper to sign, flashed him and he signed it. When she got home Tom told her he was celebrating. Said he finally got the liquor licence but didn't believe it was Andrew who went to get the signatures. He felt like a loser, he tried for two months to get it signed and Lynette did it in one day. He said he wanted to succeed on his own and felt like it was the man's job and she told him he helps her succeed at work. They agreed they would work together. She said she'll get her sex perfume, they'll get naked and they'll see who the man is. Susan Julie was talking to Austin about going on the pill. He said they should stick to condoms. Susan walked in and went upstairs and they continued talking, Julie telling Austin condoms were only 85% effective. Susan fell down the stairs eavesdropping on them and told Austin she wanted to talk to Julie. Julie denied she was having sex when she saw Susan freaking out saying "Sex kills" etc.. and said they were just discussing about a couple at school having sex and how condoms were only 85% effective. Austin and Julie went to ask Edie if she would consent for Julie to take the pill. Edie didn't want to but the professed their love for each other and said they would have sex whether she was on the pill or not. Susan was talking to Gabby about Julie and Gabby didn't believe Julie. They went to check through her room to look for her diary and when Gabby saw a VCR, she asked Susan about it, saying young people today like the digital stuff. Susan ejected the cassette from the VCR and said "See? Just a tape" and Gabby took it, shook it and opened it to find the pills inside. Susan called the doctor and the doctor was telling Susan she was there with Julie, but then when she asked "What do I look like?" and the doctor said blond hair, she knew she was talking about Edie. Susan went to see Edie and she was really upset. Edie was being her sarcastic self and told Susan that Julie loves Austin and he loves her. Edie walks in her house and Susan follows and Austin and Danielle were getting busy on the couch. Both Edie and Susan were shocked. When Julie got home, Susan was sitting out on the steps and she held the pills up. She told Julie she was disappointed that she couldn't trust her and had to turn to Edie instead. Susan said they have a great relationship and she didn't want it messed up. Julie told her that she and Austin were in love and Susan got teary-eyed. She told Julie she wished there was a pill to protect her heart and told her about Danielle. Bree Bree saw Alma and Edie and talking and got the news that Alma was moving next door. Bree was trying to convince her the place was haunted , telling her the people that lived there before were harboring a murderer, etc... Alma told her it was too late, she was in love with the place and added "People don't come back from the dead". Bree turned to Edie and said "Don't I wish!". Bree furious told Orsen that he had to convince her to leave. He went to see Alma to ask what she was after. She told him she was after what she always has been--him. He said he will never love her, she said maybe not the old Alma but he may love the new Alma, the more confident one. She said Bree doesn't love him for him but she does, saying Bree doesn't know he killed Monique or ran Mike over, she said "I still love you, would she?" He knew she had spoken to his mom. She said she wouldn't tell Bree because Bree would tell the police and what good would he be to her if he was in jail. She said "If I thought I had no chance with you, there's nothing to stop me from telling". She kissed him on the cheek and Bree was looking out and saw that. Orsen went back home and told Bree she refuses to leave so they had to make the best of it. Alma was talking to her bird and the movers were there. Bree went over, said they needed to talk. Alma offered her lemonade. Bree asked what will it take to make her move, saying Orsen made it clear earlier he wanted her gone. She said Orsen never said that, he welcomed her and offered to help unpack. Alma then helped the movers a second and the bird said "Don't tell Bree, don't tell Bree!". Bree dropped her glass on the floor and was shocked. She went to get paper towel in the cupboard and her heel got caught and a piece of the floor lifted. She saw a pic of Monique and Orsen and a small bag. She looked in and saw all the teeth. She put the wood back in place, got the paper towels to clean and Alma came back. Bree was pale and shocked and Alma said "In time you'll see...'m perfectly harmless" and Bree left. She got home, called Orsen's office and said "Tell him to come home as early as possible" and she was holding the teeth in her hand. Mary Alice ends with "It's a dangerous world so we look for protection" - We see Bree thinking. And whether we find it in the arms of our mother, -Julie crying in Susan's arms. Or at the end of a jacket leg, -Mike laying in bed, holding his weapon. In the kiss of a sweetheart, -Lynette kisses Tom on the forehead. Or at the end of the barrel, -Bree getting the gun out of the drawer. We do what we have to to feel safe, because we know somewhere in the world there are those who would do us harm. -Alma taking out the garbage and waves to Bree who is looking out the window.
