In Episode 6 of The Amazing Race: All-Stars, our teams traveled from Mozambique to Tanzania. Which is not the home of the Tasmanian Devil. Charm remained in first, while Teri & Ian were Philiminated after having some bad flying luck. But do either of those teams earn an award this week? Read on to find out!
This week on The Amazing Race: All-Stars, the flight gods were very unkind to our racers. Bad flight times were the direct cause of Teri & Ian’s Philimination, though they might have had better luck had they gone upstairs at the Maputo airport. By now you’ve surely read Jenn’s recap, right? I thought so. Now, it’s time for the First Class and Cargo Class awards!
First Class this week is going to Oswald & Danny (Cha3). The best friends made another very strong showing in this leg, pulling themselves up from the middle of the pack to second place. And along the way they’re being kind and having fun.
Cha3 opted not to take the risk of going with the first flight to Johannesburg, and though it put them hours behind Charm, they really can’t be faulted for that decision. Especially since only one team went for it. If every other team had taken the risk that would be one thing, but remaining with the majority of the competition was sure to keep them in the race. And, they were smart to try to find another way to get their tickets booked by heading upstairs at the Maputo airport. It worked for them, as three out of the four teams who did that ended up on the flight to Dar es Salaam.
Once in Tanzania, Cha3 were on the first dhow to Zanzibar with Charm. They tried to have fun and joke with Charm, who didn’t get their humor. Then, on the dhow, as Charla got seasick, Oswald tended to her. He didn’t have to do that, but it didn’t cost him anything. Classy all the way!
Cha3 completed the Detour puzzle quickly and efficiently, and stopped for fruit on the way to Kikungwi. While it meant they arrived at the Roadblock after Charm, it helped keep them hydrated, and having the fruit could be a bit asset on the next leg. Anything that can give an advantage to a team is a good idea, and being hydrated and having food in their bellies could be a definite advantage for Cha3. They completed the Roadblock quickly, and had they found the correct entrance to the Pit Stop they may have finished ahead of Charm. In any event, second place is just fine for this leg, especially since Cha3 have been running a very strong race for some time now. The only time it is crucial to finish in first place is on the very last leg of the race. We’re not there yet.
So, Cha3, head onto the plane and take your comfy leather seats. Kick back, enjoy the in-flight entertainment, and get some much-deserved rest. Keep up your great racing and you could be the team to beat on the final spring to the mat!
This week’s Cargo Class is going to a team that several readers told me should have received it last week. Eric & Danielle are fast becoming unbearable. Their bickering with Guido and Teri & Ian has been juvenile and completely unnecessary on the race. Eric’s “Aren’t you going to respect the line?” comment this week was absolutely ridiculous, especially considering that they were the team with priority on the flight should any seats become available. In any event, it was unnecessary for Eric to provoke another team for no good reason.
I don’t fault Danielle one bit for getting upset when they were pulled off of the plane in Johannesburg. They had an advantage over two other teams and that was just ripped out from under them. Without knowing what arrangements Guido and Teri & Ian had made she had very good reason to be upset. However, her Flo impersonation was a bit over the top. Yes it was an emotional situation, but the thing to do when you’re handed a setback on the race is to gather yourself and get to work trying to get to the next location.
Finally, when Danielle was having a bit of trouble at the Roadblock, Eric was anything but encouraging. Danielle was undoubtedly tired, frustrated, and even if she wasn’t; throwing a hammer at a thin post trying to knock a target off isn’t the easiest thing in the world to do. She needed support and encouragement from her partner and she sure didn’t get it.
So, Eric & Danielle, you won’t have to worry about anyone coming to take you off of the plane on this flight. There will be plenty of room for you in Cargo Class. I’m sure Eric running his mouth and whining about other teams will be more than enough to keep you warm, but it won’t be a comfortable flight, that’s for sure!
Next week, impatient Danielle, armor-clad Charla, and a two-hour episode!
