Re: Carmen Carmen didn't do that trill thing, did she? I honestly don't remember how that girl sounded... except that I really dug her voice and singing style, because it was so different from the rest.

Matt, honey, I think you were blinded by Carmen's cutesyness, but she was just one big trill.

The girl has a good voice but for crying out loud why will she never say THANK YOU. Randy and Paula both were very complimentary last night and all she did was smile.

If you were paying close attention you would have realized that she did say thank you. She was smiling brightly each time, but it was in a whisper so you had to actually be watching her lips. She even said thank you to Ryan. She may be still trying to catch her breath after her performances, or maybe she is just shy about praise and a bit uncomfortable just standing there in front of everyone being either criticised or praised. But she did say thank you several times last night. I was watching closely because someone had mentioned this before.

I, have liked every single performance that Carrie has done except for last Tuesdays.
All the judges heard it too.
I didn`t care for the song for her, and I definately didn`t think it was star quality.

Re: Carrie I agree, this week's performance wasn't her best. It still was far better than the rest of the bunch, though. Carrie is in a league of her own. If she doesn't win, then there is seriously something wrong with the people who are voting.

The fact that Scott was in the top 3 last week--let alone still in the competition at all--proves that this is already the case.

Fortunately for Carrie, the industry has already taken notice of her. Even if the voting is screwed up, she will do okay. She has proven she's got the pipes and she is a very pretty girl. Someone will sign her. She'll probably need some dance lessons and maybe acting lessons but she's got the look and the voice to be marketable and successful.

Re: Carrie For Carrie's sake, I hope someone in Nashville takes notice and signs her up if she doesn't win. If Josh Gracin can be successful in the country-western music biz, Carrie is going to be a superstar.

I agree. Carrie has quite a future ahead of her, no matter what happens in this competition. I coulnd't say that about the rest of the contestants.
Rufus- 05-03-2005
Does anyone else here watch Nashville Star? It ended last week with the crowning of an 18 year old girl who could sing circles around Carrie. Okay, I'm no great judge of the vocal part, but the performance part was where this girl could totally out-perform Carrie, as would all the other top 10 in this competition. Carrie will need to do a lot of work on her stage "presence", but I just don't think she has "it" like some other performers. She could do well with just cd's though.

Re: Carrie I don't have cable so I've never seen Nashville Star. But from all the things I hear about it, the contestants on that show seem so much more talented than the American Idol talent. And I hear that the Nashville Star contestants have to write their own music as well, is this correct?
You're right, Rufus. Carrie's biggest flaw is her stage performance. But I think she can overcome that with some practice.

And I hear that the Nashville Star contestants have to write their own music as well, is this correct?Yes, they do have to write their own music. Most of them play an instrument(s) as well. They don't have an age limit on Nashville Star and first winner, Buddy Jewell, had been working in Nashville for years as a demo singer. Second season winner, Brad Cotter, had done the same plus he'd been writing songs for Warner/Chappell and EMI Music . Most of these contestants are more seasoned performers/musicians than the AI contestants, they just hadn't had their "big break" until Nashville Star.

I'm glad you and Brinna agree with this. I said the same thing in another thread and got ripped apart for it. Where were you guys to back me up.
In her last performance she proved that certain music does compel her to move. It wasn't the best but a vast improvement for her and it looked natural for her, but she does need some lesson to make it look better.
