An "Insider" Look at Episode 8
An "Insider" Look at Survivor: Fiji, Episode 8 - “I Just Got That Much More Special” by Teeuwynn Woodruff -- 04/12/2007 To no one’s surprise, including her own, Lisi was voted out of the ragged Ravu tribe. But what does Lisi say about her abilities in the game and is Mookie planning on sharing the Idol with his fellow searchers? Lisi’s Final Words Lisi says it didn’t piss her off to have her will questioned. She knows who she is and sometimes you have to know when to get off a train. She says Ravu will never get it together. “You guys are LOSERS.” She tells Dreamz and Mookie that they’re really lucky she “lost her will,” because one of them was going home otherwise. She says have a good time and she hopes the person she’s thinking of gets the million dollars. “Rock & Roll!” Then Lisi makes a bizarre chicken sound. And I didn’t just make that up. Lisi, The Day After Unlike most people, Lisi looks just the same as she did while playing the game. Lisi starts out by saying the strategizing parts of the game were “a walk in the park” for Lisi. Everyone else is just lucky she wanted to go home. She told Alex to step up as a leader and five minutes later, he did. It was genius! Lisi was asked to be in four different alliances the first four minutes into the game. Strategy and unpredictability were her favorite parts of the game. That’s what keeps her on her toes and ready. It’s like when you go out in the wilderness at night. You’re on alert, you’re on. Chaos is great for someone who wants to find out how others react. The surprise element shows you what people are really made of. All Lisi can say about her comfort level on Moto is “thank goodness for that!” That’s what kept her going. Having the bed and the rice and everything was great. Lisi says “it takes a lot to get me down, man.” She was in the middle of Fiji! She could wake up and go in the ocean. She couldn’t help but have a spring in her step. She had to have fun! What she lacked was the ability to stick it out. Her demise was not being able to stick it out. Lisi likes comfort and luxury. But she amazed herself with how well she dealt with it, but it was too much. She knew when she reached her threshold. Lisi says “change is strong.” She will be taking with her “marks.” Her look might be different. She might get more piercings. This experience has reinforced who she is. She came in to this being proud of herself and this whole experience made her feel “I just got that much more special.” Okay then. Lisi touts herself as a master strategist, claims the whole game was easy for her, she had fun all of the time, yet she couldn’t stick out this “fun time” and had to leave. Oh, and she’s an amazingly wonderful person. Ahem. Mookie’s Idol Mookie interviews that he gets back from tribal council and it’s four Moto and one old Ravu. Suddenly, Mookie realizes that this could be bad for him. Gosh, Mookie’s a quick study, isn’t he? Anyway. Mookie realizes that he has to figure something out – find a way for the group to need him. He spent the night thinking about this. He made a pact with Dreamz, Alex, and Edgardo, but he know that might not hold. So, they knew that the idol was on the island. Mookie realized that his only chance was to find the idol. The four guys agreed to look for the idol the next day. Mookie realized that he needed to get up at the “butt-crack of dawn” and look for the idol. If Mookie could find it himself, then he’d have an advantage. Mookie says, “God loves me,” and he found the idol. Edgardo offered to hold on to it, and Mookie thought, “uhuh.” This morning is the start of good things. He has the immunity idol and hopefully they’ll win a challenge. Finding that idol was better than a cheeseburger. The Idol is his chance in the game. There’s no words to say how much it means. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. He’s been playing well, but luck came in at the right moment. If Mookie didn’t have the idol, he could be the next one out. This has changed the game for him. He’s not as vulnerable as before. It’s Mookie’s good luck charm. Mookie is a bit slow on the uptake if he only just realized that allowing the former Moto to pick off the original Ravu one by one could be bad for him. But at least he’s smart enough to hold on to the idol. Alex and the other guys, however, were NOT at all smart to let Mookie in on the idol hunt. They’re nuts if they think he’s going to share it with them. Reward Challenge: So You Think You Can Meke This is the clip we saw in the episode. Both tribes dress up fancy and dance for the Fijians in a tribal dance off. Moto clearly outdances the Ravu. Earl is an excellent leader, and the rest of the tribe dances pretty well too. The Ravu look like they spent maybe ten minutes practicing right before they showed up. They’re terrible. It’s a good thing for them Simon Cowell wasn’t on the judging panel! Oh, and Lisi’s grumpy because she’s sent to Exile Island to keep the other members of her tribe from learning the clues to the location of the hidden idol – which she has already spilled to them. Village Reward As per usual, the Moto tribe enjoys this week’s reward – a village feast. They watch as the villagers perform the Meke the way it should be done. Earl interviews that he’s on top of the world right now. He wanted this one bad. He feels like a chief, like a warrior. Earl wonders if he has some Fijian blood in him. Yao-Man says that it’s an unforgettable experience to interact with these people and he’ll remember it for the rest of his life. The rest of the tribe talks among each other about how wonderful the reward is. Earl tells us that after the feast they did a ceremonial Kava drink. The drink is strong and supposed to have a “doping effect” on you. Apparently, it was quite the party. Immunity Challenge: Warrior’s Choice This is the clip we saw in the episode. Moto wins once more, firing all of their weapons with more accuracy than the beleaguered Ravu. Even Edgardo, with his vaunted bow and arrow prowess, can’t help the Ravu – and Yao-Man really proves his worth. The Moto don’t even need to use all of their members to win the challenge, with Earl hanging out with Cassandra – even though she’s the only one who officially sat out the challenge. Tribal Voting Considering all of Lisi’s whining and waffling, and the tribe’s history of voting out women, her ouster was not exactly shocking. But what did her tribemates have to say about their votes? Mookie votes for Lisi. “Since you don’t want to be here, here you go.” Alex votes for Lisi. “Sorry about this Lisi, but I need somebody who’s going to be in this for the long run. And I hope you figure everything out and I hope we can still be friends after all of this… again.” Edgardo votes for Lisi. “I’ll see you on the other side.” Lisi votes for Dreamz. “You’re a grown man. Consider a name change.” Ah, Lisi, what a charmer. Dreamz votes for Lisi. “I’ve been waiting to do this for a long time.”
