Last Comic Standing Returns To NBC
Despite getting canceled almost two years ago and having the third season finale yanked off the air only to be shown on cable tv, Last Comic Standing will be returning to NBC this summer. Hopefully this new version will be more like season one and two and not anything at all like season three. Also coming this summer to NBC is a new reality tv show called Treasure Hunters in which teams face challenges as they travel to historically significant locations on a quest for a treasure. No word on whether or not NBC will be bringing back Next Action Star.

Re: Last Comic Standing
The debut of the return of Last Comic Standing was on Tuesday evening. Did anyone watch? Does anyone care? I didn't watch, I'm still mad at NBC for taking a great show and turning it into the mess that was LCS3... and then cancelling it one episode before the finale. Therefore I will be boycotting this new season by not watching. Anyone else with me?

I watched last night. I was happy with the comics they ended up choosing so I'm hoping that means I'll approve of who they choose as the winner. I was worried at one place they did auditions because they were only sending two people through and there were two I especially liked. They both ended up making it. I only wish I had recorded the show so I could go back and watch it again. Right now I have no early favorites.

I thought it was ironic that they kept saying how great this show is for comedians and how much it helps their careers. They had the winners from seasons 1 and 2 (John and Alonso) talk about how much LCS has really helped their careers and given them opportunities they would not have had otherwise. Blah, blah, blah. NO mention of the fact that season 3 wasn't even finished. They talked as if this is one of the highest rated reality shows and this fourth season will be even better. Whatever. I couldn't understand why they gave "Buck Star" so much air time. He showed up at every audition location and they let him perform in the audience attended round twice. Yet both of the judges think he's horrible (He is.). Why not just throw out that footage? Are they trying to make him the William Hung of comedy??

I watched it. I only ever saw the tail end of the first show. I liked most of who they picked, but thought a few got left out in the cold. Out of the women I liked who got in, with the exception of the college girl who told the joke about her father and pics  . Just didn't like her. I thought the other young girl would have made it. The one with the gay father.

I'm just watching this show for the first time ever (it just sort of came on after something else and I didn't change the channel) but I'm actually enjoying it. I'll probably keep watching it for a bit and see how it goes.

I watched it last night, too. My favorite comic was Chris, the guy who ran out of time before his last joke. I also really liked Roz, the black lady who was talking about prostitutes, Saleem, the black guy talking about his white wife, Josh, the guy with cerebral palsy, and Jackie, the lady who had jokes about her dad. The comics we get to vote on this week are: Nikki Glazer Jackie Kashian Doug Mellard Tig Notaro Willy Parsons I liked Nikki's bit about the cuss jar but I have to vote for Jackie. I liked her better overall.

Re: LAst Comic Standing
I have no idea what the show is like this season. For those that are watching the show, Is Last Comic Standing going to be like the first two seasons? Are the comics going to be living together in a house and then competing against each other in challenges? Or is it going to be more like the ill-fated All Star LCS season where it was more of an American Idol type show and the audience voted each week?

pika- 06-07-2006

I believe they're eventually going to be living together and competing. I'll let you know as we find out more.

Beacho- 06-08-2006

I watched too, there were some I really liked that made it and some I thought shouldn't have....there was mention of a house but I guess we will see.

They'll have challenges and the comics themselves will vote for who goes to the head to head competition and the audience then votes for their favorite and the loser is gone.

Did anyone watch this last night. I'm so glad that one older lady got in. I liked her and would like to see if she's any good. Same thing with the big guy. I told hubby he was going to be the fan favourite. I think it's the giggle

I watched last night but I don't remember people's names and it seemed like an awful lot of the guys I thought were funny didn't make the cut. I'd have to watch it again (I recorded it). I didn't like the blonde lady that got called back in the second part, the one who had a joke about shaking it like a baby that won't stop crying. That's a terrible thing to joke about and just not funny, imo. I didn't care for her routine.

I know, I can't remember anyone's names...I found a bunch that I thought were funny in the first show, just not cutting it tonight. But then again, we don't get to see the whole 3 minutes. But you would think they'd show the funniest moments out of their bit. I didn't like the pregnant chick.

Last Comic Standing 4, Episode 4: Five Plus Five Equals Twelve by Dale Sherman -- 06/14/2006 The final twenty comics come out to be whittled down to five for the final ten. Or maybe more? Yep, you can’t have shake a reality show with a bunch of twists falling out, and one pops up tonight on LCS4. What’s the twist and who will make it? Click here for details. We’re back for the second half of the Semi-Finals as Episode 4 begins this week. For those who want details on who performed in Episode 3, as well as details on the celebrity talent scouts, who won the first online vote and more, check out our recap here. The second week of LCS4 got a 4.0 rating and an 11 share in the 18-49 demos, making it the number 1 show for June 6 in the heavily-contested demographics. It may not have been the number 1 show for the night (in fact NBC came in third after CBS and Fox), but it’s still showing healthy signs for the network and certainly better than some of the other programming NBC has been running this season. As with last week’s episode, I’ll be giving the comics a rating based on a * to *** rating: * = Okay, ** = Pretty Good, ***House-material. Since we’ve already covered the setup of the semi-finals and who the judges are last week, let’s just step right into the proceedings for Episode 4, shall we? (Yes. Why, yes, we shall. Yes.) Anthony Clark comes out to introduce the show and the celebrity talent scouts, with Tim Meadows throwing out treats to the crowd. Nice touch. The first comic out is Gabriel Iglesias, who talks about being stopped by the police as he’s heading out of a Krispy Kreme drive-through. Yeah, you know where the punchline is heading, but he has a good setup for it. ** ½* Kristin Key continues from her earlier seen set in Episode 1 in discussing being thin. Garry Marshall believes she has perfect delivery, but thought one joke could have been better if told from a different point of view. Key saves the moment by throwing in her “Mr. Burns” joke from Episode 1, which goes over well with the crowd. So far, so good. **½* Moody McCarthy talks about music and computer. I can’t point by finger on why, but everything just flies past me with McCarthy and I just don’t get into it. * Ty Barnett parallels how the government works with that of a pimp. He has a great, smooth style that helps the material along. **½* Nikki Payne brings up her lisp and how it’s not good for sex hotlines. After a gag about Jerry Springer and showing her breasts to resolve an argument (as guests on Springer’s show frequently do), she brings out a prop and duct-tapes herself. Kathy wonders how she pulls the tape off and Nikki does a great job in explaining that she just pulls it off. “…It … it hurts ….” In an odd question, Garry asks if she really has a lisp or if it is just a character. Nikki jokes that the lisps and duct-tape was what brought her to Hollywood. Best of the night of the comics, really. *** Malik S., who was great in Episode 1 with his material about weighing the same as his nieces and nephews, does a good bit about gas changing things for people, including gang members. **1/2* Brendon Walsh talks about high school. He is okay, but there have already been a large number of comics that have gone over better and he appears to know it. * Josh McDermott begins with a look at fishing’s “catch and release” and then morphs it into bigger and stranger things. I liked this guy in Episode 1 and he doesn’t disappoint me here. ** Bruce Fine reprises a joke about his height and then looks at grocery store free samples. It’s steady, strong material and he comes off well. ** Working out is Rebecca Corry’s bit and she seems to excel in doing whole sketches on stage from what we see tonight. She’s pretty good at it, but such sketches not only take time to set up but tend to not go over well in short sets. She does surprisingly well, however. She mentions in the Q&A portion that she once got candy from Garry Marshall when trick-or-treating with a group of kids. There was the obvious joke to be told about an old man giving a young girl candy, but they manage to swerve around that. ** Jon Fisch mentions out putting an address tag on your luggage is like giving a thief a free sample of what to find at the house while you’re gone. Clever stuff and Jon has bumped up to *** in the group for me. Bil Dwyer reviews being married to a woman and what singles are like. It’s steady, slightly better than average material that Dwyer handles like a true vet (which he is). ** Stella Stolper (or just “Stella,” as she is called by Anthony when being introduced) talks about being pregnant. It is surprisingly flat and not as good as her stuff from Episode 1. * Mike Bocchetti delivers a group of one-liners and it may be the death of him on the show. They are good gags, but nothing concrete to connect to him that will make the judges remember him. Shame, as there is some good stuff here. * Gerry Dee reviews his career as a high school teacher, which we find out in the Q&A section was a real career for him. It appears that he’s a better comic than teacher. ** Flip Schultz begins with a bit about Latina women that appears to be there to just show off his acting chops, more than being funny. The botox follow-up is just okay, unfortunately. * Michele Balan talks about being old. The editing is very odd in her set and there just isn’t enough to say whether she was great, good, or bleh here. *½* J. Chris Newburg brings out the guitar and it appears that he probably works best in a set where he has 20-30 minutes to work within. The song goes on a bit too long for a three-minute set, but it leads into a very nice bit about kids on a plane that makes me like the guy a lot more. ** Dan Levy wonders what could be worse than a girl cheating on you, and how wonderful it is buying condoms. Pretty effective. ** The final comic is Doug Benson, who has a brilliant running segue in his act that involves … well … segues. At first, I don’t know if I am going to really care much for him – as he had to spend time setting things up – but he kills me with the material and it is obvious that at least Tim Meadows is dying in laughter while watching it as well. Very clever stuff from Doug, and another of my favorites from tonight’s show. **½* As the cast waits to find out which five would move on, I come up with my own list: Nikki Payne Kristin Key Gabriel Iglesias Jon Fisch Doug Benson With Malik S. and Ty Barnett as my runners-up. The five picked to go to the Queen Mary next week are: Gabriel Iglesias (who also won $1,000 as Capital One Audience Favorite) Bil Dwyer Michele Balan Stella Ty Barnette Before the comics in the back begin walking out, however, Anthony Clark says that there is a twist. Well, of course, there had to be. It’s a reality show, after all. The twist is that the judging was so close that they decided to add two more comics to the group to make it twelve who move on to the Queen Mary. The two additional comics are: Kristin Key Rebecca Corry Looking back, if the runners-up that I had are included, I guessed three right. I’m very surprised that Nikki Payne didn’t make it, especially considering the number of awards she has won as best comic recently. I’m not upset over Dwyer and Balan making it, as they seemed fine (even though Balan was edited pretty harshly here) and Corry grew on me, but Stella seems like an odd choice. Let us just hope that there was something edited out of her material from the show that made her comedy gold and not just a thought from the judges/producers of “oh, she’s pregnant, think of the drama!” Overall, maybe not everyone I wanted to see making it (heck, Klaus didn’t even come close), but not a bad run of comics for the remainder of the show. Speaking of comics that didn’t make it, Wild Willy Parsons won Week 2’s online vote. Congrats to Parsons and we’ll be seeing more of him in a few weeks when he goes up against Kaitlin Columbo and three other comics to find two that will appear in the next to last episode of the series to see who is the best of the online comics. Meanwhile, this week’s picks are: Mike Bocchetti Gerry Dee David Huntsberger Nikki Payne Saleem So if you weren’t happy with one of these five not making it to the house, now is your chance to show your opinions.
