Comic books My sister and I had a bunch of comic books when we were younger. It's too bad we had to leave most of them behind in the many times we moved while growing up because I would have enjoyed reading them to this day and they might be worth something by now.
We got Spiderwoman, Spiderman, Richie Rich, Justice League, Casper the Friendly Ghost, and Archie comic books. I still get Archie comic books (the digest type) to read when I'm taking a bath or before I go to sleep at night.
I'm not sure if Mad magazine counts as a comic book but we used to read that and Cracked magazine, too.
In middle school I often went to the library after school, since it was right across the street, and read comic books. We kept a bunch in the car as well. My parents always let us buy some new comic books before we went on vacation so we'd have something to keep us busy during the long car ride.

Hubby and I have been comic books collectors for years, although he has collected Spiderman and others since childhood. I was hugely disappointed a couple of months ago because CrossGen Comics went out of business and most of the comics I was collecting were CrossGen titles. I was also a long-time collector of The Mighty Thor and Marvel gave that the ax about the same time that CrossGen died. The only one I have left is Emma Frost.
Between the two of us, we have 7 long boxes full and almost enough for another long box.
My favorite CrossGen comic was Sojourn and I am so disappointed I won't get to finish the storyline. That seems to happen to me a lot because I pick comics that have good storylines and good artwork. Often they are expensive to produce and the companies go out of business.

Couldn't agree with you more. There aren't nearly enough fantasy comic books out there.
Right now I'm reading Poison Elves, it's been my favorite title for years but Drew Hayes (creator) has been having serious health problems over the past few years so only a few issues come out every year.
Incredible Hulk, even though it hasn't been very good for quite a few years now (although IMO Bruce Jones did some cool things with the storylines), now that Peter David is writing it again I might give up on it. He did do some great stuff during his first run on the book but towards the end were some of the worst Hulk comics I've ever read, he's only done a few issues since returning to the book but it seems to be much of the same crap.
Invincible kicks serious ass! Without a doubt the best superhero comic being published.
The Walking Dead. Zombies. Enough said.
Savage Dragon I read because I'm a huge Erik Larsen fan, I've loved his work since his Spiderman run.
And, hands down the best comic book being published in the world; Y - The Last Man. It's one of those books where it almost kills you to have to wait an entire month for the next one to come out.

Erik Larson is a genius, I absolutely love his work! He drew some of the best Spider-Man comics of all time. Not only is he a great artist, he's a great writer... so much more so than Todd McFarlane could ever hope to be.

Re: Spider-Man Comics OK, I've got a beef with Marvel. I read the latest issue of The Spectacular Spider-Man this afternoon. Wow. What a let-down, it was a major load of garbage. The story was the finale of a story arc that featured Gwen Stacy's children. It was like 26 pages of stupidity. Actually the whole story arc has been awful. What should have been a 1 issue story was drawn out into 4 issues. I heard a rumor that Marvel was going to cancel this title. And since the last half-dozen issues or so have sucked big time, I think it's the right move. Marvel should stick with a single Spidey comic book and let the best art and writing team work on it, and not stretch out the talent between 3-4 different Spider-Man titles.
Oh, and if Marvel does indeed cancel the title, I hope they don't just revivie it within the year and start all over again with issue #1. That little trick of theirs is getting real old.

I went to my old hometown this weekend and stopped by my favorite comic book store. Guess what disappointing news I received? The only comic I was still collecting, Emma Frost, has been cancelled. Darn you Marvel!! Cancelling 2 of my favorites in one year (although I will grant that Thor had been awful for quite some time) is just not fair!
Until something new comes along with good writing, good artwork, and preferrably a strong female lead (Sojourn spoiled me.), I won't be collecting comic books any more.

Re: Danger Girl Brinna, did you ever read the Danger Girl series? It had all the things you like in a comic book: good artwork, good story, strong female lead.

This was the first Spiderman comic I ever bought, Larsen's art had me hooked immediately, I stopped reading all the Spiderman books during the horrible Clone Saga.
I've been reading Ultimate Spidey lately though, it's not too bad, but not nearly as good as Larsen's run on Amazing. That IMO was Spidey's peak, no Spiderman title will ever be as good.

Re: Comic Books Humberto Ramos' recent short run on one of the Spidey titles was pretty good. I really enjoyed his style of art.

Yeah, just about everyone did. And whatever happend to Peter and Mary Jane's baby? I don't think it was ever explained.

Re: Invincible My brother loaned me a couple Invincible trade paperbacks of his. It's not a bad comic at all, it's actually a pretty good read. He gave me the first three trade paperbacks, he's got two more for me when I'm done. For the first time in a long time, I'm actually enjoying reading a comic book. Wow.

Re: Identity Revelead I just read yesterday that in a current issue of some Marvel mini series that Spider-Man revealed his identity to the world. Ugh.
Ten bucks says this won't last, though, that this will be reversed somehow. It's just a publicity stunt by Marvel to sell comics.
