Episode Recap: Week 7 (4/10)
Kisses and hugs were liberally dispensed when Lenny and Lee returned to the suite after Bryce got fired. For their next task, the teams would be working with two Ace Hardware executives and an executive from the Boys and Girls Club of America as part of Ace's "New Faces for Helpful Places" program. Each team was to renovate a room in a Boys and Girls Club location. Lenny led Gold Rush to their Boys and Girls Club where the team would be renovating an old rec room. Lenny got things going by throwing out ideas for a theme. The team eventually decided to create a music room for the kids. The executives arrived to discuss the project with Gold Rush, but Lenny wasn't prepared. After an awkward silence, Charmaine jumped in to get the discussion started. As project manager for Synergy, Michael wanted to understand exactly what the executives were looking for. He asked them pointed questions when he sat his team down to meet with them. Synergy decided to divide their room into four areas: TV, gaming, a girl's area, and a music area. After that decision was made, Michael continued to nitpick on the details as time ran out: They only had a few hours left before the Ace Hardware store closed. Synergy finally got around to shopping at Ace, arriving only minutes before the store was to close. Andrea was particularly frustrated that Michael couldn't make even the smallest decisions. "Michael is such a wanker," Sean blurted, making his teammates crack up. Bill Rancic arrived at midnight to check up on Synergy. He was incredulous that they'd met with the executives at 11:00 in the morning and were just getting down to work. He also couldn’t believe that they'd spent all day debating paint colors. Gold Rush had problems of their own. Bill Rancic arrived in time to watch the chaos unfold. While Lenny and Lee were off searching for music equipment, the other three members of Gold Rush worked furiously to get the room finished in time. Things were not looking good. To make matters worse, Lenny and Lee were hopelessly lost. Synergy was calm and collected when the execs arrived to inspect their work. Michael led them through the team's vision for "The Lounge," a multi-faceted space with lots of interactive activities for both boys and girls. To test out their handiwork, a group of kids came in to check out the space. Lenny's presentation to the executives was not nearly as polished as Michael's. He stumbled and stammered over his room description, leaving the execs less than impressed. However, the kids from the club were enthusiastic as they tested the new musical instruments. The executives got Donald on the speakerphone to hear the results. They felt that Synergy understood the core idea of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America by providing lots of different choices and opportunities for teamwork. They felt that Gold Rush missed the boat by focusing on a single theme. Synergy was the clear winner of the day. For their reward, Synergy worked with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to take an 8-year-old girl on a shopping spree at Toys "R" Us. Leslie, Tarek, and Charmaine were feeling confident that Lenny would be the one to get fired that night. To help prevent this from happening, Lee tried to coach Lenny on how to position himself, but none of Lee's words seemed to get through. In the boardroom, Charmaine expressed her feelings about Lenny: He was an ineffective leader. Lenny tried turning the tables by insisting that Charmaine was hard to manage, and she was the real reason the team lost. Lenny came under attack from all corners. Carolyn thought the equipment was too expensive for the club to repair if it broke. Bill felt that he'd been poorly prepared for their meeting with the executives. Trump felt that music was a bad idea to theme an entire room around. Lee jumped in to defend his friend, but Trump shot him down. Trump went around the room, asking each candidate whom he or she would fire. Everyone but Lee said "Lenny." Lenny said he'd be bringing Charmaine and Lee back with him because he wanted Lee there as an advocate - Lee agreed wholeheartedly with his friend's decision. But it never came down to that. Frustrated with Lenny's weak leadership and the poor outcome of the task, Trump looked Lenny squarely in the eyes and said, "You’re fired!"
