All-Stars, Finale Insider Clips
The Amazing Race: All-Stars, Finale Insider Clips – Ick by Heathyr Fields Ford -- 05/09/2007 If you’re happy that Eric & Danielle won the race, you’ll love that this week’s Insider Clips contain plenty of Eric & Danielle scenes. If you’re not happy about them winning… well, sorry. Maybe you’ll be entertained by Charla & Mirna’s blow-drying antics. Well, boo! I really hoped to see Dustin & Kandice pull it out, as they were the best all-around racers in this season, and their season, really. They did have some major blonde moments at times, but they pulled it together and made up time without really lucking into a lot of stuff. Most of the time, Eric & Danielle just bugged the heck out of me, so I must share this reader quote about them, as I about fell out of my chair laughing! “A million dollars are going to be shared between an arrogant misogynistic meathead who clearly thinks that the sun shines out of his arse, and a whiny half-witted self-obsessed little attention-grabber who can’t operate a compass without breaking down in hysterics.” I couldn’t have said it better myself! Towards the end of the race, I turned to my other half and said, “Honey, will you be okay if I NEVER, EVER, EVER put your picture on a T-shirt and wear it around?” How many of those damned things did Charla & Mirna have? I’m just not into the family-on-T-shirt thing, I guess. I wouldn’t put my kids on one either! Of course, my favorite T-shirt is from the North Channel Kilt Company and it has their logo on the front with big letters asking, “What’s up yours?” and a lovely definition of kilts on the back. I got it at the Fremont Street Fair in Seattle a few years back, and I adore it. Speaking of kilt-like attire, I seriously need to get back on the weight-loss wagon so I can have a custom-made Utilikilt made for me. Love them. Love. I’d wear their shirt on Amazing Race and hope to run into fellow lovers to help me along the way! But I digress. As if that’s anything new. Before we get into the clips, my thoughts on Mirna’s claiming that they picked those accents to not be seen as American: I call BULLSH*T, darlin’! In the cab somewhere in Africa, you were pulling major fake accents, but you told them you were from America, and tried to get the poor guy to immigrate. You just DO it. However, you read all these things, and picked up on those of us saying negative things about it, and picked the most logical-sounding explanation for it. In short, you wanted to look less ridiculous. BZZZT! Too late. You failed. That off my chest, let’s lift some kilts! No? Fine then. Let’s review some clips. Elimination Station Danielle’s numb that they won. Amber is not shocked, and she gives them kudos. Uchenna is glad to see them win knowing they were Yielded twice and so far behind everyone at one point. Jill’s happy that a Staten Island girl won. Mary is disappointed as she wishes the beauty queens won, but it is better than Charla & Mirna. Dustin & Kandice are glad to be second, but wished they would have won. Eric gives kudos to all the teams. There’s a minute 35 I’ll never see of my life again. Pit Stop Cam Nada. Zip. Zilch. Mat Chats Eric & Danielle Win the Million: And I cry inside. Phil asks how it feels to Eric, since he came so close last time. Eric’s covering his mouth and mentioning he hasn’t brushed his teeth in a day, and Phil has noticed. He laughs that he can’t even kiss Danielle. He’s totally hyped, and he’s happy that his family will be excited. Danielle’s all like looking as if she’s going to pass out from surprise. She says it feels like a dream. When she hit top three is when she finally realized she could win. This is the most likeable they’ve been all season. Oh, hey, what was WITH Jeremy? He looked like way more of a tool than I really remember him being. Of course, his letter earlier in the season reflected that as well, but yikes! Dustin & Kandice on Coming Second: Kandice says they are honored to be there, and Dustin agrees. Phil asks when they knew, and they knew from the safe on, Kandice says. Dustin remarks Eric & Danielle had about ten minutes on them, and they knew that. Phil emphasizes the SO close and asks how they find the positive side. Dustin says it’s a balance, never in the bag, anything can happen in this race. She’s happy for her friends that it happened to, and they have some great prizes, some great memories and some great friends. She chokes up as she says how that’s worth a lot to them. Aw. I am going to miss these two. They were classy all around. Fierce, within-the-rules competitors who never took it personal and always played the game but kept to the spirit of what it meant. They ENJOYED their time together, and I respect and appreciate them for it. They are two of my favorite racers because of it, and I hope they have totally awesome lives! Charla & Mirna are Still Tough: And I don’t care. Phil asks who they were running for today. Mirna cries that today is their grandmother’s birthday, so today they ran for her. Mirna is sobbing about it as she explains. Phil asks Charla how the race was for her coming back. Charla says it was challenging and how each team is so strong, so she’s honored, had a great time, and all that. Phil asks the group if they are tough or what? And of course everyone yells and claps. Sigh. Phil calls them deceptively tough. Mirna owes this to everyone in the world as people embraced them and helped them. She admits to running around like crazy people, and Charla thanks all the fans that were always believing in them. More honor. More gratitude. Phil asks what the fans will think with them standing there in third place. Mirna goes on about how tough, strong, and bright everyone is on that race. She loves each and every one of them. All of them deserve to be here, she expostulates, and she’s glad to be one of the all-stars. There were WAY better racers out there that were not chosen, so it’s not “all-stars” as in “best racers ever,” just for what it’s worth. Phil asks about Charla having kids. She’s going to try. Mirna says it was fun for her two young girls to be out there, and then she goes on and gets sobby again about her family missing them so much, and how she misses them. Ick. Episode Clips The Shady Cousins: Eric & Danielle and Dustin & Kandice come up to Charla & Mirna wondering where the hell they were on the flight. Charla’s all like, “We’re right behind you,” and Eric & Danielle say, we looked for you, you’re lying. Charla & Mirna continue to lie about it. I seem to remember them getting pissed at Rob & Amber for this sort of lie. Eric calls them awesome about the flights. Eric keeps calling them on the lie. Dustin & Kandice show up and call them on it as well, but they won’t admit it. Here it doesn’t even MATTER that they got a better flight, but they won’t admit it. This is fine, because everyone is laughing and having fun. However, Rob & Amber did it back in South America and Amber got called “bitch” for it, I believe, and she was actually fairly lighthearted about yanking Mirna’s chain for being so silly as to listen to Amber beforehand. Hypocrisy, thy name would be Mirna, except I know Ma Weaver. Charla & Mirna Do Some Money Laundering: Charla and Danielle walk around in socks because their shoes are wet. Charla jokes about finding a kid’s store for shoes. Then Mirna & Charla use their hair dryer to dry their shoes, or at least try. They are in the airport post-kayaking adventure. I hated how that really awesome, hard, skill-needed task was WASTED by having a stupid equalizer right after it. BOOOOOOOO. Oh, Charla & Mirna are blow-drying their money. Mirna lectures that they didn’t want to leave it in the car, as you never know if you need it. It’s very true. One Last Wheelie: On a straightaway, Mirna runs and pulls Charla with her wheelie shoes. Now, this was a totally awesome idea on their part! I totally loathe those sorts of shoes and the kids running around with them. I can totally get this usage for them! Of course, they are running towards the botanical garden, then Mirna stops wheeling Charla and runs after someone, begging and whining for this person to show them. Then Mirna starts pulling her again, and then the helper and Mirna each take a hand and they jog and pull Charla. Charla notes Dustin & Kandice’s bags. They reach the entrance, and their helper goes her merry way, barely tainted by the duo. Danielle Learns Her Lesson: Dustin & Kandice are reading a book. Eric’s worried about wasting money, and Danielle is like, “It’s the last leg and he’s worried about wasting money. Isn’t that sick?” Heh, it’s cute. She’s walking after Eric and saying that he’s crazier than her, and she feels good about herself. She mocks him a bit about how the girls tortured him with having bought a travel book. Heh. Eric & Danielle Fly First Class: Danielle tells us how excited she is to be in first class. Eric gets situated. I, too, love the idea of first class. Someone should send me somewhere first class. Eric leans the seat all the way back, and they are amazed at how far back it goes. She doesn’t quite get it, so he explains what lets it get that far back. Eric says it’s a good way to travel. The stewardess comes around with orange juice and champagne. She takes champagne, and Eric takes orange juice, saying he’s not high class like her. Heh. They cheer. Danielle demands some of his orange juice. Mmmm, mimosas. Eric says that even if he did win, he wouldn’t fly first class. Danielle would but only for really long trips. The Miraculous Mirna: Dustin & Kandice are talking with Eric & Danielle about how Charla & Mirna got to Hawaii before them. Eric says they’re pretty smart. They decide that Mirna rules in the airport, and they remark on how they find, like, every invisible option that everyone else begs to find and no one does. Dustin jokes that they just create commercial flights for them. Heh. Eric’s picking at his arm. I think being that close to the end is totally stressing him. They cannot figure out how Mirna does it, since they also research a lot. Danielle jokes, “It’s not an option for YOU. It’s an option for Mirna & Charla.” Heh. She’s actually less annoying in some of these clips. It’s refreshing. Dustin & Kandice Hash It Out: This is the longer version of their argument. Not that you can call it an argument; more a civilized, somewhat hurtful at times disagreement between two intelligent, loving friends who are highly stressed out. Kandice is all like, “I’m angry right now. It doesn’t erase all the good, but I told you I’m angry right now.” In other words, “I realize I might have said something bad but I am angry, but I recognize that I was angry and said something wrong. Please recognize I am angry and remember people say nasty things when angry sometimes.” Hell, she even says she’s sorry she’s overreacting right now, but she’s just angry. These two are amazing about how they argue. Seriously. First Runner Ups: Post-race, Kandice says she and Dustin were friends before in Miss America, and they are still friends and this has grown it. She says that in Hawaii they were down to the bare bones, and even today, they are physically and mentally drained. She feels they have more confidence in themselves now, and she says it’s frustrating that they didn’t pull out that last task. Love and friendship and being in each other’s lives is the important thing, but she laughs that she was crushed at the finish line, and she chokes up a bit. Dustin and her hug. Kandice says that deep down she really thought they were going to do it. She’s extremely proud, though. Dustin says that they were roommates, but competing against each other, and she talks about how Kandice greeted her with such a huge smile, and they unpacked their things together, and since then, they’ve unpacked their lives together. That is such a cool sentiment. Wow. She remarks on how competitive they are, and how important it is to have a friend you can trust like they trust each other. It’s a gift, and it’s how she views Kandice, is as a gift. Aw, that’s so very sweet. Charla & Mirna Sign Off: Post-race, Mirna is excited they relived their youth together, and to be two young girls again. She is also happy the chapter is complete, because they are married and planning on having kids soon. She owes a lot to the people around the world; they never could have made it. At least I know who to blame. Charla concurs that she wants to have kids and is looking forward to the fun and excitement of the race in her real life. She admits the great fortune of doing this great experience twice, and she appreciates every fan and person along the way who helps them. End of the Road?: Eric says that he wants to be with Danielle and progress things, but right now they’re in different cities and are not really stressing over it. They tried New York in the summer, which was too much too soon, and they appreciate each other more right now when not together every day. When you are together all the time, you bicker about little things, he says. He says that as the relationship progresses, they will figure it out. Danielle says that doing this with Eric was a double-sided thing, as she learned a lot of good things about her, and a lot of good things about him; that they do bicker a lot and are very opposite, and maybe they aren’t the best for each other. She says being a little opposite is fine, but there are a lot of things against them such as distance and personalities. She says if it works out, great, but she sort of sees it coming and saw it on the race, so she won’t stress out if it doesn’t work out. Heh. All Hail the Victors: Eric says there were times when they both felt like quitting, and they were like “whatever, let’s get out of here,” but even though they talked like that, he claims they ran everywhere, and they got lucky in equalizers and in catching up. Danielle agrees. He says going into the last leg, they were happy with their performance. When equal with people, he knows they can get to the front, and this win means a lot, since he feels he should have won his season. Last race, he really felt he and Jeremy had the last race won, but this race was more equal, so it feels really good to win. Danielle admits she didn’t last long; she was one of the worst racers, probably, and no one probably remembers her. Eric smirks that they were pretty bad. Heh. Danielle says she really didn’t know how hard it would be to get here, but she knew she was strong, and she’s not a quitter, so she realizes that she knew she could do it. She’s glad she got to do the race again. Eric brought navigating and driving and flight know-how to the race, which makes her happy, but other than that (so much of the critical stuff!), she’s really good at things that are physical.
