Re: Ideas
Also, every leg should have a prize for first place and no team can earn more than 5 prizes... I like the idea of every leg having a prize, that would make coming in first place more desirable and make things more competitive between the racers. I don't like the idea of limiting the number of prizes won, though. Prizes every leg = good. Limits to number of prizes one can win = bad. Agree. What happens when a team comes in 1st for the 6th time... they give the prize to 2nd place instead? That just doesn't seem right.

Can we award a few other prizes? Like "congeniality" or "team who bickered the least" or "kindest to others in trouble"? Nothing big like a trip but acknowledgement of decency.

Maybe have the team who does the yield have a 10 or 15 minute penalty at the start of the next leg for being mean to the team they yielded. Then why offer the yield in the first place if a team gets penalized for using it? I think Jay said it at the first of TAR7--this is a race, not a matchmaking game! You race to win, and yielding can help accomplish that.Well, my thinking when I posted what I did was that teams use the yield to help themselves get to that leg's Pit Stop before another team and save themselves from elimination. The yield doesn't necessarily help a team win. Due to all the bunching, time differences often don't mean much at the beginning of a leg but they can mean a great deal at the end of the leg. Therefore, if you're going to be "mean" and yield another team at the end of a leg, the "punishment" for being mean (if there is one) could be a small time delay at the beginning of the next leg, which usually wouldn't make much difference. I think I follow you now, though I have to penalize you by ignoring your post because you are mean to Rob & Amber. :wink:How am I being mean, other than thinking they shouldn't have been given a spot in the race for $1 mil when they already had more than that?? They were selected because people like me might cry "foul!" and root against them and because they were already known to CBS reality fans (and generally disliked). By putting Rob and Amber in the race, TAR got a ready-made team-you-love-to-hate. I had not watched Survivor and only knew of Rob and Amber via RTVP hearsay. Nevertheless, Rob made me a believer. I grew to hate him just from his TAR antics alone. Well, I was teasing for the most part about being mean to Rob & Amber. I'm pretty sure they could care less about what their haters say, especially when they have plenty of fans to keep them in the spotlight. I still don't know why people hate them so much, though. I was skeptical of Rob & Amber before TAR7, but I grew to appreciate their competitiveness and creativity, and teamwork, not to mention their clear respect for each other. Rob made me laugh, and he was just flat nice to lots of people that I would not have expected. But back to "yielding being mean". I don't see that being any "meaner" than a soccer goalie stopping an opponent from scoring a ball, or a defensive back intercepting a pass. It's part of the game, and if another team beats you to the yield and they yield you, then play harder next time. :: shrug ::

Rob & Amber get the "Team Who Bickered the Least" award. It's a close call, but I think the brothers would beat out Rob & Amber for this award.

If I could change something about TAR, I'd like to do away with using locals as "tour guides." Racers can ask locals for directions and that's it!I really like this suggestion. I would add - If you've already won a huge cash prize on another reality show, you are ineligible to complete on TAR!  I would elaborate and say if you have been on any other reality show, whether you won or not, you are ineligible to compete on TAR.

Re: Reality TV Racers
I'm all for having one team of reality tv "celebrities" each season. I really enjoyed watching Rob & Amber and Allison & Donnie the last couple of seasons.

If I could change something about TAR, I'd like to do away with using locals as "tour guides." Racers can ask locals for directions and that's it! That song is getting really old. The racers pay taxi drivers to take them somewhere, so that's not on their own. Locals are often involved in the Roadblocks and Detours, so the racers don't do that on their own. They ask directions from locals, some of whom lead them by foot or car to wherever they are going. That's just part of the freaking race. If you can talk or pay someone who knows the city into helping, why, oh why, is that such a problem? It's just smart, sound, racing. And for those who want unknowns only playing the game, I would think you would be extra happy that the local, unknown citizens of various countries get to take part in The Amazing Race. Old or not that's how I feel. Taxi drivers are not locals. If a team wants to spend their money to have a taxi take them somewhere, fine. What I'm talking about is when some of the legs require the teams to take a taxi because it's too far to walk. That's a given and isn't considered using the help of a local. Yes, I know locals are sometimes involved in some of the tasks, like pushing a 600 lb. elephant or a car with no engine through a crowded street. That's also a given. I'm sure CSB got an earful from viewers about this and it wouldn't surprise me if some changes were made regarding how locals are used.

Some wonderfully intelligent person said this in the non-elim. thread ... The show is good...let it alone  Brilliant! I agree! Worth repeating. Oh did I say that? Seriously....the show is great, why go messing with things? You know when you mess with things that dont need messing with, they always end up ruined. Get your fingers off of it! If you want to talk about a show that needs fixed, lets talk about American Idol. But not here...

Kitri- 05-14-2005

But didn't they change how many times a person can do the Roadblock?? That didn't ruin TAR...

But didn't they change how many times a person can do the Roadblock?? That didn't ruin TAR... Yep, that was a good change. "Tweak" is probably a better word for it. I don't want to drastically alter the game, but to stay fresh and exciting, there have to be new things added in or it becomes repetitious and boring; we know what to expect. Like Survivor was for a few seasons before they made a few alterations to keep the competitors off their feet. There will probably be some new rules for the family version that's coming out next, I reckon.
