Episode 5: “Super Electric Charged”
The Bachelor 10, Episode 5: “Super Electric Charged” by Ashley Lundy -- 05/01/2007 It’s the fifth episode of The Bachelor! We have one group date and two individual dates. Who keeps stealing Andy’s time? Who gets the fairytale date? Most importantly, who is sticking around for hometown visits next week? Welcome back! We start out the show with Andy doing some topless exercising on his borrowed yacht. He says something about being happy to spend quality time with the final six women, but I am admiring his cuteness and don’t catch it. All the ladies pull up in the limo as Andy tells us that he’s relieved that he doesn’t have to give out any roses on his dates this week. Oh, good to know. Amber, in glasses just like mine, tells us that everybody needs to relax on “Andy’s” yacht for the day. No, no, it’s not “Andy’s” but you probably know that by now. Still, Andy shows them around. He says the plan is to kick back and have some fun. Stephanie (just Stephanie, no more “W”) says it was so wonderful on the yacht. The day was beautiful, the wind felt great, she loved the smell of the ocean. She was thrilled to be there. It was like heaven. Oh look! Some seals are hanging out on a buoy. They say, “Hi Seals!” The seals don’t really have much to say right now. Someone asks Andy what his pet peeve is. He says he doesn’t like smoking and he’s pretty low maintenance. Tessa says she hates it when someone walks with thin socks on a rug. Um, Ookay. Amber hates it when people clap in a theater. Tina tells Andy that he has something in his teeth. We all say we would want to know, but it’s always so awkward when someone tells you that. He tries to dislodge it with his tongue, but it’s still there. So, Tina uses her nail. On his teeth. That was plain gross. Amber thinks it was gross too. So, Tessa tells a blonde joke to break the ice. That girl and the jokes! It’s funny. In a different part of the boat, Andy is now sitting with Danielle, Stephanie, and Bevin. Bevin says she has been eyeing the kayaks at the back of the boat and asks him if he wants to take them out. He says sure and they start gearing up. Danielle is a little annoyed over Bevin breaking up the group dynamic. Stephanie says Bevin is too forward and is stealing all of Andy’s attention. In the kayaks, they paddle around each other and goof off. Bevin tells us that when she wants time with Andy, she is going to ask for it. Amen! That’s the spirit. Danielle tells Stephanie that today is like a big reality check that they are down to six women out of 25. She says when you have feelings for a guy, it’s hard to watch him flirt with other girls. Tessa says that some people step up to bat when things get competitive, but she backs down. That is hindering her ability to get more time with Andy. Andy and Bevin get back on the boat and have a good kiss session. Amber is tired of Bevin getting all of Andy. Among all the ladies, Andy has a wake-up call and realizes that he has feelings for many of them and it’s hard to have them interact with each other. It’s just going to get tougher emotionally. No… you think? Six women all want to marry you? That couldn’t get emotional, could it? Back at the house, a date box arrives for Stephanie. She gets the first individual date. The note reads, “Bring your palette for a night of pleasure.” She can’t wait, but she has nervous date jitters. Andy thinks the date is a great opportunity for him to get to know Stephanie. He picks her up and she looks great. They are going to a “wine place” to learn how to make their own unique blend of wine. They get to the wine place, where several types of red wine have been set out for them to try before making their own blend. That is so cool. They blend, they taste, they like. Andy says it tastes beautiful, like Stephanie. Now, they get to paint a label for their bottle of wine. They get a giant piece of paper to paint it on. It’s like four feet by four feet. They splatter wine and paint and add their names. It’s hard to describe, but it’s mostly a disaster. At one point, Andy instructs her to put her hand in paint, he does the same, they touch hands, and then put their hands to their hearts and then they kiss. That is one tricky handshake to remember. Stephanie obliges, but you can tell she is not swept away in any way. Back at the house, another date box arrives. This time, it’s for Amber, Tina, Bevin, and Danielle. That means Tessa gets the second individual date. Amber is bummed, she wanted it. So did Bevin. She wanted to share her past with Andy. She is divorced and she won’t have time to tell him before the next rose ceremony. Oh, yeah, that could get weird if she gets a hometown date. Andy and Stephanie are marveling at their custom-made bottle of wine. The label is a miniature version of their painting. Or a miniature picture of their painting. I can’t really tell. Andy tells us that he likes Stephanie, but she hasn’t opened up yet. We see him ask her about her dreams. She has many. When she gets out of bed, what’s driving her? She doesn’t know. Career and family. What is she looking for most in her career? She doesn’t know that either. Oh no. She’s giving him nothing. Does she not like him? Andy thinks that Stephanie is 23 and it could be her age causing this trouble. She’s too young to know what she really wants. Stephanie says she is upset with herself. She really wanted to open up to Andy, but she has a harder time letting her guard down than other girls. Back at the house, Amber calls Bevin down to talk about what’s bothering her. Bevin tells Amber that she is upset because she has feelings for Andy and she feels she’s at the age when she shouldn’t be interested in a man who’s interested in a woman who’s 23. She wasn’t ready at 23. Amber says that just because Bevin wasn’t ready, doesn’t mean she isn’t ready. Amber took care of her brothers and sisters, and she thinks she is totally mature. I don’t really know. I don’t really care. This is one strange cat fight. Bevin is cracking up over the situation. Andy dating other girls is humiliating to her. She could understand trying this at 23, but at 28, she should be at home dating a guy that wants to date only one girl. There is possibly a compelling argument in there, but does she remember that she agreed to do this? Besides, being daring and willing to take a chance seem like qualities that would be very attractive to Andy. Basically, Bevin, chill out. Amber’s age has nothing to do with your self-esteem issue. Time for the group date! Andy picks up the girls in a big pick-up truck to go do some charity work. They are going to help with a playground at a school in Hollywood. The girls meet Sharon from the Hollywood Beautification Team. They work at Van Ness Elementary School, helping to transform the playground into an environment that will be more healthy and livable for the children. Today they are going to make a mural and bring in some trees. The ladies are going to help Sharon. Andy loves doing volunteer work and being involved in the community. He’s looking for that in his future wife. He thinks this is a great experience to find out about the ladies. Amber loves that Andy gives back to the community. She would love to show him her class because that is how she gives back to the community. They plant some plants together. He calls her “teacher Amber” and they flirt a little. Andy checks up on Bevin and Danielle tells us that she saw a “Bevin and Andy date” starting and she knew she needed to prevent it. So Danielle shows Andy how to paint flowers. He finds out that she likes kids and asks her how many she wants to have. She says at least two so they can have siblings. He agrees. He paints a rose. She wisecracks that everything is about roses around here. Heh. The final date box arrives for Tessa’s individual date. The card says, “Come as you are, I’ll take care of the rest.” Tessa hasn’t had a one-on-one date yet. She wants to put herself out there and open herself up to him. It’s a really good opportunity to figure out if Andy and she have a connection. At the group date, they are still working away. There is a garden mural, potted plants, a big umbrella, some spray painting, and some freshly planted trees. It’s looking good! Tina tells us that she is very excited. She’s not just here for the ride, she’s here to see if she could be the one for Andy. She rambles to Andy about how the house was like high school again. He gives her a pep talk about how being “cool” doesn’t matter. Then he tells us that he loves that Tina didn’t change throughout the experience. She stayed true to herself. Andy was impressed with the ladies today. Amber did the hopscotch course, Tina did the flowers on the mural, Bevin did the painting on the ground, and Danielle was quick to help with design matters. Each woman contributed their individual strengths. The playground looks like a completely different place! The painting came out great and there are even new big wheels and tricycles. It’s awesome! Everyone is excited that the kids are going to get this great playground tomorrow. Oh, no, wait! It will be today! Andy opens the school doors and out pour all the kids! They love it and the ladies are crying. They play with the kids and it looks like a great time. Danielle loved this opportunity. It was an awesome payoff to see Andy playing with the children. We see Andy playing “Simon Says,” doing hula hoop tricks, and he looks like a natural. Andy says he wants to find a woman who will also be a good mother. He wasn’t sure how Bevin would be and he was surprised by her genuine sense of joy. He was impressed by her. Out of all of them though, Amber was most in her element. Indeed, she looks comfortable. Andy and the ladies have a big group hug and agree that improving the playground was the greatest experience. It is time for the big fairytale date for Tessa. Andy says that he wanted this date with Tessa because she doesn’t want to go the distance unless she knows he is truly interested in her. He’s ready to give his all. That’s right, make him work for it, muffin girl. He picks up Tessa at the house. He comes in to where all the ladies are chilling. He has a box in his hands and says he wants to put something on Tessa before they leave. He reveals the two million dollars in diamonds. They all gasp at the necklace and earrings. They are wildly jealous, even the ones who don’t say it. Tessa puts it on and thanks Andy. Bevin looks sick and like she’s about to cry. We’ll probably be coming back to that. Andy takes Tessa to a dress shop to pick out a dress for her diamonds. She tries on a couple of dresses for him. He likes them all. A red dress is the winner. It looks a little too much like Pretty Woman for my tastes. They go to a lovely Japanese garden for dinner. It’s raining, but they agree it’s romantic. They talk about their helicopter ride. Tessa says that she’s not jealous of anybody else’s dates. Well, rightfully so. They have some dinner chat. Andy says the conversation was easy, but Tessa hasn’t told him that she’s one hundred percent in it yet. It does sort of feel like she hasn’t made up her mind about him. Back to Bevin. Everyone is packing but she thinks she is packing to definitely go home. She tells us that if Andy picks Tessa over her then she will freak out. Speaking of… Tessa and Andy are enjoying the lovely splendors of the garden. She says that Andy is really putting himself out there and it’s pushing her to do the same thing. Tessa thanks Andy for sticking with her. She thinks he’s a great guy. They really get along and that is a big baby step for her to say that she likes him. He says his heart is full when he is with her. She makes the whole process worth it. They have a lovely kiss. Andy tells us that it may have been all the diamonds and the dress or the isolation, but he is in bliss. From this date with Tessa, he has achieved what he set out to do. Now, the sky is the limit. What a cheese! I think I blushed though, so who am I kidding? Time for cocktail hour! Andy arrives in that Lamborghini again. He says rose ceremonies are tough. His mind has been going in circles all day. He is ready for a few of the ladies to really step up and say they want to be with him. First, he meets with Amber. She impressed Andy at the charity event, but she has also shown some insecurities. He thinks she may be a little immature. Amber shows him a chocolate wrapper that she got today that reads, “Sometimes one smile means more than a dozen roses.” She just thought it was perfect for him. He thanks her with a hug. Amber tells us that she thinks her chances of getting a rose are fifty-fifty. Next, he meets with Bevin. He tells her that he loves her dress. She thanks him and gives him a kiss. She says that he seems stressed tonight and he admits that he is. She tells him that this hasn’t been as easy as she thought it would be, but she will remember it for the rest of her life. They kiss some more. Andy says that the electricity he feels with Bevin is not fading. She is so into him and he feels the same. Its “super electric charged.” Although it’s not so easy with Tina. She’s not affectionate and he’s not sure that she is into him. We see him with Tina and she talks about the playground date. He asks her about her family. She talks about her energetic mom. Next, Tessa and Andy get some time alone. She tells him that she had so much fun last night. It reminded her why she is here. She wants to do the hometown visit and continue on. They have a quick peck. Danielle and Andy are talking now. She is into him and she wants to continue. He says he can feel it. Andy tells us that he thinks Danielle is the most invested in the competition. He wonders, though, is she a life long partner or a friend? A mischievous pair, Bevin and Amber, find their way to the deliberation room. They see all the girls’ pictures and imagine Andy looking at them when he makes up his mind. Bevin wants a rose, but she is scared to tell him about the divorce. It could possibly put her relationship in jeopardy. Andy and Stephanie are again admiring their special custom-made bottle of wine before their private chat. Andy tells us that he is going to give her a second chance to open up. If she doesn’t take the chance, it could be her last. He asks Stephanie to tell him about Kansas. She tells him that in her hometown, she is the butt of all the jokes in the family. Her family may even bring out the home videos. Stephanie wants a rose and wants him to meet her family, but you never know what will happen. Chris interrupts the fun to steal Andy away to make his big decision. Off he goes. Andy says he’s an Ironman and a Navy Lieutenant, but he’s never been through anything like this in his life. It’s the hardest thing he’s ever done. It’s rose ceremony time! Andy says he’s nervous and he’s had an amazing time with all of them. It’s a difficult decision and he didn’t take it lightly. They are all so wonderful. The first rose is offered to Bevin. She accepts it and says he’s going to Seattle. The next rose goes to Amber. I guess she is mature enough. The next rose is for Tessa. No real surprise. The final rose goes to Danielle. Just like that, there go Tina and Stephanie. No more Stephanies at all for this recapper. Tina says she wanted to find true love. She was hoping it would be with Andy. Love is worth putting your life on hold for, but she regrets that she shut down. It could be her biggest regret. Stephanie says it’s hard to realize that she let her ideal husband slip through her fingers. She is too closed up. She should have done more and she’s sad to go. We close down the show with a tricycle race from the playground date. It looks like Bevin won, Tina brought up the rear, and Andy wrecked into Danielle. They all agree it was a real workout. Next week, we have hometown visits! Danielle’s family gets serious. Bevin shocks Andy with the divorce news. Tessa’s family puts Andy on the spot with some questions. Someone in Amber’s family stands her up.
