Episode 13 Missing Intelligence Award - Yau-Za!
Survivor: Fiji, Episode 13 Missing Intelligence Award - Yau-Za! by Heathyr Fields Ford -- 05/11/2007 Everyone - Boo, Cassandra, Dreamz, Earl, Yau-Man, and Stacey - made mistakes this week, some almost costing them the game. Whose mistakes were too heinous to ignore? And who in this picture get Missing Intelligence Award consideration? The answer may surprise you, and it's inside! Call me a Survivor geek if you must, but I was practically on the edge of my seat this week, chanting “please don’t be stupid, please don’t be stupid” at Earl and Yau-Man, yet I was also all “switch it up, shake them up” to the rest. I was not disappointed, that’s for sure! It was true drama and excitement, even, and not manufactured by editors and music and poorly done cutting. Yay! Drama by actual actions! Drama by the show itself! How unheard of. Begin Heathyr’s PSA Rant. Ford and CBS get honorary MIAs. Ford for producing a vehicle that no one really needs, which is a massive gas guzzler and totally environmentally uncool. How many people really need something that can carry those loads? Damned few! It’s all about “bigger is better” and that’s just crap. We have to get rid of that mentality. CBS gets it for giving the monstrosity away. Do you like those lovely environments you send people out to survive in? Want to keep them? Get greener! All of ya! Like it or not, the lowest common denominator and the average joe are influenced by what they see on shows like this, and making them believe that’s the end all of “cool” does us little good. End Heathyr’s PSA Rant. So, who does deserve a Missing Intelligence Award today? Let’s look at the final six. Boo: We didn’t see anything from him, really, other than a desire to win a truck, and another good immunity performance. He obviously went with the majority to vote out Yau-Man and rock the Earl/Yau world, but we never SAW it, so I can’t judge whether what he did was good, bad or indifferent. However, he knew he was going without immunity, and he knows Earl has been de-facto leader, so shaking him up isn’t really a bad thing from Boo’s end. It’s not like he had anything to lose, and he may gain something. Cassandra: Cassandra-Earl-Yau constituted a fairly decent alliance and final threesome. With Yau-Man’s deal with Dreamz, she could have stuck with her two buddies, brought Dreamz to final four, and then known she was guaranteed final three (or as close to guaranteed as there is in this game) because they would all vote Dreamz off. The only way that wouldn’t have worked is Boo winning immunity to make the final four, or Dreamz winning final four immunity and not honoring his deal with Yau-Man. Either way, she’s still in the final four, and probably in the final three, and she doesn’t totally look like a coattail rider, but someone who actively plotted and helped an alliance stay until the end. So, all that said, turning on Earl seems somewhat silly. Boo and Stacy haven’t shown great loyalty, and Dreamz is more fickle than a Hugh Grant character in a romantic comedy. I’m not sure I’d align with them. So, Cassandra, you are at least MIA-considered! Earl: Earl, your gut doesn’t work nearly as well as Yau-Man’s, so you should listen to him a bit more. You felt WAY too comfortable with Cassandra, and you were way too believing of Stacy’s “mature acceptance” of being booted. I considered you for this, because your trust could have reassured Yau-Man enough that he didn’t play the idol, and that would have been bad! However, you picked up right quick during Tribal Council, so I know it’s not all bedrock between the ears. You got this last week, so I’ll give you a pass this week. We’ll see if you redeem yourself on Sunday! Yau-Man: I can’t decide if you were freaking brilliant or completely idiotic to give up the car! I do believe you should have cut a better deal, such as, Dreamz gives you immunity at final four AND agrees not to vote for you until then. Plus, I can’t decide if it was good or bad to give Earl the other immunity, because having two would have been awesome. However, seeing how trusting Earl is and how tight he seems with you, even in solo chats with the camera, I think you’re okay there. If you had not played the idol, you would be winning this award today! However, your gut won out, and you played it, so you’re safe. What I can’t tell is if you were always planning on playing it, or if Stacy’s words at Tribal Council changed your mind. Dreamz: Your play has been odd throughout this game, but you’ve managed to hang in there, and you almost overthrew the main alliance this time. Kudos. I was impressed that you figured out so quickly that your deal with Yau-Man basically screwed you out of final three, but you probably shouldn’t have taken the truck. Regardless, now you have a truck, and you may still make that final three. Relax until Sunday. Stacy: You caught a break this week, but it wasn’t due to anything you’ve done, that I could tell. Instead, it was because Dreamz picked up quickly on what Yau-Man’s generous deal meant for him, and he took steps that you followed. You tried to play the meek, accepting bootee, and with Earl’s gullibility, it worked. However, you let your sudden position of power shine through at Tribal Council, and Earl and Yau-Man didn’t miss the difference. While Yau-Man may have planned to use it all along, you guaranteed it by your less-than-submissive demeanor in answering Probst’s probes. That, coupled with a entire game wherein you were unpopular, lead to your demise, in my opinion, and thus, you get this week’s Missing Intelligence Award!
