Janu / Jeff
How is what Janu did last night....other than Probst talking her into laying her torch down...any different from Jeff asking to be voted out. He was insistent about being voted out when everyone else wanted to keep him and vote Kim out. It seems the only difference is that the producers didn't care whether he or Kim went. Does anyone think that Probst pushed him? I realize that the circumstances are different, but overall 2 people wanted to be voted out.... Your thoughts?

Jeff (Probst) asks lots of questions in the Tribal Councils, and we don't see the entire thing. It seems that he pushed Ulong into answering similar questions about Jeff, like "why keep a guy who is physically hurting the team". Ultimately, the tribes and or players in question have to decide what to do, but I enjoy seeing Probst needle them with questions that are possibly difficult to answer in front of everyone else.

I guess with Jeff, he was hurting the TEAM. Now there really is no team anymore, it's about the INDIVIDUAL. Keeping Janu around would be a means to an end for the people who want to use her as a free throwaway vote at the end.

In the past when people just want to quit, I have heard Jeff really ream them about how there were thousands of people who would have done anything to have the chance they had, yet they were ready to just walk away. Maybe Janu was trying to avoid that, because I really think she must have known it was stephanie who was going to go and not her. She knew she was no threat and actually was a "throw away" player. She wasn't into it anymore as far as seeing the tribe use her and others. I think she knew it was amatter of this week or next, so why not now. I think it was an awesome thing she did seeing how much steph wanted to stay, and she really didn't care. I think Jeff made her see there was really no difference. Jeff has made it clear that he absolutely likes some contestants and dislikes others. Maybe he saw someone (steph) with all the heart in the world for the game sitting next to someone who said she could care less. But yes, I agree he seemed to push the issue.

Here's the bit from The Morning Show .... sounds to me like Janu decided a while before tribal council that she was going to quit. I figured as much. Showgirl In 'Survivor' Spotlight April 22, 2005 (CBS) The curtain may have come down on Las Vegas showgirl Janu Tornell Thursday night on "Survivor: Pulau" but she says her actions have left her standing tall. "I just didn't want to compromise my integrity," she told The Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen Friday. "I never did during the game, and I stood for what I believe in and that's it. I took myself out." The ailing Tornell, who quit the game when it became apparent she would not be voted out at tribal council, said she did not do it to "save" Stephenie LaGrossa, the contestant who had been targeted. While many of the remaining contestants did not get along with Tornell, and some were outright hostile, they wanted to keep her in the game because she was not a threat. La Grossa, meanwhile, was targeted because she was seen as a fierce competitor. "I threw a wrench into their game," she said, “because I think that they wanted…you know, they were going to use me as a pawn, and I wasn't going to be a pawn for anyone.” As for LaGrossa, the lone member left of the Ulong tribe, Tornell said, "We liked her. She always smiled at us during challenges. I love her. But we fought against her for so long. She was part of the other tribe. Why not keep our tribe together all the way to the end? But then they decided to take Coby out, which shocked me. And then I couldn't take it any more." Tornell called her move "a power play" and added, "I think I threw them for a loop and now they're going to have to deal with this." Tornell, who suffered with stomach problems during the entire game said it was much easier doing two shows a night, six nights a week, in Vegas, than competing in the game. Part of the problem, she said, was dealing with the many different personalities on the beach. That is one reason why her night alone on another beach, meant as a punishment for being the first to quit the immunity challenge, turned out to be a joy. She called her time alone "My own special moment” and said that is when she began to think about quitting the game. Here's what she had to say about some of her fellow contestants: * Stephenie: "She just got really emotional (when Tornell said she would be OK if the others voted her off) which is fine. But I thought, 'That has nothing to do with this.' You know? If you want something so badly and I want it in a different way, respect the fact that I want it in a different way. I respect your commitment to the whole game. Respect mine." * Katie: "Katie is a very unique individual. And I am my own person, and we're different. Obviously, that was apparent. She couldn't get along with the fact that I was always getting sick and that I was just falling to pieces and whatever. And she always had humor in her answers. So she just kind of got – I don't know, - nasty. * Coby: "The alliances were played and I think in my head I just was standing alone. And after Coby left, I was really alone."

"I threw a wrench into their game," she aid, “because I think that they wanted…you know, they were going to use me as a pawn, and I wasn't going to be a pawn for anyone.” I'd rather be a pawn than a quitter. Good move, Janu.

Good move, Janu. But that was her only strategic move. Had she stayed in the game, she would have been powerless. By quitting, she used the only power she had, which was to keep a strong player in the game that could ruin the plans of those who sought to manipulate her.

Re: Janu
What's the big deal about being a pawn? If she stayed in the game longer, she could've earned herself more money. Heck, she could've even won (well... maybe).

Re: Puppet Master
Actually, I think Stephanie putting on the waterworks show made her quit. Stephanie is the puppet master! No... wait, doesn't that title belong to Heidi?

Re: Heidi
No, I believe it was Heidi who declared herself to be the puppet master. Jon probably did as well, though. But Heidi was the first to do so.
