Episode 2 (9/20) After getting the recap of last weeks show, the girls claim, "We're gonna eat them alive." Trainer for the guys, Jillian is pushing the guys by telling them " This is NOT the girls team."
How much will the teams lose this week, what will be the challenge and who will go home?
The contestants get "treated" to a temptation challenge. In front of them are their silver trays with letters. Shannon notices her daughters handwriting. If they choose to eat what's on their tray, they can read their letter (from home) They have fifteen minutes to decide. All lift their covers and find some of their favorite foods (pizza, french fries, chocolate mousse). It's a boo-hoo fest. The guys see that Shannon is breaking down and Mark keeps pushing her- a letter from your daughter, she misses her mommy. (This is true psychological warfare man). It is very emotional for everyone, but they all withstood the temptation challenge. Bob commentates that they will be faced will all kinds of temptations once they leave the ranch. They have to change "their relationship with food."
We see that Kathryn's foot has been injured and Ryan is already looking to eliminate her.
We now move to the challenge were Caroline Rhea will explain to us what will happen. But first she asks Shannon, " Do you miss your family" (well, yeah Caroline ) The challenge will be to race from the shore of the lake, across a beam that narrows in the middle to the other side. If a contestant falls off, they have to swim back to shore and start all over. The team that wins will get their letters from home, plus one extra day to lose weight ( a whole 24 hours to work out some more )
During the challenge the girls have to set out one because of last week's elimination of Ruben from the guys team. The obivious choice will be Kathryn. But at first she hem-hawed around like she would actually hobble across that beam. The competition starts and before cute Suzi can get half way across, two guys have already made it to the other side of safety. She finally makes it and the girls have to pick up the pace. It's Shannon and Jeff on opposite beams and they both fall in the water. Time to swim back. At this point the guys and girls are neck and neck. They both get back to the beginning and start across. Shannon as a little bit of a lead, but she just freezes at the narrow part of the beam giving Jeff time to catch up. For a moment they both stand their trying to will themselves across. Finally Shannon sucks it up and makes two steps over the narrow section and heads for home. The girls win. Everyone (girls and guys) are cheering Jeff on to make it. He does and they have a little love fest congratulating each other.
The girls win their letters and they probably cried out a pound or two with all their tears. It was very emotional and they are all missing their families so much.
Bob congratulates the women while Jillian tells the men " these girls mean business" She then procedes to work their butts off.
It's time for the weigh in for the men. At the beginning of the week the men's total weight is 1965 lbs.
Seth 270 loses 8lbs (262)
Nick 318 loses 10lbs (308)
Jeff 352 loses 8lbs (344)
Pete 379 loses 8lbs (371)
Matt 311 loses 7lbs (304)
Mark 335 loses 10lbs (325)
Total loss for the men: 51 lbs. Remember it's all about the percentage and theirs is 2.6% total weight loss.
Next we see Jillian working the guys out (again). They are going to do a sprint against Jillian. Matt looks as if he's keeping pace with her, then down he goes! Someone call a medic. He is taken away and eventually returns with a torn quad. Mark actually says in a private interview that they know he will do whatever it takes to keep losing the weight and the team will have to pick up the slack. (We'll see how long the team's hold up with injuries).
Since the girls have the extra day, Bob is working them out hard. He tells them that they have busted a** and he is very proud of them. Let's see if the extra day has helped.
Time for the girls weigh in and even the guys think they are "lookin' good." They have decided to sit out Jen (because of the extra contestant). The girls need to have a loss of 34lbs. The total weight for the girls at the beginning of the week is 1280 lbs.
Jen 248 loses 4lbs (244) Her weight loss won't count in final tally.
Kathryn 202 loses 1lb (201)
Andrea 209 loses 5lbs (204)
Ryan 207 loses 2lbs (205)
Suzanne 213 loses 4lbs (209)
Shannon 242 loses 2lbs (240)
Suzi 207 loses 2lbs (205)
The total for the girls is 16 lbs. lost. That's great for them, but not enough to avoid elimination. ( Not even close... that extra day really helped huh )
The guys are ready to celebrate (with a HUGE slab of steak on the grill). Jillian walks in and flips her lid. She accuses Nick of sabotaging his team. She says Nick is "playing mommy" and even calls him " a wife" . Jeff, the friendly doctor, is trying to keep the peace while Nick and Jillian continue to yell at one another. She is so mad, she just walks out.
It's the first elimination for the women. They all carry their pretty silver trays and sit in front of Caroline. She's asking Ryan about friendship. They all get chocked up and it's another cry fest . Caroline even gets misty eyed. She reminds us that since Andrea has lost the most she will have immuntiy and will not be voted off.
Andrea votes Kathryn
Suzi votes Kathryn
Kathryn votes Jen
Suzanne votes Kathryn
Shannon votes Kathryn
And with four votes we don't need to see Ryan or Jen's vote. All the girls that voted for Kathryn said that "they really didn't get to know her" ( and the injuried foot and only losing one pound didn't help her). Kathryn says that she is a little" defensive and not a team player." She informs the other girls that she did NOT come there to make six new best friends.
After the show we see Kathryn has continued with her weight loss and taken up kick boxing. As of now she has lost a total of 34lbs.
