August 11 live feeds Big Brother: All-Stars, August 11 Live Feeds – Iron Chef, Big Brother Style
by Jeffrey Clinard -- 08/12/2006
The food competition is held, with the houseguests playing a version of Iron Chef to win food. What is the theme ingredient? What do the houseguests make out it? What special guests do the judging? Which two houseguests have entered showmance territory? Oh yeah, and there is a nomination too – who gets put on the block? Warning: This article contains spoiler information!
Good morning, houseguests!
Big Brother wakes up the houseguests quite early (before 8:00) this morning and puts them on outside lockdown. Danielle talks about being a leasing agent, and Marcellas says his goal for the week is to not go upstairs. They talk about how Janelle must be the most hated houseguest in America right now. They then shift gears and complain about the redo of the HOH competition (don’t know what we’re talking about? Check out yesterday’s live feeds) and start threatening lawsuits. They also think it's a hot topic among the internet viewers.
Elsewhere, Mike Boogie and Dr. Will talk about the mysterious power Julie talked about (that would be the coup d'etat) and promise to signal each other if they win it. Mike Boogie promises to get up early every day to look for clues.
Erika and Danielle also have their own ideas about the coup d'etat power. Danielle thinks the phrase is DNA – Do Not Assume, and thinks the sheep was a reference to Dolly, the cloned sheep. Danielle thinks the power will be to bring back an evicted houseguest. Erika doesn't want Alison to return. I think both of them missed the point of the first clue. The sheep had a pink ribbon on it. That means it is a female sheep, or a ewe. Thus, I believe the first word in the phrase is “You.”
Lockdown ends and Janelle is summoned to the diary room for the food competition instructions. The kitchen has been redone with lots of appliances and cookware, plus dishes and cards. Janelle reads the instructions for the food competition, with a few retakes. Since this competition is obviously based on Iron Chef, I'll recap it in the same style.
“Many years ago, Big Brother came up with a whole new concept for the houseguests – competitions for food. Those that won competitions would eat real food, while the losers would be put on food restriction. Now, Big Brother wants to sample the results of the houseguests’ culinary efforts. Each houseguest has one hour to prepare a dish that best articulates the flavor of the theme ingredient. Today's theme ingredient is... slop!”
Chicken George is on slop, no matter what, and Marcellas has a slop pass, so they don't need to participate, but can assist other houseguests. Judging will come from a three-person panel, who will grade each dish on taste and presentation, each giving the item a rating between one and five. A dish which rates 10 or above means the houseguests win food for the day. Below that, the house is on slop for that day. A perfect score of 15 merits a BBQ with all the fixings for the houseguests.
The race is on for the houseguests to prepare food with a main ingredient of slop. Chicken George assists Dr. Will with slop cupcakes, while Danielle makes slop burritos. Other dishes include an apple slop crumble, slop waffles with blueberry syrup, and a pasta dish. In the middle of the competition a fuse blows and the appliances lose power. Power comes back and the houseguests continue to work on their dishes, with Dr. Will icing his cupcakes with dots.
Marcellas urges the houseguests to wipe the dishes around the edges for a clean appearance for the judging staff. Somebody’s been watching Hell’s Kitchen! Chicken George samples everything – I can't blame him; the food is slop-based, but they are allowed ingredients other than the condiments they are allowed to use with slop. As the clock winds down, the houseguests have about ten dishes, and have to serve their best ones. They take the dishes outdoors to the judging table and are then put on indoor lockdown. They can monitor the judgment via the plasma screen, and can even banter with them, but not meet them.
The judges come out, and they are familiar faces. Nicole, the personal chef and runner up from Big Brother 2 is one of the judges. Jun, the winner of Big Brother 4, is another. The third judge is Marvin from Big Brother 5. One by one, the judges sample the food, trading comments with the houseguests over the microphones. There is a lot of bantering and explanations of where the slop was in some of the dishes, and the judges use a lot of four-letter words. Marvin says that Danielle's slopcakes (crab cakes without the crab and with slop) taste like low-grade dog food. They like the presentation of Dr. Will and Chicken George's slop cupcakes, and even like the taste of Danielle's slop burritos. The slop waffles are OK, though the judges wonder about the amount of slop in it.
Feeds go to fire for quite some time. I assume that given the amount of banter and four letter words used during the judging of the dishes, they had to do some retakes. Also, the houseguests got the scoring. Dr. Will's cupcakes rated an 11, which appears to be the second-highest score, but overall it appears they won food for every day but Wednesday.
With that over, James, Dr. Will, and Mike Boogie talk strategy. They want to save Danielle if she goes up, either with veto power or votes, and get rid of Janelle next week since she can't win HOH. Actually, I have to wonder about that – if the coup d'etat is used, wouldn't that make the new head of the realm the outgoing HOH? I guess we’ll find out at some point, but the houseguests don’t know about it now so they can’t even wonder. They eventually take a nap.
Erika and Chicken George play checkers, while Danielle plays solitary and mutters that she's going to be nominated. Erika is called to the diary room and Chicken George joins Danielle. They talk about the HOH competition and Danielle explains her guess about the secret power. Chicken George wants Marcellas to go on the block; that way they can save Danielle. Erika joins them after her diary room session. She goes into another rant about how unfair it was for Big Brother to strip her of the HOH and allow everybody to play for it again, instead of picking up from where the buzzer system problems came into play. They wonder if Janelle can pick somebody to play for veto, as she can't play herself.
Marcellas joins the group and says he hopes Chicken George wins the game. Marcellas and Danielle complain about the spirits of the former houseguests taunting them, as well as the judging staff making comments. Erika calls Jun a disgusting human being. Marcellas and Danielle then make fun of the internet viewers and posters. Erika leaves to find some whipped cream to suck the nitrous oxide out of, and then goes to play checkers with Chicken George.
Danielle and Marcellas continue to gripe about everything, with Marcellas saying it would be a nightmare if Janelle and Howie made it to the end. They chat about Cowboy, and Erika goes off to talk to Mike Boogie. Actually, she just wants to complain more about the whole HOH business. Chicken George goes to the diary room, then visits Janelle in the HOH room. Janelle and Howie say he's cool with them, and he says they are doing an awesome job in challenges. Howie and Janelle assure him that when James put him up, it was a house consensus. Chicken George says he's not mad, and doesn't have a beef with anybody. He also doesn't want to push any names on her for nominations – it's not the way he plays. Janelle asks him if Danielle asked him to vote out Kaysar. He doesn't answer, which they take as a “Yes.” Chicken George says he needs to be careful in how he plays. Janelle says Chicken George is safe this week as long as Marcellas doesn't win the veto, but warns him against trusting the floaters, as they pushed for his nomination.
Chicken George leaves, and he and James start cleaning up the kitchen, which is still a mess from the food competition. Dr. Will trash-talks the internet viewers.
Feeds go to fire, and when they return, we learn that just like that, Erika and Danielle have been nominated.
Erika complains (did you expect anything else), and is offended by Janelle saying she didn't like her game. Danielle says she is getting the hang of being nominated. Howie and Janelle go to the HOH room and talk about Kaysar. Janelle asks Howie if she is a bitch. He says she is sometimes.
Dr. Will tells Mike Boogie that the fly in the porta-potty wasn't a clue, according to Big Brother. James talks to Marcellas and goes over combinations of sheep and flies. James goes off to help clean up the kitchen with Erika, and Chill Town goes up to visit Janelle. Dr. Will tells her the other houseguests think the game is rigged in her favor. He says he would veto anybody but Marcellas, and states if Marcellas win HOH he won't even bother going to the nomination ceremony. Dr. Will asks Janelle if James is worthy of the final five, and she says “definitely.”
Erika and Marcellas talk, with Marcellas promising to use the veto on Erika if he wins it. Erika tells us she has bad cramps (too much information!) and both of them say Janelle has gained 10 pounds since she entered the house – it's the weight Erika lost. Funny, I remember Maggie telling the Friendship pretty much the same thing – Janelle had found the weight Maggie had lost. Marcellas thinks James will vote out Danielle. He also thinks Janelle wants to backdoor him (Marcellas). They talk about the fly, and how they spent hours trying to puzzle it out before Big Brother told them that it wasn't a clue.
Mike Boogie and Dr. Will chat, with them saying Janelle makes great TV, but isn't a good player. Sorry guys, Janelle made it to third place in her season. That means she did something right. They continue to laugh about Janelle behind her back.
Big Brother provides some alcohol, and the guests (except Chicken George) start to live it up. Dr. Will tries to get Chicken George to say something derogatory to the internet viewers, but he refuses. Erika complains about how mean-spirited the competitions are this year. Howie says it's good versus evil, but Erika asks what side is good, and what side is evil. Mike Boogie asks Erika how she racially insulted Jee in season four. She says she is part Asian herself (Filipino grandfather). Dr. Will says he is 100% cracker, Danielle states she is 100% negro. Hey, alcohol plus houseguests make life interesting. Erika feigns being shocked that she is friends with a negro. I'm not quite sure if she is shocked that her and Danielle are friends, or that Danielle turned out to be an African-American.
James tells Chicken George about how he met Sarah, and Chicken George says he met his wife when they were 17, and got married a year later. Their anniversary is September 2nd. James notes he'll be in sequestration on his anniversary. Danielle joins them and James suggests she should have some water and get some rest for tomorrow's veto competition.
Dr. Will, Mike Boogie, Erika, and Janelle have a hot tub party. Mike Boogie and Erika share a kiss, and Dr. Will shouts out that they are dating, have lived together for six months, and are engaged. Janelle leaves, and Dr. Will goes to join her in the HOH bedroom. Dr. Will says he doesn't trust James much, and that the flirting between Erika and Mike Boogie shouldn't bother her, since he's ready to cut her loose. Perhaps they should use the spy screen, as Erika and Mike Boogie have crawled into bed together in the red room, kissing and spooning.
Mike tells Erika he was happy that America voted her into the house, and they talk a bit about the secret power clues. They talk about how useless Chicken George is, but think he'll make the final five. Guys, big mistake! Chicken George is something of a misfit in the house, but nobody should ever underestimate a player. At some point, that vote he has may turn out to be very useful, either to evict somebody or to win the game. Danielle was smart enough to include him in the strategy session last week, making him feel like he was a part of the team. Honestly, Chicken George has been left out of so much stuff that it wouldn't take much to win him over. Marcellas enters the room and breaks up the flirting session.
Upstairs in the HOH bedroom, Howie and Janelle question James, and suspect Danielle put him up as a pawn, and that James was in on the entire plot. With his vote nullifier he was always safe, and they think he was working with Danielle the whole time. Howie thinks it was risky, but it worked, and that's why he picked prizes in the veto competition.
Eventually, everybody goes to bed, though Mike Boogie talks in his sleep.
Good night, houseguests.
Summary: The food competition gave the houseguests food for every day except Wednesday. Janelle nominated Erika and Danielle, and wants Danielle out. Mike Boogie and Erika have cranked up their showmance to a new level.
