Impressions of tonight's show: 4/12 *spoilers* I should have started a commentary thread when the show first started but here it is a bit late. The theme tonight was songs from the year the contestant was born.
Hall & Oates were in the audience. Man, they're looking rough! Both of them look like they've either gotten too many facelifts or spent too many years out in the sun. Their faces had the shiny look that comes from too much plastic surgery or sun damage. Anyway, I was glad to see them because they're one of my favorite groups. The first album I ever bought myself was Rock and Soul Part I by Hall & Oates.
It's depressing to hear some of the songs from the year the contestants were born in and think I was in high school at that time. It makes me feel so frickin' old.
I won't comment on who sang what yet. I believe idolfan is going to be doing a recap for us later and I don't want to give everything away.

Bo, Anthony and Scott should be the bottom 3 tomorrow. Absoutely terrible for all three of them.
Vonzell and Constantine are my new favorites
Carrie really impressed me tonight. I didnt notice where she messed up on the words, so I thought she did a great job with the cover up

I thought Nadia did a great job so I couldn't believe it when the judges gave her a bad review. I wasn't familiar with the song she sang but it sounded good to me.

I absolutely can't believe I'm saying this but I loved Constantine's performance tonight. That song is a legend and he did it alright. Vonzell is awesome! I'm at the point where maybe those two for the finale!!!!
Carrie didn't do it for me tonight, she definitely does not have the hip wiggle capabilities and looked uncomfortable, but she tried to do something different so credit for that.

Constantine really surprised me tonight! Simon was right, he was "astonishing". However, I wouldn't go as far as Paula and name him "the one to beat". It was only one good performance afterall.
IMO the bottom three tonight were Scott, Anthony, and Nadia. Scott and Anthony did much better than last week but still not good enough to beat the better singers in the competition. I think Scott gave his very best attempt though and Hall and Oates liked it. Nadia looked amazing but, unlike pika, I was familiar with that song and she did a very weird rendition of it. Stictly speaking of her singing, she is capable of much better than she gave tonight. The past few weeks have shown that Nadia doesn't have as big a fan base as other singers in this competition, including (inexplicably) Anthony, so this may be the week she leaves.
What's with Bo and Constantine carrying the mike stands around?? Knock it off!! Constantine at least made it sort of look like he was carried away by his own performance. Bo looks like he's using it as a security blanket that he can't be without on stage. Bo didn't do too badly but Constantine was definitely the top rocker tonight.
Vonzell and Carrie were lovely as always and did well with the songs they chose. I certainly liked Carrie's performance more than Simon did. At times I could almost close my eyes and hear Pat Benatar.
Anwar consistently makes strange song selections but he has such a wonderful voice and knowledge of phrasing that he manages to pull them off. When it was announced that he was singing a Dionne Warwick song, my reaction was, "Oh, no!" It's not a song I particularly care for and it just seems odd to have a man sing a song made popular by a woman. The lyrics could go either way, I just think of it as a "girl's song" because Dionne sang it. I really like Anwar's voice. I could listen to a whole CD of his singing.

Vonzell and *********** are my new favorites
Welcome to the light, D!
My impressions:
Nadia - sang great with nary a constipated expression, but next week I hope she wears her pants on stage.
Bo - Sounded good to me, and the mic-stand-carrying doesn't bother me. I did notice, however, that he made many constipated faces that Nadia usually makes. Maybe a bug is going around...
Anwar - eh, he was alright. Solid, but his sound just doesn't do anything for me.
Vonzell - my absolute favorite performer again. She manages the stage and audience like no other contestant this year. I love her look, her sound, her presence. My one problem with her is the prevalence of that flirty little giggle she inserts between verses. It worked for the song tonight, though.
Anthony - I thought he sang well, but he just doesn't inspire me to buy a CD. Okay, most of them don't compel me to part with my cash. I'm just sayin...
Constantine - who the heck is this guy??? And what did he do with that wannabe that was in the preliminary rounds? This was by far my favorite song from Constantine. He's got the name, and the look, and he's getting lots of good AI pimping. He could be the next freakin' American Idol.
Carrie - great vocals! I, too, thought Pat Benatar would come sneering onto the stage. But Carrie left me wanting as far as her performance went. There is a disconnect between her and the audience. She's great for radio, though.
Scott - crappy beginning, good finish, and what the heck was with that comment to Simon??? "See, what's real is that I'm up here and there's like millions of people who are at home who didn't have the nerve to do this, so I think I rocked." Then he starts clapping for himself??? Oh, please please please send that boy home.

Just one question... how the heck can Randy say Nadia sounded "pitchy" in spots when just 10 seconds earlier he said that he didn't know the song? :? Whenever I hear a song I don't know, I can only tell if I like the song or not. Not whether it was done well or not.
Also, I think Constantine could have sung the phonebook tonight and Simon would have said it was awesome.

Pitchiness means the tone of voice wavers in and out of tune. You don't have to be familiar with a song to be able to tell when someone can't hold a note in tune. If their tone is too sharp or too flat for the key they're singing in, you'll be able to tell if you know the song or not.

well I missed Nadia, Bo and Anwar. I thought Anthony sounded pretty good last night actually. Scott started off pretty bad and then I just tuned out (I dont like him). Vonzell was excellent, and I too thought Constantine was great. When I first heard he was singing that song I was like, he better not screw it up! He did a great job though. Carrie's constant butt sway kind of bothered me, I missed what Simon said to her...
Based on what I saw, Scott should go home

Ditto Ditto. He had by far the best performance. Then I would have to pick Bo and Vonzell. There were parts of Scott's performance that I really liked, but there were also parts that didn't sound so good, and his whole reaction to Simon spoiled all the good anyway. I hope he goes! (I really want Anthony to go but I doubt that's going to happen).

I have to agree about Connie and that really hurts me. He is still an ugly asshole.
I hated Carrie's performance but she looked good.
I think Bo was good -- he is still my favorite and who the heck hasn't heard Freebird?
La Belle- 04-13-2005
Speaking of assholes, I can not believe that scott had the balls to say what he said!
Rufus- 04-13-2005
Scott is an arrogant, smug asshole. He thinks his poop don't stink especially now after nothing happened with the story breaking about his wife beating. Ick ick ick ick!!!! I hope he goes tonight but I'm afraid Nadia will.
With Constantine I wish they wouldn't do face close-ups .... it's just ew.
And I think I commented somewhere else that Carrie doesn't pull off the sexy butt swiggle, swagger thing, she just doesn't have it. I like Pat Benetar too, but don't think Carrie pulled it off, she sounded screechy too many times.

Yeah we get it -- Scott is an arrogant, smug asshole.
He also looks like a mass murderer.
