Episode 10 First Class and Cargo Class Awards
The Amazing Race: All-Stars, Episode 10 First Class and Cargo Class Awards – Let’s Make a Deal by Sandy Lamparello -- 04/26/2007 Episode 10 of The Amazing Race: All-Stars took our final four teams from Hong Kong to Macau, China. We’re approaching the finale, which means Sandy is here with the latest First Class and Cargo Class article of the season. This week on The Amazing Race: All-Stars, Cha3 had money problems but found a creative way to solve them. There was another Yield, which may have given one team a sense of déjà vu. Racers jumped off a tower, made noodles, or searched for a dragon boat. I’m sure you’ve read Jenn’s whine-filled recap (that is, there was a lot of whining to recap, not that Jenn was whining!), so it’s time to move on to the First Class and Cargo Class awards! As always, these awards are based solely on the episode that aired on CBS. As we approach the finale of this All-Star season, I thought long and hard about who should sit where. I mean, these teams are going to be there for a looooong time, after all. You may have noticed that there was no First Class and Cargo Class article last week. That was because I just couldn’t come up with enough to say to put a good article together. I faced a similar problem this week, but since it’s near the end of the season, I decided to push forward with it. So, here’s what I came up with. Riding in First Class will be Dustin & Kandice and Cha3. These two teams made one of the smartest moves in the history of The Amazing Race when Kandice & Dustin gave Cha3 money in exchange for the latter’s use of the Yield. Cha3 were in a desperate financial situation. They needed to find a way to solve that problem as quickly and with as little effort as possible. Along came the beauty queens. Dustin & Kandice could not use the Yield, having used it on the previous leg. However, they were in very real danger of being Yielded themselves. Although they were behind only Cha3 at the start of the leg, they immediately faced an equalizer when the teams had to wait for the 10 a.m. opening time. So they needed to take steps to protect themselves from retaliation—either by the team they Yielded, or the team that thought it was their business. (More about that later.) Cha3’s idea to ask the beauty queens for some of their money in exchange for using the Yield on one of the other two remaining teams was brilliant. To make it to the final four, a team must be strong and have a pretty good amount of racing ability. Therefore, any team is a legitimate Yield target. All that matters is that one team is put at a disadvantage. Kandice & Dustin were smart to give up some of their money. In a move akin to Yul’s non-use “use” of the hidden immunity idol on Survivor: Cook Islands, they found a way to put any team other than themselves as a disadvantage. And all it cost them was a small portion of their remaining cash. Very smart move on their part. Unfortunately for Cha3, they hit some bad luck later on the leg, and it wiped out both the Yield they used on Eric & Danielle, and the 30-minute time penalty that same team had due to their last-place finish. However, they were saved by another non-Philimination leg. And, thanks to their deal with the beauty queens, they at least have some money beyond what they will receive at the start of the next leg. So, Kandice, Dustin, Danny, and Oswald, head on in to First Class. I have a feeling it’s going to be a party in there on this flight! But make sure to rest, because the all-important race to the finish is almost here. Conversely, Cargo Class is going to our other two remaining teams. They would be Eric & Danielle and Charm. There is not enough space on this whole Web site to detail all of their transgressions. Many of my colleagues have detailed their immature reaction to the Yield, so I won’t repeat that analysis. However, I must ask, why did Charm even have to comment on the Yield, and make it their mission to get the beauty queens out of the race, since it WASN’T EVEN USED ON THEM?! OK, I feel better now… These two teams have been mean, nasty, hypocritical racers throughout the whole race and I’m sick of it. In fact, they’re so bad and I have so little tolerance for them that I’m bumping them down from Cargo Class to Seat on the Wing Class. So, Charm and Eric & Danielle, I hope you brought some warm jackets, and that you can hold on tight. I hope to see one of you leaving before the final race to the finish. Next week it’s the race for the million dollars!
