April 17: Are You Hot or Not? Dancing with the Stars 4, April 17: Are You Hot or Not?
by Jill Jones -- 04/18/2007
Last night on Dancing with the Stars, the couples performed either the samba or rumba; some of the dancers sizzled, while some of them fizzled; Julianne and Apolo scored a triple goober. Tonight, another couple will be eliminated.
Tom and Samantha welcome us to the results show, and review the highs and lows of the performances. Instead of listening to them, read Sandy’s recap. By the way, I want to take just a moment to thank Sandy and Ally for covering the show last evening so that I could celebrate my birthday! Their hard work was appreciated.
After the judges’ scores from last evening, the stars were ranked accordingly:
RANKING STAR SCORE JILL’S RANKING
1 Apolo 30 1
2 Laila 28 2
3 Joey 25 4
4 Ian 24 3
5 Heather 21 6
6 John 18 5
7 Billy Ray 17 7
8 Clyde 13 8
Len says that the judges selected Julianne and Apolo’s samba for the encore performance. I caught this and the other routines on the performance recap show (That’s why I included my rankings above.), and I can confidently say that Julianne and Apolo still move it like the rent is due tonight! That dance is hot! It’s a good thing that Yoko is sleeping; she’s too young for this.
Tom and Samantha introduce some of the professional dancers from the Dancing with the Stars tour. They are performing a swing dance, which is one of the dances that the couples will perform next week. Look, there’s MY Louis van Amstel! Tom tells us that the tour will continue this summer, so if you missed it, you have another chance to attend.
Backstage, Samantha asks Heather about the fall she took last night. Heather explains that she tumbles all of the time, so it wasn’t a big deal to her. Samantha hones her journalism skills by talking to Joey about the bunny slippers he is wearing.
The audience tells us what it thinks of the performances this week. Everyone comments on the triple goober; Florence Henderson says that Apolo is a hot number; one man complains about John’s low scores.
Tom and Samantha reveal that the first two couples that are safe are Laila and Maksim, and Edyta and John. Edyta is thrilled; she squeals and jumps on John.
Lisa Rinna performs “Roxie” from Chicago. Apparently, she is joining the show and giving us a preview of what she brings to the stage. She’s actually quite good.
Samantha chats with Laila and John. She annoys me; she really does. But at least Maksim is there for me to study and examine.
Jimmy Kimmel and Guillermo offer to give us a lesson on swing dancing. I think I’ll pass. Jimmy hurts Guillermo’s feelings, so Joey comforts Guillermo.
Macy Gray is set to sing for us. Before she performs “Finally Made Me Happy,” she dedicates the performance to the victims of the massacre at Virginia Tech and their families. Both the act and the dedication are lovely. Uh, and then Macy scratches her butt as Tom and Samantha take us to the next segment.
We learn about hair and makeup from the stylists, dancers, and stars. Clyde says that it only takes a minute for him to get his hair done and he skips the tanning process completely. Ha!
Tom and Samantha decide to let us know who else is moving on in the competition. To no one’s surprise, they announce that Julianne and Apolo, and Kym and Joey are safe.
The stars now explain how they feel about the judges. Several of them say that they sometimes have trouble understanding the judges. Thank goodness, I thought I was the only one with this problem. Heather likes it when the judges argue with one another. Billy Ray’s outlook is positive; he recognizes that the judges just want to help them all get better.
It’s time for more results. Tom informs Elena and Clyde that they are in the bottom two. He has good news for Cheryl and Ian, and Karina and Billy Ray though; they’re advancing. That means that Heather and Jonathan are joining Elena and Clyde under the menacing red lights.
With only three minutes left in the show, Tom tells us that the couple going home tonight is Elena and Clyde. Clyde looks relieved! He and Elena receive a standing ovation from the audience, and he shows what a gentleman he is by thanking the audience for its votes and the judges’ for their critiques. He also gives props to the other couples.
The competition is getting tougher. Who will come out on top and claim the disco ball trophy?
