Have you ever lived through a disaster? When I watch shows about people who have lost their home to a fire, flood, hurricane, or tornado, it horrifies me but at the same time makes me grateful that I haven't had something like that happen to me. I've been in hurricanes before, the worst being when we lost power for like 4 days and had a tree land on the fence in our backyard but we luckily sustained no damage to our house or possessions.
One of my uncles had a fire at his house from a faulty electric blanket. They had to rebuild the top portion of their house. My grandparents in Iowa had massive damage to their house and one of their cars from hailstorms in their area several years ago. Other than that, my family has been very lucky.
Have any of you experienced a natural disaster? How badly were you affected and how did you get through it? Have you made any changes in what area you chose to live in, what type of insurance you have, etc, because of it?

Nope. I thank God that Ive never had to endure any kind of disaster and I pray I never do.
I guess the closest I came was back in '79 when Three Mile Island had their little mishap. I was in 9th or 10th grade and they called us into the gym, told us they were dismissing early and why, told us to go straight home and keep the doors and windows shut. I remember going home but I dont think I stayed indoors. I lived about 30 miles from there. It never really bothered me much till I heard about Chernobyl and realized how lucky we were. Of course now with all the threats of terrorism, Im kinda doomed. Three mile Island an hour north of me, Peach bottom nuclear power plant about 20 minutes south of me and of course Im not all that far from DC either.

My freshman year of college?
My job as a telemarketer?
The great troll war at a certain board?
Sorry....those are just a few of the disasters I've lived through and none quite live up to REAL disasters.
