Re: Happy 4th Of July!
So... does anyone have any big plans for today? I'm not doing much. I'm going over to my brother's house this evening for dinner and some fireworks. I won't be staying up too late, though, because I have to get up in the morning before 5 AM.

I'm going to Tom Brown Park with some friends of my dad, Robert and Sila Miller. We're going to watch the concerts, eat (I heard there's going to be BBQ there but haven't been able to confirm it), and watch the fireworks. I'm taking my digital camera with me.

Re: Weird Canadian Guy
Check out the photo above of the Canadians on ice. I'm guessing the guy on the far left in the red gloves has major issues. And probably got beat up a lot in school as a kid.

Well, we had a good time. We were thinking about taking a shuttle the City offered to get to the park but decided to go to the park first to see if there was still room to park there. There was so we didn't need to take the shuttle. We took folding chairs and bottled water and didn't need to take anything else since there would be food at the park. We got to the park at about 5:10. The concert was scheduled to start at 7:30 and the fireworks at 10:00. It was still really hot out so we decided to sit in the shade and wait a bit before getting something to eat. Once it cooled off some, we got gyros and a blooming onion. Later on, we moved our chairs to the concert area and got shaved ice for dessert. The concert was really late getting started. It was about 8:20 before it started. The fireworks started on time, though! It was kind of frustrating when we went to leave the park because to get back to my friend's house so I could drop them off, we needed to go out to the right from the park but someone directing traffic made us leave to the left, which made no sense to me because the cars ahead of me got to go out to the right. As a result of them making some of the cars exit to the left, those of us who needed to go to the right had to cross the street in front of the park. Normally it's a three-lane road but for some reason they blocked off two lanes and were merging in traffic from the people who got to exit to the right of the park. It took us only twenty minutes to get from the parking lot to the road in front of the park but took us thirty minutes to get through the traffic there. I think it would have made more sense to have people who needed to go to the right leave through the right exit and people who needed to go to the left leave through the left exit and keep all the lanes of traffic open. They could have cleared the park in a fraction of the time it took. It was close to midnight by the time I got home. I had a good time, though, so I'm glad I got to go watch the fireworks from the park this year.

Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday. I puttered around doing laundry and finishing badge quests at Pogo. I made stuffed cabbage for dinner, took a shower and got into bed with my laptop around 8:00. Kidlets wanted to go see the fireworks and my neighbor was going so he took them with them. I just wasn't into it this year. I didn't even hang my buntings up.

Weekend Recap - Went to Atlanta for the big national fencing tournament. Got to watch LOTS of fencing and see some Atlanta sights. Then home for the 4th with kidlets playing in the backyard and meat smoking on the grill, followed by fireworks. Kit (aka Bloodybun) didn't place very high...but had fun and got to fence some wickedly good competition. He did better at foil than epee, but he's fenced foil for 3 years and this is his first in epee. Anyway, we had a great time. The boy getting ready to fence...he decided to wear the "badass bandanna." Fencing Epee - Fencing Foil - Around Atlanta...a must stop is CNN - If you're really good, you can get a shot at anchorman - On Independence Day...kids got to play in the Kiddie Pool (no extra p) - And since no one else showed up at the traditional BBQ, it was up to the smallest of the clan to finish up the ribs - Topping the day off with fireworks over Birmingham's landmark Vulcan statue- Life is good.

Love the piccies, Jay! Your kidlets are so cute! Bloodybun is so handsome and fine in his fencing attire and very kewl headband! And are you quite sure the kiddie pool had no extra p??? The baby is still in diapers, no?

And are you quite sure the kiddie pool had no extra p??? The baby is still in diapers, no?  Heh...the baby is still in diapers. And no, I'm not entirely sure it was. Which is only one reason I stayed on the sidelines.
