Episode 6
Niels and Jennylee regroup with the two remaining teams left in the mansion, Nate/Cecille and Scooter/Megan. Nate is relieved that Jennylee has made it through two elimination rounds and vows to spend as much time with her as he possibly can. Niels and Scooter, on the other hand, use their free time to try to convince Cecille that there is more to life than physical beauty and money. Much to their dismay, the saucy beauty is not at all affected by their comments and defends her way of thinking with aplomb. In Week Six, the three remaining teams roll up their sleeves as they head to an animal farm where they must get down and dirty with their teammate. Upon arriving at the farm, the contestants must race towards a wagon which has three envelopes; Each of them contains three tasks they must complete in order to complete the mission. The first team to complete all three tasks are saved from going to the elimination round this week. The first task for the beauties and geeks is to carry five bales of hay down the hill. Niels (among others) realizes that this is hard work and not as easy as it might appear on television. It is very apparent that all three teams become more and more fatigued with every step of the task. Nevertheless, Nate and Cecille are the first team to carry all of their bales down the hill and they quickly move on to the next part of the challenge. The second task for the remaining three teams is to milk a cow and fill the bottle up to the marked line. Cecille encounters problems with this particular task because she is uncomfortable with touching the cow's udder. Scooter and Megan are the second team to milk a cow and manage to fill up their bottle faster than Nate and Cecille can with theirs. The final task of this week's challenge is to get six sheep tags and put them on a wire. Scooter and Megan are the first team to reach this part of the challenge and they work furiously to get the tags from the running sheep. Megan, very much in contrast to her usually relaxed demeanor, reveals her inner strength and determination during this important task and she is praised heavily by her teammate, Scooter. Her and her partner both manage to get the sheep tags before the other contestants and ultimately win this week's physically exhausting competition (but not without a few minor cuts and bruises). The two losing teams (Niels/Jennylee and Nate/Cecille) in this week's competition must face each other in the elimination round and are quizzed on farming, ranching, roping and riding. During the beauty elimination round, both Jennylee and Cecille show off their knowledge of the various subjects by answering all of their questions correctly. Niels has the chance to force a crucial tie-break but is unable to answer his question in the right manner. As a result, Nate and Cecille advance to the final week and face Scooter and Megan for the Beauty and the Geek competition grand prize of $250,000.

Beauty and the Geek 3, Episode 6: Why Buy the Milk… by Dale Sherman -- 02/08/2007 It’s down to three couples and they have to go to a ranch to see who gets to avoid the Elimination Room. The episode there just kinda flops around for a while before staggering to a clumsy death. Before we get into this week’s episode, NahnCee, a reader, wrote in last week to mention some discrepancies in the setup of the geeks’ challenge in Episode Five. Although it was stated the guys were being taken to a dog-park to walk their dogs, this was really not the case. According to our reader, the park used was that of “a long strip of walkway along Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica, California called Palisades Park. It runs the length of Ocean Avenue with views of the beach and the ocean on one side, and tons and tons of pricey apartment buildings and condo’s on the other side.” (Note: For those geeks out there reading this, this was nothing to do with the Palisades Amusement Park that always had ads in the old DC comics… that was in Jersey. Hey, I KNOW one or two of you were thinking it!) NahnCee went on to report that it is now an area full of rich retirees and Russians immigrants, with some of the younger joggers probably being from several blocks away. At least with retirees it explains Scooter’s actions a bit more in going after the older women than suggested on the program, as well as the Russian women being there. The main thing is that the area is not a dog-park, is full of people who are older, and not the friendliest of people who would be thrilled to give out personal information like phone numbers. Which makes the point of the challenge even more curious – not only did the dogs do nothing to help the challenge, but the guys weren’t even taken to an area where such preparations would have been met with some acceptance. But moving on. This week’s episode sees Niels & Jennylee heading back upstairs to the two remaining couples, Cecille & Nate and Megan & Scooter. Nate is thrilled that Jennylee is still there, while Jennylee admits she has almost forgotten about winning the money at this point. Meanwhile, Scooter was surprised to find out Jennylee and Nate had “gotten physical” (i.e. kissed and hugged). Later, Scooter and Niels spend some time with Megan and Cecille, trying to talk to Cecille about life in general. Cecille blows them off as expected, but – really – who cares? In the library the next day, The Man with the Child in His Eyes, Mike Richards, appears and congrats the group on being the final three couples. Cecille is seen in a cut-away interview saying how much she wants the money, but does anyone care? Richards, The Man Who Would Be King, tells them that they will all be taken out of their comfort zone by being sent to a ranch where they have to: Run to get instructions on the side of a wagon that will tell them three tasks they need to complete. Move five bales of hay as their first task. Milk a cup of milk out of the cows in the stable for their second task. And the third task is to pull tags off of six sheep. The first to complete all three tasks avoids the Elimination Room. The teams realize that teamwork is crucial, and Niels thinks Scooter & Megan are the ones to worry about as Scooter is from Montana. That’s as good as an excuse as any, really. At least he doesn’t have as much to worry about with Jennylee, who wears something somewhat practical for a ranch. He is also glad that he and Jennylee have worked past their earlier problems and are working as a team again. Meanwhile, Megan and Cecille go for “cool and cute” in their wardrobe selections and look pretty silly to the distress of their partners. But then again, since they don’t care, why should we? With the teams studying on the bus to the ranch, they arrive and immediately begin running to get to the wagon with the instructions. Cecille doesn’t because she doesn’t like to run as she points out, although no one cares. They find the instructions and head off to lift those bales – a task that they realize is a lot harder and heavier work than realized. Jennylee & Niels fall behind because of lack of strength, while Nate pulls through first by moving bales on his own while Cecille stands around not caring. They are the first to move on to the cows for milking, while Scooter & Megan follow shortly behind them. Jennylee and Niels finally get all their bales over and go to the milking, while we all discover that Cecille doesn’t know how to milk the cow (but when you can get it for free… aw, who cares?). Megan starts pumping away and she and Scooter head out the door first and on to the corral to grab tags off of sheep. Cecille & Nate finally get their cup of milk and head off as well, leaving Jennylee & Niels to do their milking. In the corral, Megan starts tackling sheep, gaining them several tags on a line before Nate & Cecille even get there. Nate starts jumping on sheep like – no, I’m not doing that gag – and they seem to be catching up just as Megan & Scooter get their final tag and win the competition. So Megan & Scooter will be one of two couples to make it to the finale, while Nate & Cecille will go up against Niels & Jennylee in the Elimination Room. And the sheep? They contacting PETA right now for the abuse they suffered at the hands of a bunch of unskilled ranch-hands. Nate mentions that he would not be happy to go up against Jennylee. He means in the Elimination Room answering questions, you. A greater concern is that the program still has forty minutes to kill. Yikes. Still at the ranch, Megan is happy to have made it to the final two, as she didn’t expect to make it that far. Nearby, Scooter and Niels hose off from the hot work. I believe we’re supposed to find it either funny, homoerotic, hot or something, but it’s really just two guys using a hose to clean-up and it’s not much of anything except a few minutes of padding on the program. They head over to a barbeque on the ranch and have some food while “chillin’.” Because chillin’ is half the battle. Go Joe! Scooter praises Megan’s hard work in the challenge, while Cecille is told that she should stop acting like someone without a brain and be the real person they’ve seen rarely but liked. This is quite accurate, as we’ve seen in interviews moments where Cecille showed she could THINK, and she has managed to win several competitions and one Elimination Room so far. She’s not a dummy; she just plays one on TV. Still, Cecille lets it wash over her without any of it sinking it. And since she doesn’t care, why should you? Jennylee and Nate hug, kiss and talk again as the viewers hug their knees and rock back and forth in mental collapse as they realize that there is still thirty minutes to go in the show. Jennylee and Nate study together for the Elimination Room, while Niels and Cecille can’t keep their hands off each other and have hot sex in the kitchen. No, I’m lying. They just disappear for a while. Evidently the producers just don’t care about Cecille anymore either at this point. In the hot-tub, Scooter paddles around in a tube while Megan soaks her feet and they talk about how they don’t envy the others going to the Elimination Room. The six get together later in the kitchen and see snacks prepared for them and a note telling them to go to the library. Once there, they sit down to watch a video replay of their time in the house and interviews that they had done. Scooter felt it was a time capsule and was amazed to see how much has changed in him during the time there. Megan regretted some things she said in her interviews about Scooter, which she now felt was rather harsh. Jennylee believes she is like another person now since the start of the program, and Nate feels similar. Cecille feels that she is cute in the video and doesn’t feel any different. That was no shock to anyone there or watching and they all move on to other things. Scooter does state however that he hopes Cecille doesn’t win because “it will be a validation of everything she says about herself,” which would be too bad because “people don’t like her.” And there’s still twenty minutes to go. In the Elimination Room, The Man, The Myth, The Legend, Mike Richards appears to give the two couples their questions. To cut to the chase – Niels blows it on the last question and he and Jennylee will have to leave. Cecille cuts in to announce some nonsense about “taking the blonde out of the bikini or ranch” or something. She messed it up while saying it and it really didn’t make much sense. Besides, at this point, knowing Cecille was going to go to the finale, viewers just didn’t care anymore and switched over to American Idol or Lost. Even though it was gibberish, everyone else is a bit offended that Cecille tried to take away Niels & Jennylee’s final moment in the house and Jennylee says she feels sick. It is stated that it wasn’t appropriate and Jennylee apologizes, but perhaps they meant that what Cecille said wasn’t appropriate. Either way, who cares anymore? Jennylee states in the final interview that she was happy she and Niels made it so far and Niels thinks they had a breakthrough and worked well together as a team. As Jennylee begins to wrap up her interview, Nate comes out and hugs her, apologizing for her having to leave. Too bad he didn’t just blow the questions to make sure Jennylee stayed and kept Cecille out of the running, but it probably didn’t occur to him at the time. Guessed he cared too much about winning the money. After all, he already stated that he didn’t want Cecille to get what she wanted in the previous episode, so helping her couldn’t be the key to him getting the questions right. So – here we are a week away from the finale and where are we? Fortunately, Megan and Scooter have turned out to be a decent little team, which Megan learning to use her smarts and Scooter getting some ideas of how to behave outside of his own little world. Unfortunately, we still have Cecille and Nate, who haven’t really learned much of anything about themselves or each other. Nate’s biggest achievement is that he got a shave and a haircut, but two-bits could have done that. Cecille just proved to viewers that some people coast through life with no sense that people just really don’t care about them or what they think. After all, if she can’t build up the enthusiasm to experience life outside of herself, then why should anyone build up enthusiasm in getting to know her?
