Episode Recap: Week 10
While Tarek prepared dinner, he and Lee wondered what was taking Synergy so long in the boardroom. Both of them felt this was a good thing, since Synergy had been "too 'synergistic' for too long." Finally, the door opened and Synergy returned, sans Andrea. Allie was mad at Sean for siding with Andrea in the boardroom. Things became ugly as Sean and Allie got into a screaming match over this. Sean felt he was simply trying to prevent himself from getting fired, but a tearful Roxanne thought he was shattering group unity. To prove that his hair was real, Trump had Charmaine inspect it. The verdict? Trump's hair was legit. There was a serious point to all of this: Trump introduced the teams to Dennis Ratner, CEO of the Hair Cuttery. For their task, each team was to throw a grand opening event at Hair Cuttery salon. The team to make the most money would win. As project manager for Synergy, Tammy knew that one of her goals was to put out the fires between Sean, Allie, and Roxanne. At their Hair Cuttery location, they spent their first day setting up the store and going over various logistics. Sean knew that if he screwed up, he would be getting a very close haircut that week… at the neckline. Gold Rush, led by Charmaine, worked out a game plan for their grand opening. Lee, Tarek, and Michael felt that they should have a theme, and Charmaine went along with this even though she thought they were wrong. Tammy and Sean had a swell time selling together. They hugged and squeezed their way through the city as they promoted their store's grand opening. Sean was also present during Allie and Roxanne's dinner, though he wasn't in the room. Allie felt that Sean "sold his soul," was only out for himself, and that Tammy didn't want anything to do with him. Boy were they wrong. Over pizza, Sean and Tammy laughed, flirted, and shared their food. "I'm just glad I get to take you out on a date, finally," he said to her. She blushed and smiled back. Ah amore'… Things were tense back at Gold Rush's store. After Lee spent hours shelving products, Charmaine came by and told him he did it all wrong. Lee expressed concern that they were wasting time in the store when they should have been out promoting the grand opening. The day of the grand opening, Charmaine dispatched Lee and Tarek to blanket parking lots with Hair Cuttery fliers. Lee was nervous that their efforts were worthless without any face-to-face contact with people on the street. Back at the store, there were very few customers coming in. Bill Rancic stopped in to find Charmaine getting her hair done while other employees milled about, not doing anything. She complained to him about Lee and Tarek giving her a hard time. Synergy's grand opening was much more lively, with Allie and Roxanne successfully pushing the products. Carolyn stopped in to see what was going on and watched as a baby got his first haircut. In the end, the results spoke for themselves. Synergy earned $1,005.47, while Gold Rush only earned $700. For their reward, Synergy met legendary songwriter Burt Bacharach at Steinway Hall. They even got to help write some lyrics for a song going on his new album. Allie spent the time sniping at all of Tammy's suggestions. There was plenty of backroom intrigue as members of Gold Rush conspired over boardroom strategy. Tarek was convinced that Lee wouldn't do or say anything to break their bond, but privately, Lee admitted that he was done forming alliances and was only out to protect himself. A stern-faced Trump asked Charmaine what went wrong; she felt it was because they didn't sell enough product and not because she was a bad project manager. Trump then asked Charmaine why the stylists were doing her hair when she should have been out selling. Her explanation? She had to "experience" what made Hair Cuttery different from other salons. Lee felt that Charmaine wasn't a very good project manager, and Charmaine felt that Tarek was hard to manage. Michael weighed in that Tarek should be fired because Tarek was so hard to control. Trump was impressed with the eloquence of Michael's statement. The conversation soon descended into a shouting match between Tarek and Charmaine. He accused her of being a poor leader and spending too much time crying over various situations. Trump asked for the specifics of why she cried, saying that he didn't like crying; it had no place in business. The shouting match ratcheted up as everyone got into the act. Trump finally put a stop to it. He complimented Charmaine on a variety of positive qualities, but felt that her team lost because of poor leadership and bad decisions on her part. "Charmaine, you're fired!" But wait, there's more. Trump turned his focus on Tarek, telling him that he's too hard to manage and acts differently from day to day and task to task. "And Tarek," Trump said, "you’re fired!" Source: http://www.nbc.com/The_Apprentice_5/recap/week10_p1.shtml#main
