August 23 - Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have
Rock Star: Supernova, August 23 - Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off by Jenn Brasler -- 08/24/2006 But apparently Dilana wouldn’t know because she can’t lie. Instead, she creates drama that almost overshadows the elimination show. Why is she picking on Ryan and Lukas? And what do they have to say in response? The singers are all standing on the stage. Are they all in the bottom three? Hi, Supernova. Hi, Dave. Tommy confirms that they’ll be performing another Supernova song tonight. But first, a recap of last night. Patrice sang her original song, “Beautiful Thing,” and Tommy thought it was a little too happy, though good. Magni did “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and Storm did “Cryin’.” Toby stripped for “Layla” and Lukas did “All These Things That I’ve Done” with his back to the audience. Dilana sang “Every Breath You Take” for her mom. Ryan smashed his guitar to his original song, “Back of Your Car.” Dave thinks he’s a dark horse. In this week’s mansion footage, Dilana announces that Ryan would have sucked without the house band. “Thanks?” he says. Exactly. He tells her not to use a negative, but she says that’s how she wants to say it. Later, by the pool, Dilana says she’s been getting more votes than Ryan because she’s giving everything she has. She and Magni are smoking. Bad! That’ll ruin their voices. Magni says they’re growing. Ryan jokes that he needs some fake eyelashes. He interviews that it’s okay to critique people, but you should still be modest and show respect. Ha! This from the guy who said he was embarrassed that Dana was in the competition. What a hypocrite. Later, the singers go online to check out some of their fans’ Live Spaces pages. Patrice thinks it’s cool to see what people are building for them. Toby says it’s awesome that these people go to this trouble. Ryan likes that the artist benefits and gets feedback instantly. One fan suggests that both Dilana and Ryan front the band. Dilana protests and Ryan says he’d shoot himself. Dilana offers that she would shoot him, too. She interviews that that was the last thing she would have ever thought of. When did she become such a brat? At the Aztec, Brooke wonders what’s going on between them. Dave says that the site is causing a ruckus in the house. He adds that the Internet is becoming a major part of music and it’s unique to have an instantaneous connection with fans. He tells Dilana he’s shocked by her attitude. A fan - not Supernova - suggested putting them both in the band and her reaction was to turn to violence. Dilana tells Ryan she loves him and apologizes for coming across the way she did. She admits that she’s obviously not too nice this week. She says that she would hate to be on tour with anyone and have to share the stage - she wants to be the singer, not one of two singers. Yes, yes, it’s The Apprentice, not The Apprenti. We get it. Dave asks if Dilana was joking when she said that Ryan would be nothing without the house band. “No,” says Dilana, either not understanding the question or just giving a knee-jerk response. “I mean yes!” she corrects herself. Dave notes that each of the singers would be nothing without the house band. All hail the house band! He wonders if Dilana is threatened by Ryan. Ryan basks. Dilana denies this, of course, saying that she’s doing her best and that’s all she can do. Dave asks Ryan for his reaction. Ryan says that after seeing that and hearing what has been said around the house, his thought right now is that what Dilana said was the most graceful thing he’s heard from her in a while. What a weirdly backhanded compliment. Dilana is ticked. Ryan continues that everyone seems to love her, and when you’re on top and you talk down to people, it shows disrespect that people don’t look up to. She should be more positive. Oh, you two. Just make out already. So last week Dilana got to sing with Supernova. Who will be the lucky singer tonight? We see footage of the singers in the studio with Supernova. Over a montage of them singing, Patrice says that each singer brings a certain flavor. It’s tough for Supernova because they each have a different approach. Ryan says they’re either right for the band or not right at all. I think Toby and Storm sound the best for the song. Magni says there’s no room for error anymore. On stage, you have to kill it. Back at the Aztec, Jason says rocking last week felt good, so they’ll do it again each week. Tonight, the band is doing “Be Yourself and Five Other Clichés” (heh) with “the Thunder from Down Under,” the lovely Toby. Jason says he has to keep his shirt on, but I don’t think anyone supports that. Toby looks very comfortable on stage, like he’s been performing with Supernova forever. For some reason he talk-sings one of the verses, which is kind of annoying. He sounds awesome, though. Brooke tells us that earlier in the week the singers sat down with some members of the media. Lukas interviews that if you’re a rock star, media is a part of game and you have to know how to handle it. There are three interviewers, and one is Mark Long. He’s from Fox Reality’s Reality Remix, but reality TV fans may know him better as one of the early cast members of Road Rules and one of the better known veterans of the Real World/Road Rules Challenge. Mark asks if Lukas liked Jason, Gilby, or Tommy’s music before this. Lukas admits that he lost his virginity to a Metallica song. Mark says he lost his to New Edition. Shut it, Mark. Another interviewer, Kevin Dickson from In Touch, asks Toby about touring the world. Toby says it depends what medicines they have out there. Jamie White from Star 98.7 asks Ryan if he thinks Dilana has the edge. Ryan agrees, then promptly gets flustered when Jason arrives. Jason interviews that this is a crash course and it all comes down to representation. Kevin asks Lukas if anyone in the house seems to be faking it. Lukas says of course but does an excellent job of declining to elaborate. Jason interviews that when you when you talk negative about someone, there will be repercussions. Unless you’re like me and you get to talk trash about people who never read what you write. Mwa ha ha! Dilana tells Jamie that she wants to strangle Lukas. Jamie asks why. Dilana says he’s different from one minute to the next. Jamie reports to Lukas that someone hates him and he asks who. She tells him that Dilana wants to save him because he gets moody and goes to a dark place. Um, he’s a rocker and he wears black eyeliner. Is this supposed to be earth-shattering news? Lukas responds that Jamie should tell Dilana to mind her own business. In the Aztec, people cheer. Lukas interviews that Dilana doesn’t know who he is and shouldn’t be saying those things to a camera or anyone. It’s uncalled for and cheap. Dilana tells Kevin that she knows who’s serious and who’s just along for the ride. Kevin asks for details and Dilana names Toby and Magni. She interviews that it’s hard to answer the questions, but it’s still a contest. At the Aztec, the audience boos. Dave is shocked and doesn’t know what’s going on. He says it’s unbelievable and asks what Dilana was thinking. She’s doing well in the competition, but… He’s speechless and can’t finish his thought. He advises the singers to take it from him because he’s made these mistakes - you never bag on your peers like that. Dilana says that Jamie told Lukas she wanted to save him, but she actually said that she understands a lot about him because they had similar upbringings. She really wants to protect him like a mother dove and take him under her wing. Um, okay. Lukas replies that he doesn’t need a dove or a wing. Heh. Dilana excuses her behavior by saying that she’s not a pro who’s done interviews, she’s just a singer. It’s a learning process and she screwed up. She apologizes to everyone she’s offended, but she’s human and she screwed up. Yes, she’s human, which means she should have human feelings and be nicer to people. She promises to learn from this. Dave gives her props for owning up but asks why she would say what she said in the first place. Dilana says she’s too honest and doesn’t know how to lie. There’s an extremely appropriate quote for this occasion, from Cordelia from Buffy the Vampire Slayer: “Tact is just not saying true stuff. I’ll pass.” Dave asks Lukas for his reaction. Lukas isn’t surprised. He knows what’s been going on and he has to live with it, literally. He’s bigger than that. With this and “All These Things That I’ve Done,” I think I might start to actually like Lukas. Scary, no? Dave tells the singers they’ll all have to grow thick skins when it comes to this kind of stuff. It’s brutal - just ask Tommy. Dave and the guys of Supernova walk around with legitimate targets on their backs, and the winner will be a singer who won a reality show, so of course he or she will have to answer for some things. We’re skipping the encore tonight and going straight to the bottom three. The early bottom three from last night are Zayra… wait, sorry. Old habit. The bottom three are Patrice, Storm, and Toby. Oh, evs. Brooke says that if we don’t like that, we’ll hate this: the other singer who fell into the bottom three at some point was Magni. This means Ryan, Lukas, and Dilana are safe. I hope there’s some crow back at the mansion because Dilana needs to dig in. The first singer in the bottom three is… Magni. Jason just shakes his head. Magni good-naturedly tells Brooke that she’s mean. He’ll be doing “Fire” by Jimi Hindrix. Awesome, awesome, awesome. He grabs his guitar and gets right to it. It turns out to be the perfect song for him. Sorry, I’m too busy dancing in my chair to comment. It’s just excellent. Supernova looks like they’re loving it, too. Magni and the house band guitarist play the guitar solo together. Afterwards, all Tommy says is, “That was ridiculous!” The second singer in the bottom three is… Patrice. Shocker. She’ll be singing the Pretenders’ “Middle of the Road.” I got some heat last night for admitting that I don’t like “Layla,” so should I admit now that I don’t like the Pretenders? Oops, too late. It works for Patrice, though. You know, if she gave her survival performances on performance nights, she probably wouldn’t wind up in the bottom three all the time. She goes for some house band and audience participation, which is nice. Overall it’s a solid performance, but I fear it’s too little, too late. The third singer in the bottom three is… Toby. Awww. Tommy’s starting to get a complex. “I’m never taking my top off ever again,” Toby says. Don’t ever say that! He’ll be going “Plush” by the Stone Temple Pilots, who we’re starting to hear more than Nirvana in this competition. He’s good, but not as good as Magni was earlier. Let’s just leave it at that. I’m sure he’s safe, though. Back from commercials, Gilby tells Patrice he’s happy she got to do her original song. But this is her fourth time in the bottom three, and it’s getting harder to ignore that. Magni has been in the bottom three two weeks in a row, but he did a great job on “Fire.” Toby deserved to sing with Supernova, so it’s crazy for him to be in the bottom three. Of course, it means something that people didn’t vote for him enough. But Toby is safe, to my delight. Out comes the Tommyhawk. Patrice is practically living in the bottom three, so people don’t seem to like her, and that means she has to go. Another shocker. Hey, I got one right for once! Magni returns to the singers’ seats to get a kiss on the head from Ryan. Patrice handles the whole thing calmly and tells the band she’s had a great time. She gets to put this experience on her long list of amazing things she’s done in her life. Awww, she’s so classy. Dave is right, she should go for a solo career. Brooke reminds us that next week is viewers’ choice. Wanna place bets on how many times Supernova will slam or praise song choices anyway? Post-show comments: Magni has no problems being in the bottom three. He’s ticked that he was there twice in row, but he jokes that he should get an encore for his performance of “Fire.” I agree! He says they’ll all miss Patrice; they’re all close and will miss everyone who goes. Toby says it was actually exciting to be in the bottom three. Now he wants to focus on showing his creativity. He wants this job more than ever. http://www.realitynewsonline.com/cgi-bin/ae.pl?mode=4&article=article9835.art&page=1

Re: Dilana
Now that only two women are left, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict Dilana is the next woman to go... leaving Storm the sole woman on the show. I think after last week's comments, the band is having second thoughts about Dilana. And hopefully the voting audience will turn on her as well. Goodbye, Dilana.

Re: Rockstar: Supernova
OK, I'm going to have to rethink what I stated above. Storm will probably most likely not outlast Dilana due to what I heard from Storm's own mouth this afternoon during a local radio interview. In the interview, Storm mentioned she was told by one of the band members that they all dig her and think she is talented and amazing, but just not right for the band. I'm a little amazed the band told her this. I wonder if this means she'll be the one to go this week if she's in the bottom three. She also mentioned the feeling in the house is that Dilana and Lucas are the clear favorites to win... which isn't so much of a surprise. They have been the front-runners since the very beginning.
