Brian and Greg and the crash
This was a pretty dramatic moment last night. I'm glad the cameraman is all right. I know that there was a lot of editing, but I thought that Brian and Greg were a little too anxious to get away from the scene of the wreck. I think if I had just caused a wreck that left someone injured, I might be a little more patient! But I thought it was sweet that they prayed for their cameraman when they left, and felt they were genuinely glad he was going to be all right. As for Rob and Amber, they should have at least done what the other teams did and ask if there was anything they could do. It appeared to be a pretty serious accident. All they had to do was say, "Is there anything we can do?" I thought it was nice that Lynn and Alex stopped and helped.

I didn't think they were in a hurry to get away? The brother that was driving kept saying how upset he was at what he had done, and at one point one of them said something about if it cost them the race, oh well, as long as the guy was okay, something like that. They started getting anxious while waiting for a replacement vehicle though, but I thought that at that point the cameraman had been taken away or was being taken care of by medical staff.

Becky578- 03-30-2005

Oh, well, I guess I didn't realize the cameraman had possibly already been treated at that point. Initially, they were pretty upset and shaken. But then it was like they were just in a hurry to get their replacement vehicle. They couldn't have fallen that far behind the pack since some were still at the Detour when they got there.

bookie- 03-30-2005

They questioned when their car would get there, but I thought that the cameraman was being treated at that point. I thought they were great. Just goes to show you....every team but Rob & Amber at least stopped to see if they needed help. Other than Ray and Rob, all the teams are pretty good sports.

Kitri- 03-30-2005

Phil kind of rubbed it in when he asked Rob and Amber if they stopped to see if the brothers were alright. Everyone else did. Goes to show you just how heartless Rob can be. I'm glad the cameraman and the brothers were okay. Yep, they were getting anxious waiting for the replacement vehicle (and another cameraman!) when all the other teams drove by and they knew they were in last place....but they made up for it at the detour. I'm pulling for those guys!

Hottie Phil- 03-30-2005

Goes to show you just how heartless Rob can be. I agree with you on this one. At that point I instantly stopped liking Rob and Amber. He can be as ruthless as he wants in the context of the race and I won't mind, but that accident was outside the race, someone who wasnt even competing got hurt, and it was just mean to not stop. I was actually really hoping that they would get a penalty for not stopping to at least see if they could help.

Unfortunately, I doubt that Rob and Amber will ever comprehend that not stopping was reprehensible. Of course, karma tends to repay such actions (or non-actions).

I still don't see the horribleness of Rob & Amber for not stopping to "help" Greg & Brian. Lynn and Alex stopped 'cuz they were the first on the scene. If they had been 3rd or later, would they have stopped? Maybe, but I doubt it. I wouldn't have stopped if another team already had done so, especially considering that the camera crew has some kind of communication device. Nobody else besides Alex & Lynn actually stopped, the camera guys certainly didn't stop filming, and even Phil didn't leave the Pit Stop to go and check on them. Why? 'Cuz the situation was under control. Bummer for the brothers, but what could Rob & Amber or any of the other teams have done to actually help?

Brinna- 04-09-2005

The point that makes them seem sleezy is not that they didn't stop because another team already had, but that they didn't even slow down. The others teams all slowed down and even if they didn't get out of their vehicles, asked if everyone was okay and if they needed help. Rob just drove on by. Because he was being filmed, we saw and heard why he made his decision; the other teams just saw him drive by. He still could have at least slowed down and shouted out the window to verify that everything would be okay. The fact that he didn't shows a flaw in his character. My students were reading an article about 6 time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong this week. It talked about how in one of the races Lance was pretty much neck and neck with his chief rival Jan Ullrich. Ullrich crashed. Lance could have taken advantage of the crash and gained a lot of time by continuing on. Afterall, there are team doctors and other people around to help racers when they fall. Instead, Lance chose to stop and make sure Jan was okay and waited until he was back on his bike. Lance went on to win the race anyway but later said that he stopped because "It was the right thing to do." It's called common decency, something Rob does not have.

Re: Rob & Amber
It it were me in Rob and Amber's place, I probably wouldn't have stopped either. What's the point in Rob and Amber stopping to help out if another team was already there helping out? They probably would've just gotten in the way.

I agree that Lance Armstrong made an impressive choice in that particular race. Kudos to him, but I can't fault the racers that continued on their way. Lance also knows Jan and they have a relationship born out of years competing against each other. To judge Lance by that one act of goodness is to give him too much credit, I think. Similarly, while it would have been nice for Rob & Amber to stop for Greg & Brian, I can't define who he is by that one act. At other times in the race he has shown plenty of common decency to others, particularly the locals. And if he were a total jerk, I don't expect that he would be able to get all the help from locals that he and Amber have received.

If there ever is an all-star season, I hope Greg & Brian are invited to participate. I'd love to see them get another shot at winning a million dollars.

And an All Star season is a great idea. If I third it will that make it so? Let's hope... It would be neat if they brought the All Star teams back wearing only what they wore to the mat when they were eliminated. Greg & Brian in swim shorts and winter hats would be great.

If I were them, I wouldn`t have stopped either. There were already others stopped that could help them more, and the camera was still rolling. It looked insensitive, but it looked like they slowed down, as they were watching it. It`s all part of the race. Accidents. It`s like when you`re watching a Nascar race, and someone gets bumped and loses control of their car. Nobody stops for them either. They continue on, and there are others there to help. Part of the race.
