Episode 8 First Class and Cargo Class Awards The Amazing Race: All-Stars, Episode 8 First Class and Cargo Class Awards – Cookies, and Newspapers, and a Yield! Oh My!
by Sandy Lamparello -- 04/12/2007
In Episode 8 of The Amazing Race: All-Stars, our remaining five teams traveled from Krakow, Poland to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Tasks including batiking, chewing cookies, and collecting old newspapers. Kandice & Dustin Yielded Eric & Daneille. Now that this leg of racing is done, Sandy’s here with some awards.
This week on The Amazing Race: All-Stars, Dustin & Kandice recovered from their Intersection setback on the last leg and finished in first place. Uchenna & Joyce took a chance on a close connection and took so long getting to Malaysia they didn’t even get to perform any of the tasks, finding themselves in the unfamiliar position of being Philiminated.
This week’s First Class passengers are once again Kandice & Dustin. Due to the Intersection on the last leg, the beauty queens were over five hours behind the two first place teams at the start of this leg. They didn’t whine or complain about it however. They remained positive and kept their focus on the upcoming challenges instead of dwelling on what happened in the past.
Dustin & Kandice were on the third flight to Kuala Lumpur but two other teams were on the same flight so they were in a very good position. The found a local to take them to the Batu Caves and got on a train ahead of Cha3 and Eric & Danielle. They got lost briefly on their way to the mosque but again arrived first of the three teams from their flight.
At the Yield, Kandice & Dustin made the correct decision. They didn’t know where two teams were, but they knew the other two teams were very nearby. It was an unemotional use of the Yield. As for the team they chose to Yield, it was pretty much six of one, half dozen of another. Although Cha3 have been the stronger racers throughout the race, they didn’t outshine Danielle & Eric by THAT much. Unlike some teams in past seasons, Dustin & Kandice didn’t use the Yield as a way to get back at anyone. They made a smart race decision.
The beauty queens also chose very wisely at the Detour. When presented with a choice of a needle-in-a-haystack task, or a task over which the team has more control, the better choice is fairly obvious. They paid close attention to the pattern they had to batik and completed it quickly and efficiently, pulling ahead of Charm. On the Roadblock, Kandice learned how to ask for old newspapers in the native language, and once again completed the task quickly and efficiently. As a result of their focus, hard work, and good race decisions, Dustin & Kandice hit the mat in first place.
So, ladies, head on in to First Class and take your places in the comfy, oversized seats. Kick off your shoes, relax with some champagne and a hot towel, and enjoy the in-flight entertainment. If you maintain your close attention to detail for the last few legs you will be in excellent position to be the first all-female team to win The Amazing Race!
This week, Cargo Class is staying right where it has been the past two weeks. Eric & Danielle just don’t seem to want to leave these familiar accommodations. I’ve already addressed several of Danielle & Eric’s issues, so I’ll spare you the repeat of that.
In Poland, Charm were using two computers to check on available flights. Did they NEED to use both computers? No, of course not. But was it extremely unreasonable for them? No. Having two people searching meant they were getting twice as much done in the same amount of time as if one was standing over the other’s shoulder. They could double-check their information and be more certain they weren’t missing anything. And, it prevented a competitor from using one of the computers to gain an advantage on them. On the way to the airport, however, Eric & Danielle mocked Charm. OK, fine, they were upset, but really – get over it. It’s a part of the race. Acting childish doesn’t solve anything.
However, Danielle & Eric’s biggest transgression came after they realized they had been Yielded by Dustin & Kandice. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… THE YIELD IS A PART OF THE RACE! IT IS NOT PLAYING DIRTY. There, I feel better now… It would be one thing if Danielle & Eric confined their comments to their belief that using the Yield was dirty race strategy. However, they did not.
Eric proceeded to call the beauty queens “dirty, dirty hookers” and “dirty, pirate hookers.” (What does that even mean?) Danielle went on to call them something that neither recapper Jenn nor I will repeat. She then questioned their character. Oh, please, they made a good decision to use a tool given to them by the producers, and did so for the right reasons. They didn’t run Eric & Danielle off the road, or stick an ice pick in their tire, or steal a crucial part of a Detour or Roadblock task. They employed good strategy.
So, for showing a lot of ugliness, and especially for forcing me to defend Charm, Eric & Danielle, head back into Cargo Class. No blankets or pillows for you on this trip. Hope you can find a nice comfy bag to lay down on.
Next week, Dustin & Kandice v. Charm, a childish argument about touching, and some scary driving.
