Preview of Bachelor in Rome: The Ladies
The Bachelor: Rome – A Preview by Ashley Lundy -- 10/02/2006 It’s that time again. Time to watch 25 beautiful women shamelessly chase after the same man. This time it is a man with exceptional genealogy, credientials, wealth, and boyish good looks. Yes, folks, it’s time for The Bachelor: Rome! Join me as I take a peek at this ninth season of the series. We’ll cover it all, the new romantic location, the bachelor himself, and the bachelorettes. First and foremost, let’s meet our Bachelor.
The lucky man is Prince Lorenzo Borghese. Yes, you heard me right, a real prince! The ABC website describes Prince Lorenzo as a handsome 34-year-old cosmetics entrepreneur. He was born in Milan, lived in Paris and Rome, and moved to the U.S. at the age of five. He is currently a resident of Manhattan. His family is the world’s largest manufacturer and importer of cosmetics, skin care treatment, and bath and body products from Italy. He stays busy helping run the family business.
The most impressive part of Prince Lorenzo’s bio is his lineage. Besides being the youngest son of Prince Francesco and Princess Amanda Borghese, he is also a relative of two other rather famous Borghese’s, Pope Paul V (Camillo Borghese) and Cardinal Scipione Borghese. These two important figures greatly influenced Italian art and beautifying Rome in the 1600s. They even helped complete the famous St. Peter’s Basilica, on which you can find the Borghese family name and crest. Now, I think that is really cool. My initials and handprint were immortalized in wet cement in my parent’s backyard. Not the same thing? Okay, fine.
Prince Lorenzo’s royal parents will soon be celebrating their 40th anniversary and Lorenzo is hoping to find the same type of perfect union. Apparently, he is looking for a woman whose “vibrant personality meshes with his own, a best friend with whom he shares that special chemistry which can evolve into marriage or family.” I don’t know if those are his exact words or if ABC took some liberties. Either way, that doesn’t tell us much about the type of woman will be best suited for Prince Lorenzo. I dare say, it’s even a little cliché. Something about the words “special chemistry.”
Now, let’s discuss location. As the title suggests, this season the show was filmed in Rome. The shows website promises that we will see faraway Roman places such as the historic Forum, Colosseum, and Pantheon, the romantic Trevi Fountain, and the lush Villa Borghese – the largest park in Rome, which bears the Borghese name. Nice. The woman will swoon when they get a look at that.
It’s time to meet our bachelorettes!
First, we have April, a 23-year-old model from Chicago, IL. And that’s all we get. There is incredibly slim information given on the ladies. I can only add my own thoughts. April is beautiful, hence her profession, but she is quite a bit younger than Lorenzo. I wonder if that will be a factor. I have this impression of models being vain and spoiled. Let’s hope, for our Prince’s sake, that April is neither.
Next, we have Andrea, a 28-year-old hotel concierge from Cincinnati, OH. I love to road trip and stayed in Cincinnati recently when my boyfriend and I drove from north Texas to upstate New York. Let me tell you, the people of Cincinnati were awesome. Polite, fun, easy-going. It was my favorite stop. Add to that the fact that Andrea and I are the same age, and I’m already pulling for her.
There is Brit, a 28-year-old from Columbus, OH. That’s two ladies in a row from Ohio and they are both 28. Here’s the clincher, Brit is a beer chemist and, as a beer enthusiast, I find that fascinating. I’m feeling the love for the Ohiocites. Ohioians. Ohionites. Oh, the ladies from Ohio.
Let’s meet Carissa, a 25-year-old attorney hailing from Cattaraugus, NY. Her picture makes her out to be a little homely looking. Although, that may be a quality that Lorenzo likes in a potential partner. Then again, being Italian and living abroad, I’m sure he has seen some exotic looking beauties. I wonder if Carissa will keep his eye.
Next, we have Claudia, a 22-year-old restaurateur from Boca Raton, FL. Wow, that is young to already be running your own business. She must be a hard worker with big ambitions. She’s pretty and her picture looks fun. I worry about the 12-year age gap, but I think Claudia stands a real chance to get past the first big elimination.
There is Desiree, a 22-year-old realtor from Salt Lake City, UT. Of course, the big question I have is if she is a Mormon or not. Even if she is, I doubt that will be a problem, unless Prince Lorenzo has strong religious views against it.
Then we have Ellen, a 30-year-old realtor from New Haven, CT. Another realtor, but not from Salt Lake City. Since Lorenzo moved to Connecticut at the age of five, they already have something in common. I like Ellen’s smile. She looks like a warm, caring type.
There’s Elyse, a 27-year-old physician from New York City. She is in a respected profession and probably used to people listening to her. I wonder how she will handle the competitive cattiness of the other ladies.
Next, we have Erica, a 23-year-old socialite from Houston, TX. Ah, a fellow Texan. Unfortunately, I like Erica the least so far. I mean, isn’t socialite just another way of saying party-goer? I would think that Lorenzo is looking for a real go-getter. Perhaps, someone who wants more than to be socially prominent. But, hey, what do I know?
Then we have Gina, a 28-year-old ultrasound technician from Chicago, IL. Her picture is cute. She has a sweet smile and pretty eyes. That is the grand total of my first impression of Gina.
There is Heather, a 34-year-old registered nurse from Aliquippa, PA. She is the oldest bachelorette and the same age as our Prince. I hate to say it, but she looks older than 34 in her picture and her dyed-blonde hair is tired. I think she will be one of the first ones gone.
Next, we have Jami, a 27-year-old event planner from Galveston, TX. I have known a few event planners, and they were some of the busiest people I have ever met. They all had a knack for telling people exactly what they want to hear. I wonder if Jami has the same talent.
Then we have Jeanette, a 23-year-old teacher from Bloomingdale, IL. Jeanette is one of the few brunettes this season, which leads me to believe that Prince Lorenzo likes the blondes. Still, I think Jeanette is quite lovely and since teachers are usually sweet, I see our bachelor taking a liking to her.
There’s Jennifer, a 24-year-old teacher from Pembroke Pines, FL. We have a brunette teacher and a blonde teacher. We have a brunette realtor and a blonde realtor. What wondrous selection! What I thought of Jeanette can also be applied to Jennifer.
Next, we have Jessica, a 25-year-old assistant buyer from Charlotte, NC. I’ve always wanted to be a professional shopper. Lucky girl. She has a sort of exotic or ethnic look to her that I think will attract our Italian Prince.
Then we have Kim, a 27-year-old interior designer from Long Beach, CA. I think Kim is a blonde goddess in her picture. If Lorenzo likes blondes, I bet he’ll love this one. Usually, interior designers are very opinionated. They have to be in their line of work. I hope Kim doesn’t stick her foot in her mouth.
There’s Laura, a 29-year-old dolphin trainer from San Diego, CA. Oh, Dolphins! I love dolphins. She’s probably in good physical shape with all the swimming she has to do. I bet she is also very patient because training requires that she be. I have no predictions about Laura or her compatibility with Lorenzo. I just want to swim with the dolphins.
Next, we have Lisa, a 25-year-old marketing manager from Portland, OR. Lisa’s picture is adorable but she may have the deck stacked against her because she is a brunette. I know marketing is a cutthroat industry. I’m sure she will have no problem handling the competitive side of this dating show.
Then we have Meri, a 27-year-old attorney from Biloxi, MS. She seems to be our only redhead, although not our only attorney. The red hair is a good way to be separated from the other girls. Lorenzo should easily remember her during deliberation time.
There’s Renee, a 30-year-old broadcast marketer from Baltimore, MD. She does not look thirty years old, but, rather, much younger. So she has the advantage of being older and wiser, but not looking it. She’s also blonde. I see good things for Renee.
Next, we have Rita, a 29-year-old policy advisor from Richmond, VA. I wonder exactly what type of policies she advises. I immediately assumed it was for insurance. I notice that Rita looks older than Renee even if she is younger. She is also the only woman with her hair in a ponytail in her picture. I am getting a strong independent woman vibe from Rita. Not a bad thing, but I think she will tire of the competitive aspect. Or maybe we are looking at the psycho of the season. I really can’t put my finger on what it is I don’t like about her.
Then we have Rosella, a 27-year-old make-up artist from Chicago, IL. Another lady from Chicago. They must have don’t some recruiting in Chicago for this season. Rosella is also a real looker and I’m sure the other ladies will enjoy having a make-up artist around for tips and ideas. She, too, has an exotic look about her. I’m not sure what type of name Rosella is, but she may also be Italian. I think Prince Lorenzo will take an immediate liking to her.
There’s Sadie, a 23-year-old publicist from Carlsbad, CA. She has a sort of fake look to her, like she might be a real witch. Needless to say, I am getting a negative vibe from Sadie. I will have to wait and see her in action to make a final decision.
Next, we have Sarah, a 30-year-old journalist from Nelson, British Columbia. She has the exotic look going on in spades. She also looks younger than her age, but I don’t much care for the dark roots in her hair though. Sarah seems confident and sexy. I see a real tigress in her. Ladies, watch out for Sarah!
And finally, we have Tara, a 24-year-old realtor from St. Augustine, FL. How many realtors does one dating show need, I ask you? Tara also has the homely look nailed, and I don’t like her squinty eyes in her picture. She will have to have one smashing personality to stand out against the many other realtors. And blondes.
Well, there you have it. An introduction to Prince Lorenzo Borghese and all the lovely ladies of the ninth season of The Bachelor with my first thoughts (or lack thereof) of each of them.
