Advice for the Remaining 10
Survivor: Fiji – Advice for the Remaining 10 by Jeffrey Clinard -- 04/12/2007 A merge is coming, and writer Jeffrey predicts there will be a lot of jockeying for position. When the dust settles, how can players maximize their position? Who can come out on top? Read on for advice to all 10 remaining players. A merge is always an exciting time in Survivor, as all alliances scramble for enough votes to control the elimination. This time, the factions are a bit unclear, as the new Moto tribe hasn’t had to go to tribal council, while Lisi’s desire to go home meant the vote wasn’t a true reflection of tribal politics. The next vote will show how the dust settles post-merge. What the vote will test is how strong the pre-shuffle alliance of Alex, Edgardo, Stacy, and Boo is, as well as how the stray votes of Cassandra and Dreamz go. Then there is Mookie’s vote, which will serve as a test of his allegiance to whatever faction he ends up voting with. Complicating things are the two hidden immunity idols. Neither Yau-Man nor Mookie seems a likely target at tribal council, but at attempt to vote out Earl might lead Yau-Man to give him the hidden immunity idol. Mookie is far less likely to give up his prize, as his position is unclear. I liked the dance-off reward challenge. It was something different, and in some ways tested the ability of members to park their ego at the door. One reason Ravu failed is because it seemed everybody wanted to be the hero, and it lead to nobody being one. Moto wisely picked Earl as a strong leader, with everybody else playing a supporting role. If there was another test of egos, it was in the immunity challenge. Most of the Ravu tribe seemed puzzled by how Yau-Man managed to win the challenge for Moto. Face it, he used his brain, getting a running start with the spear and bracing himself in a crouch position for the bow and arrow. They were the edges he needed. Still, despite any merge, the jury phase has already begun. The players need to consider them as well as every other player in the game. What should each person be doing to win the money? It’s advice for the remaining 10. Cassandra: It’s time to declare your vote, and your best option is to sell it to Earl and the other former Ravu members. Right now, you need to ally with the stray vote of Dreamz and sell out your vote to the original Ravu tribe. You can become a force with enough time, and you might have it as you aren’t a likely target anytime soon. Start preparing for the next stage of the game. Stacy: You are about to get your old allies back, but you might not have the numbers to control the vote. However, if you lose, you probably have some time; despite Michelle painting a target on you, it’s more likely Boo, Alex, and Edgardo are priority targets. Vote with your alliance, but be prepared to figure out Plan B. Earl: Now is the time to cement the votes you’ll need to advance in the game. This means talking to Cassandra and Dreamz, as well as Mookie. If you get their votes, you are golden for now, but as a backup plan you could ask Yau-Man if you can borrow the immunity idol for a vote. As a strong leader, you are a tempting target, but with the immunity idol, a vote against you is worthless. See how things stand, and ask for the idol if you think you need it. Yau-Man: You are playing to your strengths, opting out of the reward challenge and showing everybody how it was done in the immunity challenge. Right now, you are probably safe, and your concern should be with holding enough votes to eliminate one of the original Moto members. This might mean giving up the immunity idol to Earl, but only as a last resort. Michelle: Your biggest worry isn’t being voted out, but being seen as a player. Nice morning meetings with Earl are good, but unless you are a visible force, the jury will hold your apparently passive play against you. Also, while Stacy was a good target when there were tribes, post-merge you need to focus on the stronger players outside your alliance, such as Alex and Edgardo. Boo: You have problems, as you are a big target and may not have the votes to keep yourself safe. Your options are pretty basic and you need to try and swing a vote. You might start with Dreamz, who has an erratic voting pattern and see if you can’t find a way to bring in Cassandra. If you don’t seem to have the votes, try to deflect it to Alex or Edgardo, and pull out all the stops to win immunity. Alex: You are going to have to find the votes, or else you’re a target. First, you need to solidify Mookie as a member of your alliance. If he’s in, you have five votes, which can force stalemate. Second, you need to talk to Dreamz, and see if you can talk him into voting with you, on the basis that you were all new Ravu together. If he can pull in Cassandra, you are golden for several votes. Edgardo: Like Alex, your immediate problem is finding a way to get the votes necessary to control the tribe. His advice is yours, though you should also see if you can talk Mookie into giving you the immunity idol on the theory that you can bounce the vote and then control the tribe. Dreamz: You have two paths open to you: staying with new Ravu, or making a deal with the new Moto tribe. I’d suggest the latter; the original Moto tribe was not your friend. If you bail, you should be in a good position if you start targeting the old Moto alliance immediately. You can use that time to make allies. Cassandra seems like a natural as she was an outsider in original Moto, but Mookie is a possibility as well. At some point, it will be necessary to break away from any alliance; the key is getting enough votes to control the break. Mookie: It seems crazy that Edgardo shared the knowledge of where the idol was with you, but you took advantage of the situation and now have your own immunity idol. This is a huge boost to your game, as if things go south on your pact, you have a backup plan. I would suggest you vote with the original Ravu tribe, as they seem to have the votes; without you there is a stalemate, which is a bad situation. Lisi: What went wrong? Well, you didn’t want to play anymore, and the tribe voted you out. If you had wanted to play, you’d have kept the information about the immunity idol to yourself and not talked about ending your game. As it stands, you got your wish with the vote, but in the end you still lost the game.
