April 11th performances BuckyFat Bottomed Girls
I thought it was a great song choice for Bucky. I especially liked that he put a lot of his own personality into the song. It was one of his best performances this season

AceWe Will Rock You
He wasn't bad but wasn't great, just kind of average. I wish he had put the mike stand down and just taken the mike with him if he wanted to move around the stage. That's one of my pet peeves.

KellieBohemian Rhapsody
What was with the strange lighting and her hair?? It was very weird and unflattering. She started off a little weak, got it together, but then didn't bring it for the ending. One of the things that makes this song work for Queen is how the song starts off slow and smooth and then shifts into a powerful performance full of rage and passion. Kellie did the slow part fine but didn't have the intensity needed in the power vocals.

ChrisInnuendo
I didn't care for the song but Chris's vocals were outstanding. He's the only contestant this season that when he's performing, I can picture his song playing on the radio. If he wins American Idol and I hear his songs on the radio, I won't be thinking, "Oh, that's the song by that American Idol contestant". I"ll be thinking "Oh, that's the new song by Chris Daughtry!".

KatharineWho Wants To Live Forever
I absolutely hated the song. I wish she had chosen a different song so I could have focused more on her and less on how awful the song was. She was very pitchy so that didn't help my enjoyment of the song.

ElliottSomebody To Love
It seemed like a very karaoke performance to me. Anybody could have jumped up out of the audience and performed as well as Elliott. It wasn't bad...just boring and forgettable.

TaylorCrazy Little Thing Called Love
Taylor should have stuck to We are the Champions, which he did in practice. I'm not a big fan of that song but I think it would have fit his style and he could have done a good job on it. I can't believe he switched songs so he could show off his atrocious dancing. I was embarrassed for him. His vocals were weak because he was concentrating so much on his dancing and he was back in seizure-mode. He reminded me of when your dad or even your grandpa tries to act cool, fails, and you just feel mortified for them. He was soooo bad.

ParisThe Show Must Go On
She reminded me a lot of Missy Elliott in this song. Her voice was pretty good and her dancing was a hell of a lot better than Taylor's. She wasn't too slutty or too diva-like this week. She looked like a rocker.

Interesting thoughts pika! I enjoyed reading those.
Bucky
I'm not a fan of Bucky but I think he pulled it off this week. I wasn't so sure about it in the beginning as he tends to slur a lot of his notes, but he did work it out in the end. It's crazy to me that he is still hanging on, but he seems to be improving. Far from the best but not bad enough to go home, so I guess he did a good job.

Ace
This could be the performance that sends Ace home. I agree with Simon on this one. It was ridiculous and it was a mess; not a total mess, but enough of a mess that I hated it. I've never been a fan of Ace, and I think he should stop using his falsetto (sp?) and Paula should stop praising it because it ain't good.

Kellie
It started off bad... I could hardly hear her, but I tend to think her fast sections were better than her slow ones. I don't think she pulled it off as the judges did. OH...! when she said "I don't understand his accent. " and he's said "likewise" and she said "I don't have an accent" I was like :? do you not listen to yourself talk?

Chris
I've always enjoyed listening to Chris. I agree with you pika, he is one of the only ones that I can hear on the radio. Very nice.
Rating: 8.5 (it wasn't his best, but it was pretty close)
Katharine
Two things always bug me about Katharine. 1) her style is always wrong. Her stylist needs to be fired. 2) MUCH more importantly, her high notes are always too pitchy... almost like she is trying too hard. I don't think she pulled it off tonight... and Simon it was not a "moment".
Rating: 5 (wow, Bucky got a better rating. )
Elliot
I really heard some pitch problems in Elliot tonight. Far from his best. After being in the bottom 2, he needed to nail it. That wasn't a good choice, and he should be nervous right now.
Rating: 6 (yeah, i think he was better than bucky, and katharine)
Taylor
He gave up a slow song so he could dance. WHY?? I don't get that. He is the one contestant that needs to show off his vocals and nothing else. His vocals were actually ok though and that is what I am ranking him on.

Paris
She had a good look, and a great song choice. I thought she did an awesome job. That was the one other performance that I would listen to again.

I don't have a number ranking, but this is the way I saw them last night:
"Safe"Kellie - enjoyable and surprisingly well-done performance, especially considering the song.
Bucky - seriously, he should have done this well on Country night.
Katharine - good choice to go with the slower song. I liked it, but she always cuts the high notes short.
"Meh"Chris - no more flashing lights! I like his voice the most, but he seems to gravitate to the grungy, growly side of rock. I agree with Simon that "Innuendo" was never performed live for a reason.
Paris - Potentially the most range and consistent voice, but she just never delivers for me.
"Danger, Will Robinson; Danger!"Ace - he talks right through Ryan and the judges, and just can't sing that well. He should be gone.
Elliot - was he talking or singing? Maybe it's my TV, but his vocals just sound dead to me, and the constant vibratto sounds like the rattling of bones. I have no clue what the judges like about him.
Taylor - He's amusing to watch, and my wife loves him, but I can't recall a really clear, pleasing vocal coming from him since the top 24.

Considering the age difference, I think Paris definitely delivers over Katharine.

Re: Winners & Losers My prediction for this week's bottom three:
Paris, Elliot, Katherine. And Paris will be going home... even though Taylor deserves to be the one to go home. I doubt he'll be going home anytime soon, though.
My personal top three of the night were Kellie, Chris, and Bucky.

Are you trying to decimate my signature line?

Re: Bucky I just don't get why Bucky was booted ahead of Ace. Sheesh. He definitely didn't deserve to go home this week.
Oh well. At least Kellie and Chris are still around.

Imo, Ace or Bucky could have left. There is no difference between the two in terms of singing ability. Ace will be gone very soon.

Re: Bucky! Oh, C'mon. Bucky was a decent singer. You gotta admit, he had some style and a pretty distinctive voice (whether you like enjoyed it or not). And a cool cowboy hat!
idolfan- 04-13-2006
To be honest, I never saw anything in Bucky. He just doesn't appeal to me, and I just didn't like his voice.
I gotta admit the cowboy hat was pretty cool.
