Leg 7 (April 5) Since no one else has posted an episode summary and Brad is gone this week, I've taken it upon myself to summarize the episode. I will apologize upfront for not including quotes.
The leg began at the campsite in Botswana where they ended leg 6. The first clue told the racers to drive to the water tower in Sankuyo Village, about 189 miles away.
The order that they left was:
Ron and Kelly
Rob and Amber
Uchenna and Joyce
Lynn and Alex
Meredith and Gretchen
Brian and Greg
Gretchen continues to impress me with her positive attitude! Throughout this leg, the teams were driving through the African countryside and seeing wildlife such as ostriches, elephants, zebras, and giraffes. Most of the teams seem to like seeing these animals in their natural habitats and marvelled at their size...except Rob. Amber oohed and aahed but when ostriches got on the road Rob just yelled "Get out!"
As they raced to the water tower, Lynn and Alex passed Uchenna and Joyce who were slowed by a passing herd of cows. Meredith and Gretchen were having difficulties but finally got their bearings. Unfortunately, Brian and Greg got lost. They found a water tower and one of them (I have never been able to keep these two straight...sorry.) began climbing it before the other determined that they weren't at the right water tower.
At the water tower, the teams encountered their first DETOUR. The choices were "Carry it" or "Milk it". In "Carry it", teams had to carry three items on their heads with out using their hands to a cooking area. One of these items was a large (sort of flimsy looking) bucket half filled with water. In "Milk it", teams had to choose a goat from which to obtain 10 ounces of milk.
Ron and Kelly first chose "Carry it" but then switched to "Milk it".
Rob and Amber saw Ron and Kelly milking and chose "Carry it" but when it became clear that Ron was no good at carrying items on his head, they switched to "Milk it".
Lynn and Alex arrived and first chose "Carry it" but then switched to "Milk it".
Uchenna and Joyce chose "Carry it" and were the only team able to successfully complete this task. Uchenna was great at it. Not only could he do it, but he was fast and gave his wife encouraging advice on how to do it like he did. They were able to get back in front of Lynn and Alex.
The last two teams, Meredith and Gretchen and Brian and Greg, both chose "Milk it". Brian and Greg had a lot of ground to make up.
The clue the teams received when they completed the DETOUR sent them 21 miles to the banks of the Khwai River.
Uchenna and Joyce were really appreciating the scenery.
Lynn and Alex had car trouble and ended up getting a replacement vehicle.
Gretchen and Meredith got lost after asking villagers at the DETOUR where the Khwai River was and being misdirected. It was hard to tell if it was because the villagers didn't understand Gretchen or if Gretchen got mixed up from their rather vague direction wave.
The teams had to complete a ROADBLOCK which required them to navigate their vehicle through "croc-infested" water, remove a marker post, and then remove two logs which had been knocked down by elephants and were blocking the road. None of the women attempted this roadblock. Alex chose to do it before he realized he'd have to drive and he doesn't know how to drive stick. Lynn had to coach him the whole time.
The roadblock produced a lot of problems:
Kelly got royally ticked at Ron for telling her to "Shut the f__ up!" but when she raged at him he didn't know why she was made and didn't remember saying it to her. Kelly was being a real drama queen this leg. She also turned to the camera to make the point "It's a record. Ron is pointing out everything that Kelly is doing wrong instead of Kelly telling Ron what he's doing wrong." Ron was getting annoyed with her.
Lynn and Alex got a flat tire and had to get another replacement vehicle.
Uchenna and Joyce got all the way to the Pit Stop before finding out that they missed a step in the roadblock (remove the post) and had to go back to do it. They were shocked and noted that this "could be costly".
Meredith and Gretchen didn't get the clue and just followed the markers to the pit stop so they had to go back for the clue.
It appeared that with all the problems that all the teams were having, Brian and Greg should have been able to catch up.
The final order at the pit stop - Khwai River Lodge - was:
1. Rob and Amber & they won a 5 day trip to Monte Carlo
2. Ron and Kelly
3. Uchenna and Joyce - twice
4. Lynn and Alex - only because Meredith and Gretchen had to go back for the clue. Lynn and Alex's reaction to being told they were in 4th place was an incredulous "WHAT??" They had been certain they were going to be last so they put on several layers of clothing in case Phil told them they wouldn't be eliminated but would have to give up everything except their passport and the clothes they were wearing. Phil warned them that the African Fashion Police might arrest them.
5. Meredith and Gretchen.
6. Brian and Greg - they were eliminated. They were thinking sort of along the same lines as Lynn and Alex but instead of putting on lots of clothes, they chose to put on swimming trunks, hats, and one brother had a scarf. They thought they'd dare Phil to make them continue the race with just the clothes on their back in this ensemble. Either that or they'd "go out in style". Phil was almost speechless but did find the words to eliminate them.
I, for one, am sad to see the brothers leave. The initial getting lost finding the water tower doomed these two.

That was great, Brinna! Perhaps you and Brad might want to take turns writing recaps in the future.

YAY! Rob and Amber are still in it!!! WOOHOO!!!
Hated them in Survivor, but for some reason I LOVE them in this race. I so much wanted to hate them, but I can't. They truely work well together! No flaming each other, pushing, shoving...being an overall ass. If they win, they sure deserve to win!
K..off to watch the show now. I just got home and had to come and see how pissed off I'd be at the end. I really wish it would have been Ron and Kelly. I DO NOT like the little soldier boy.....can't stand him....wanna slap the mess out of him. Egomaniacal jackass that he is.

I kept waiting for the brothers to step their game up....guess that wasn't going to happen. I was sorry to see them go.
Meredith & Gretchen just keep on going.

Why do you think Ron is an egomaniacal jackass?? He's my favorite player! Though I've been kind of hoping that a croc would eat Kelly and he'd continue the race on his own.

I wonder how far behind Meredith and Gretchen the brothers were. It looked close, but you never know with editing. I have always wished they'd put the time on the screen so we could know. Anyway, if it was close, it may have been a costly mistake to stop and change into swim trunks, etc.
Ron and Kelly seemed to just fight and bicker the whole episode. I think they missed most of the beauty and wonder of where they were because they were in foul moods. They came in second, but they didn't seem to celebrate. Every other team seemed to get along much better with each other than these two.

Was I hearing things, or did I hear Lynn or Alex say that Uchenna and Joyce were born to carry things on their head?

Yeah they did ..... it ticked me off when I heard it...then I started wondering if maybe Uchena had been talking about how his father is from Nigeria...and he mentioned how he'd seen them doing this many times.

Even if so, that was still a crappy thing to say.

As much as I dont really like Rob as a person, judging only on what Ive seen of course, I cant help but enjoy them in this race. They look like they are genuinely having fun, and doing well and they arent even cheating, being sneaky yes, but not cheating. And they are getting along very well so far.
Lynn & Alex...dont care for 'em but I have to admit they dont bitch at each other like some other teams. I got a kick out of the one putting all his clothes on. I had no clue why he was doing that at first, but it was pretty smart.....just in case.
I dont think I could have resisted not stopping to get a closer look at all those animals. That had to be the coolest part of the race so far.
Kelly should be feeling like an ass today, after seeing the show and seeing how Ron did NOT tell her to shut the F up. She was so bitchy to him this week....and she really needs to wear a bra, that was not a good look for her. It looks like next week they are in India, I hope Kelly has to get on one of those crowded trains and someone touches her butt

I thought that last night too, but it could have easily been edited that way. Who knows.

Yes I agree....I was sitting there like this  when I heard it.

Okay, I've figured out the perfect ending to this show! Rob and Amber and Lynn and Alex in final 2. They're neck and neck for the full final leg, and then there's a race to the pit stop, they're running running running, Amber is in the lead with Alex a close 2nd, Rob is in 3rd and Lynn is gaining on him .... Rob sticks out his foot, down goes Lynn, Alex stops and runs to Lynn to make sure he 's okay, and Rob books it to the mat with Amber!!!

No need to take turns.
Brad, you're fired. Brinna, you're hired.
(Oh, wait, I'm not in charge around here! OK Pika, we'll go with your idea.)

Yay! Someone else who doesn't like Ron.
