Paula
Why is it that when someone is horrible, she goes on and on and finds things to tell them they did wonderfully to avoid telling them they sucked, but when they're good, she barely says anything. Last night, she went on and on gushing about Anthony (when we all know he sucked) and then after Nadia's performance, I think she said something like "you're wonderful". Thanks Paula. Your critique truly is worthless!

What about her obsession with Constatine. Saying she's falling in love with him and that if she could she'd give him a hug. Yuck. Talk about favoritism!!!!! And why can't she stay seated. She doesn't need to stand up and encourage the audience. Also, behind Randy's back she was encouraging the audience to Boo on one of his comments. She would be pissed if they did that to her. She's so biased it is making me ill.

Re: Paula Abdul
Does it really matter what Paula says or does on the show? No one really takes her serious. I doubt if she has the power to influence anyone's vote.

Brinna- 04-06-2005

Yep, Paula's influence is pretty much over once the final group is selected. However, we still have to listen to her...and she gets worse in the finals!

I don't know if Paula's comments influence anyone, but look at how many people like Constatine. I think he is overrated. On some of the RTVP posts people have complained about how rough Simon is on the contestants and how they think he influences people. None of them influence my opinion of the contestants, but there are those who can not make decisions on their own and probably do use the judges comments to help them decide. Those people are just lemmings.

Some people will vote FOR someone that Simon has been particularly brutal to just to spite Simon. Everyone knows that Paula gushes about all the contestants, no matter how awful, so her praise has no effect either way.

Simon's made it pretty clear who he wants in the finals and I also think the voting is a backlash against him. He should try using some reverse psychology and really start praising the ones he wants to have eliminated.

Simon shouldn't be so surprised and shocked by who is and isn't in the bottom three. His brutal comments are basically saving Anthony, no matter how bad he is! You'd think Simon would have gotten the hint by now...but I think he just loves to trash certain performers.

I wish they would just skip Paula when it comes to the critiques. What's the use of listening to her? We all know she's not going to be truthful.

pika- 04-07-2005

I agree that some people may be voting for contestants to spite Simon but I don't think he should change the way he critiques contestants because of it. If the audience is going to be so petty that they'll vote a total loser American Idol just to stick it to Simon, then they need to get rid of the audience voting and let the judges determine the winner of American Idol. Personally I wish they would do that. Perhaps the audience could still vote and the judges could take their picks into consideration but the final choice should be made by the judges, IMO. And they need to replace Paula with a judge who's opinion actually means something.

People pick their favorite "star" for various reasons. Maybe a favorite singer is a favorite singer strictly because of their voice or performance ability. They may also like someone because of their personality, political beliefs, lyrics to a song, or basic attractiveness. So, it stands to reason that American Idol voters will vote the same way. It's a competition for who can attract the most followers and sell the most albums, not necessarily who has the "best voice"--and clearly, who has the "best voice" is wide open to debate. I never liked Fantasia and can't stand to hear her sing (or scream), but apparently lots of others like her for whatever reason. While voting "against Simon" rather than "for Anthony" (or whomever) is sort of lame, it nonetheless factors into the equation when choosing a personal favorite, at least for some people. So vote however you want, America! Just be warned: if Vonzell is in the bottom 3 again, I will frown in the general direction of each and every one of you!

You're right, again, but I still have a hard time accepting it when a clearly superior singer/performer does not do as well in the competition as more inferior contestants. I never liked Fantasia and can't stand to hear her sing (or scream), but apparently lots of others like her for whatever reason. So far, I haven't agreed with any of the Idol winner selections. I've always been rooting for someone else. Now, pretty much all of the other ones I would say are worthy of winning. Okay, Anthony would have to be perfect the rest of the season, but he isn't as bad as Scott. I vote based on consistency and charisma, and I don't think anyone has been as consistently good as Vonzell. I can't think of a time that she has bombed, and her stage presence is better than Carrie's, though Carrie seems to have more command of her voice.

If this season we are getting Drug-free Paula, I say give her back her meds!! OMG!!! The way she was crying over Constantine's departure and then hugging and commiserating with his mother!!! Paula, you are embarrassing!! Not to mention unprofessional! Aren't the judges supposed to be relatively unbiased?? You know the producers deemed it "good" (?) television because after the results were announced they zoomed in on Paula and we didn't see Randy or Simon at all. Of course Ryan aided the cause by going straight to her for "reaction". Can we vote Paula off the show??? PLEASE????

Kitri- 04-28-2005

Paula set herself up for the fall by saying Constantine was the "one to beat." Well, apparently America thought otherwise....
